The Beatles, in mid-1969 when they weren’t getting along particularly well and knew the band was wrapping up, recorded a medley of songs which comprised most of side two of their final album *Abbey Road*. Starting with “Golden Slumbers” and culminating with “The End”, it was an unequivocal goodbye and a lovely cathartic exhale of all that was.
I gather the Beatles gave varying answers over the years about whether they knew Abbey Road was going to be the last album when they were recording it, but it's impossible to listen to any McCartney song from 1969 and not think, yeah, that guy knew what the score was.
>No one was sure that the work would be the group's last, though George Harrison later recalled that "it felt as if we were reaching the end of the line.” -*Abbey Road* Wiki
Honestly, the more I learn about The Beatles, and especially after watching them in *Get Back,* it amazes me that *Abbey Road* was even made.
Seems like tensions were high enough from The White Album onward that most sane people would have called it quits and no one would have faulted them for it.
I think McCartney wrote it 68, they recorded most of in January 69 and didn't release it until a month after they broke up in 70. But, yeah, he knew what was up.
Sort of, they both began kind of at the same time, with let it be be worked on first and at the same time as songs that would end up on abbey road. Abbey road I think is more their true final statement and let it be is more a collection of songs leftover from all the last sessions as a band

I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton. The Whitney Houston cover is iconic and emotional, but the original is so much better for its sweetness and simplicity. It wasn’t overly romantic; in fact, it was written at the end of her professional relationship with Porter Wagoner, her partner and mentor.
Dimensions - Arcade Fire (From the film "Her") as you mentioned Arcade Fire I thought you would enjoy this. It's the song near the ending of the film and it just hits HARD with context, but by itself the song has a calm yet sad atmosphere, as if mourning a time that will only recall from now on.
If not I personally feel really touched and inspired by End of a life by Mori Calliope and its background but the lyrics should be more than enough to get the message through.
Here are some good ones:
'The Long and Winding Road' - The Beatles
'Farewell/Goodbye' - M83

Moving on necessarily, but allowing yourself to mourn what you're leaving behind.
I understand what you mean, sometimes life hits us in a way that you can't stay the same person you used to be. Sometimes you miss them, maybe you wish life didn't have to be like that, but all you can do is accept and move on.
