One giant scam that jacks up rates by 1000% after the first month and DEFINITELY Preys on elderly and uneducated consumers. We could blow up his instagram? 🤷♂️😎
I believe you're referring to the alternative gas suppliers. They are unregulated by the MPSC. A lot of times they end up closing down and can open up under a different name with the same people. Some of the really scummy ones will just walk over to your meter and grab the number and forget the rest of the paperwork.
If you're concerned with an elderly person in your family or you yourself falling victim to this practice, you can call your gas provider (DTE in Muskegon) and put a "lock" on your account to prevent it from being switched to an alternative provider.
