Imagine a tornado violently sucking you out of your office while you are working and suddenly you are dumped on another planet in a grassy meadow and fucking Carl from accounting with his horrible disregard for personal space sits right next to you
Fuck
His heart is in the right place. There's something really endearing about wanting people to feel the joy of a rollercoaster ride while ending their suffering. I don't know why, but I cry every time I read about him.
Going “backwards” and the loop-de-loops the whole time too (because of the transparent tubing) must’ve been pretty disorienting (it is in a siphon, it is not being “dragged” or “pulled” or “in agony”… the fish and the water are moving at the same speed).
Even if no harm is done, this is likely still a stressful process for the fish. It would've been much faster and more practical to simply use a net to move it to the pool. This was done entirely for online content, and I wouldn't be surprised if the oop wasn't just trying to clean the tank.
Edit: After doing some reading, it seems pretty likely that the fish in fact cannot breath during this process.
It was in the tube for a whopping 11 seconds..... Fish can be completely out of water for much longer than that and be fine. And this was IN water moving at (roughly) the same speed as the water, the same as if it was floating in a tank.
Sure the tube was a bit longer than it needed to be, but it's a perfectly fine way to transport fish from tank to tank. Probably a lot less stressful than being chased around by an abrasive net and then flopping around in the air before getting dumped into the next tank.
>It was in the tube for a whopping 11 seconds..... Fish can be completely out of water for much longer than that and be fine.
Stupid argument. Even if the fish is 'fine' there's no reason to make the process so stressful in the first place.
If I used the blow-dryer to dry off my dog after a bath he'd be 'fine'. But I don't do that because as his owner it is MY responsibility to make sure he is happy and well cared for. Why would I make the process harder for both of us by using something he fears? A common answer from people like oop is: internet points.
>Sure the tube was a bit longer than it needed to be, but it's a perfectly fine way to transport fish from tank to tank. Probably a lot less stressful than being chased around by an abrasive net
I'm sorry but there's absolutely no way that this is better than removing your fish with a net. An experienced fishkeeper could move the poor thing with a net in a fraction of the time it took for this person to chase the fish with the tube and suck it up. I also heavily HEAVILY doubt that oop was using the tube with the well-being of the fish in mind.
Basically fish have a muscle to move water through their gills. Sharks don't, so they need to swim forward to move water across their gills (or rest somewhere where the waters current will push water across their gills)
That might to be hard to answer. For example, sharks are fish. Basically everything that lived in the water got classified as a fish until we invented "mammals" and realized... oh, I guess dolphins aren't fish, then. Fish don't exist in much the same way that trees don't. Some things you think of as trees, like palms, are closely related to grasses. Basically, the idea of a "fish" has existed for a fraction of the time that things have needed fins to swim. "Fish" were some of the first life forms on the planet, and they have been diversifying for a lot longer than mammals. In fact, mammals are kind of a subclass of fish.
In short, I have absolutely no idea.
It’s not being dragged backwards through still water. The water surrounding it is moving in the same direction as it is, and at the same speed. Just like how when you’re in an elevator you don’t feel any wind from your acceleration, because the air around you is also moving.
If you’re watching it on mobile, you can pause and slow-mo… at the very end, you can see the fish that went through the tube was able to swim immediately after passing through… I don’t know enough about how siphons work to make it seem like not a bad experience, but the little one looked strong at the end. Would be terrifying though. I’m pretty sure it’s totally fine though.
the water surrounding it is moving at the same speed through the siphon, he isn’t being dragged backwards through the water since the water is moving with him, like the guy in a different comment said “just like how when our in a elevator you don’t feel wind from acceleration”
"Does it kill the fish?"
"No, but they do come outta there lookin at you like you owe em an explanation."
"Wow, so it doesn't hurt them at all?"
"Oh no they're totally brain damaged."
Yeah honestly I’m working on an upgrade and the ONLY thing I dread is chasing those fuckers (black mollies) with a net because they’re quick and wiley and smart and it’s so stressful for all of us. This method actually has me intrigued, but I don’t want to do it with my vacuum siphon either.
The only thing odd to the fish is what it sees through the tube, the water is moving at the same speed as it is so it isnt any differen than being in the tube with the water not moving, possibly being in a small area like that depending on the type of fish, but considering where it went to hide, I'm gonna guess that this fish is okay with being in a tight spot for a few seconds.
It's like being in a moving car but even moreso as the water distributes the forces for acceleration evenly,
Using a basic tube to siphon water is a common trick for people with fish tanks. A siphon allows the water to travel upward a short distance (the top of a fish tank), then downwards to a lower level (a bucket or other tank).
When a certain amount of water moves over the bend in the siphon, gravity pulls it down toward the lower end, creating atmospheric pressure in the bend of the siphon. So, the atmospheric pressure (read: suction) on the higher end of the siphon becomes stronger and forces the rest of the water (and whatever is in it) up and over the bend in the siphon.
Note: siphons are usually used to move large amounts of water, or to vacuum the bottom of a fish tank — not to transport fish.
Adding to your explanation that as long as the water level where you're draining to is lower that the level of the thing you're draining, you can actually go a long way upwards, at sea level a siphon can go up to 10m upwards (and then downwards) before collapsing !
isn’t forcing the fish to go backwards hurting him? considering how their gills work i don’t think they’re meant to go in that direction. cool vid tho lol
So, this is correct yet in this specific scenario it is incorrect. So, this syphon is pulling the water from one body to the next, the fish gets caught swimming against the flow, meaning that if the water is moving faster than the fish, the fish is actually having water move the correct way. Another thing is that if the fish is moving the same speed, which it most likely is, the fish is in what it would be to it, stationary water. It could be described as being in a cramped subway. It’s moving by with you with it, even though you can’t move at all.
Edit: stress is still a fair concern though
I hate when shit like this pops up. It pisses me off to no end and people come in to defend it. Even if this was safe it is still fucked up. Stress kills fish. And a siphon like this can kill fish - I know from unfortunate experience.
Their defense is always “it’s just a fish” lol. Scooping many at once with a net would’ve been more efficient and much faster. This was done in an unnecessarily complex way for views.
I don’t know when I’ve had to catch my mollies to move them it has taken me hours to grab just 5 because they’re fast and smart and wily. If the tube was much much shorter and deposited them immediately into a safe container, and not outdoors, would it still be cruel? I think my girls would be more confused than scared to be honest, whereas the net is terrifying. They’re not even afraid of my siphon vacuum (though I wouldn’t use that of course, it wouldn’t work), they TRY to swim up in it if I’m not extra careful.
I wouldn’t find it cruel that way, no. I’ve used Turkey basters to transport fry lol. The issue here is the pool being so far away & the tube being long asf and full of loop-de-loops. It’s very obviously set up to get views or to rage bait.
Wtf your a real jackhole, .let's put a sake over this jackholes head and I don't know hit him with some lumber. Yes I like that idea. You don't get to vote on it jackhole
Wait, but what's doing the sucking, shouldn't there be like a pump or something? That was just like a tube, why was the water moving in the tube? And I mean I guess the first one was a wee bit higher up, but even still felt like it was going too fast for being just a tad higher.

But once you get it moving, the water would keep flowing, so a pump at the end to start and then just keep both ends in the water and it’ll suck the fish out and deposit it at the lower end, this being the pool.

Wait .....are we not supposed to blow dry dogs after the shower? My dog loves it
Oh, there's nothing wrong with blow drying your dogs! My dog personally is just terrified of them so it'd be very stressful for him if I did it.
They can’t breathe unless they’re moving forwards right?
no thats just sharks
Really??
Basically fish have a muscle to move water through their gills. Sharks don't, so they need to swim forward to move water across their gills (or rest somewhere where the waters current will push water across their gills)

I am choosing to believe you because it makes me feel better but another 10secs of video would've been a greater relief.

The water is moving.
Came to say the same thing. He's in agony and then death

Was it only me that heard " AAAAAAAaaaaaaaAAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAAaaaaaa" as the fish went through the hose? No? Okay...
"Does it kill the fish?" "No, but they do come outta there lookin at you like you owe em an explanation." "Wow, so it doesn't hurt them at all?" "Oh no they're totally brain damaged."
Does this hurt the fish?
Fish die easily from stress and this is incredibly stressful.
Seems less stressful than getting pulled out of the water with a net. Fish in the wild deal with strong currents all the time.
Could have just used a fucking net like a normal person. There is a reason why we don't transport fish like this.
‼️This is not my video. Please don't do this with your fish
Dizzy 😵
Fun fact: he has no idea what the fuck is going on
NEMO!!!!
a lot of people don’t know fish die super easily from stress
My first thought as well. I’d think this would def stress the hell out of them.
Nemo's cousin
That seemed unnecessarily cruel

Being chased by a big net to then not being able to breathe is a lot more stressful I think

How does that tube works?
Siphon
Magnets. How do they work?
Following to eventually learn something from this haha
Using a basic tube to siphon water is a common trick for people with fish tanks. That's pretty terrible yo
This is disgusting. You don’t deserve to care for anything with a heartbeat. Instablock.

Terribly cruel, purely for your entertainment you evil petson

Fish probably fucking terrified

isn’t forcing the fish to go backwards hurting him? considering how their gills work i don’t think they’re meant to go in that direction. cool vid tho lol
I know this is late, but technically the fish is moving forwards in a backwards system, the water is just moving faster than the fish can fight back
I saw the whole thing, dude. First you were all, like, whoa! and then we were all, like, whoa! Then you were, like, whoa...

This is cruel. Plenty of easier and less stressful ways to transport an animal that can easily die from stress.
Idk why you’re getting downvoted. It is absolutely stressful. Use a net dumbass

Yeah ita with you!
I lol'd. The fish never leaves the water, as he would have when scooped up.
Leaving the water briefly is harmless, while this is not.
Why would this be harmful, though?
I explained why in my initial comment
This is how you kill a fish. Stupid
two more turns in the transparent tube under the sun and its medium cooked!
Not cool at all. You’re weird.
Regardless of wether or not this is safe for the fish (not) this is incredibly fucked up for some internet points.
