I always recommend saving before practicing why builds, that way you can reload if you don't like it! I have PC so I can't help with mods, but I thought there was a showroom with pre-built houses people designed. I think you have to buy the catalogs from heidi.

ZeroHawk47

There are a few good ones that are available but the ones that ppl share on here you need to import them and do a bunch of stuff to make it work in your game

I don't know if there are any mods or anything out there, but my poor house looks like Frankenhouse and I feel like I'm wasting so much money. Building the house and placing objects are my only real peeves about the game.

pheebeep

The game could really use some kind of practice build mode.

villannn27

Can't you build it in pieces? I looked at other people's workshop pics and drew a rough plan of what I wanted. Then I added rooms as I could afford them. I started by adding a bedroom and it wasn't expensive to add a single room.

I don't believe you can mod the switch game, and I don't think there are cheats for it. However, one thing to know is that if you "delete" parts of your house - aka you build a floor you don't like - you get all the money back, so you can consider it all practice until you get what you like since removing added parts gets you everything back.

LemonthymeTime

I have no idea about switches but on PC there is one with WeMod. Sorry I can't help beyond that! I don't think there's an inbuilt dev console type thing like with Sims.

ScoobyDo_Me

Yesss, I'm playing on the switch and have the same problem. It's so frustrating
