Biggest reason is that the only numbers displayed on the voting page is offensive and the number people by default gravitate to is avg. Marte is hitting well above average, but isn't hitting 330 or whatever. He's also playing gold glove defense which you actually have to watch or go deeper into stats. So casual voters or those who only know AL teams will just auto fill the names they know. Which gets to point two, Ketel is getting zero media attention, despite being the NLCS MVP and setting a historic post season record and this season being a legitimate MVP candidate.
