Same reason as a fat chunk of all other workplace accidents, they've been doing it for just long enough to get too comfortable. You can see it in the first guy a bit too. When he bends over, he looks away from the hand he's placing near the hand confiscator 9000 before it makes contact. You won't catch the new guy putting his hand near it like that because he's still afraid. Won't catch the guy with 20 years of experience that watched someone lose a hand doing it either, because he's afraid again.
He definitely was, yeah. I'm not familiar with that machine, but it almost looked like the log was angled up on the right side and he tried to straighten it out with his hand. That's 90% of the reason I come by this sub from time to time, to remind myself not to get so into the usual routines that common sense and diligence go out the window. I did it once at work a few years ago and lucked out that my coworker saw it happen, and stayed calm enough to yell for the rest of the crew to come save my ass. Never again.
Yes but that experience will be past down on the genetic level. His offspring will be just a tiny bit more diligent. Diligent enough to luck out like he did just losing his hand and not getting sucked into the machine like a lot of people do? We'll see I suppose.
> that experience will be past down on the genetic level.
That's not how genes work. That's [Lamarckian evolution](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamarckism) not [Darwinian evolution](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwinism).
Of course, you're completely correct. I was thinking more along the lines of the systematic effect of the physical trauma and how that might be affecting future gene expression.
Non-genetic inheritance is not to be sneezed at. Have you read the cherry blossom trauma experiment in mice? The inheritance of triggers and the potential of un-learning?
I'm willing to admit that we lack large scale studies in higher mammals, but there's no reason to assume we lack the same function considering the complexity of genetic control.
My grandpa was a machinist and he had some STORIES. One guy fell asleep or something and popped his eye out. Damn it’s been 30 years since I remembered that story.
Yeah it does. Used to drink coffee all day at work because that happens fast. Shock is merciful when a guy grabs his missing part like it can be fixed. Even worse is when you get ordered to find all the parts and put the hamburger and bone in a shop rag.
dude literally fed his finger into it!
I feel like this was either mental illness or cognitive developmental issues with how they just FED their finger into it!
Usually I let this kind of stuff go but you just saw it strip the bark off a tree in seconds and then shape into a perfectly round post and that doesn't suggest to you in any way that it *might* harm your skin or fingers or hand? Really??
Of course if you ask my 12 year old me I thought it wouldn't pull my hand like that. In my mind I could just place my finger and it would roll and gave my finger some friction and that's it.
These guys are the reason why men get paid to stand around and do "nothing." Literally just standing there waiting to yell at someone for trying to do this.
Just another Tuesday in China ...
I work as an industrial engineer and travel to China frequently auditing lines and products...the first few trips I got sore muscles from head shaking...now it's just a deep breath 🙈

You totally missed the point. If you never wear shoes, you will have thick soles. Same goes for animals. However, put shoes on their feet/paws for years and watch what happens to them walk when they are taken off. They are sensitive again.
Shout out to Spider-Man swooping in at the end and dropping his nuts on top of the still-spinning machine that just ripped a guy's hand off then standing inside it.
I agree with all the people that are talking mad shit about how stupid ppl are with machines like this... but I'm also a master machinist. We (people that work with these machines daily) get complacent. I see these videos and literally think "oh yeah I've done some dumb shit like that before" 🤷♂️ it happens. That being said... dudes an idiot. Don't put your fingers anywhere you wouldn't put your dick.

Doing the same thing does make people forget to be carefull but get a close call and sometimes you can go home with all orignal parts. It's surreal to see in front of you. Why his coworkers didn't torniquet the arm and ran off to call 911 instead blows my mind.
If you click the speaker on the top right you can hear some people speaking in a foreign language. Any idea where this happened? I'm bad at recognizing languages.
Also, you can hear the guy scream as his hand gets caught in.
Finally a video in which the people around actually have access to a panic button kind of thing that immediately shut that thing down. The amount of times I've seen people around the accident absolutely not knowing what to do while something gruesome happens is very scary. Seems like a constant risk to workers health integrity
PPE is for the dumbest of the dumb. Common sense only exists in the 140+ IQ population. Even then there are those that still piss on and electric fence. 🙄
Why would you put your hand in there
Same reason as a fat chunk of all other workplace accidents, they've been doing it for just long enough to get too comfortable. You can see it in the first guy a bit too. When he bends over, he looks away from the hand he's placing near the hand confiscator 9000 before it makes contact. Won't catch the guy with 20 years of experience that watched someone lose a hand doing it either, because he's afraid again.
It looks like second guy was also distracted and not paying attention. He looked like he was watching what his coworker was doing on the truck.
Hand confiscator 9000 😭 got me
Confiscator 9000 made my entire day.
natural selection? Those who cannot pay attention to present potential danger are more likely to die. I don’t know.
No, no, you *do* know.
He didn't die and he can still reproduce no natural selection he's still in the gene pool.
Yes but that experience will be past down on the genetic level. His offspring will be just a tiny bit more diligent. Diligent enough to luck out like he did just losing his hand and not getting sucked into the machine like a lot of people do? We'll see I suppose.

True, but you need to consider epigenetics.
No, there is no mechanism for *learned experiences* to be passed down epigenetically.
Of course, you're completely correct. I was thinking more along the lines of the systematic effect of the physical trauma and how that might be affecting future gene expression.
> and how that might be affecting future gene expression. *It won't.*

Intrusive thoughts
To feel it. To REALLY FEEL IT!
He ain't feeling shit now
I gotta hand it to ya, I think this answers everything. Even why some of them are barefoot!
[удалено]
No politics or politically unrelated commentary.
As a machinist, stuff like this scares the absolute shit out of me.
getting your hand snatched, or having a coworker this stupid?
Both! I've worked with a few guys that were that stupid. Had to tackle one because he reached into a machine while it was running.
As another machinist, the former. If the latter bothered us, we wouldn’t be machinists.
My grandpa was a machinist and he had some STORIES. One guy fell asleep or something and popped his eye out. Damn it’s been 30 years since I remembered that story.
How? Do tell please
How? Do tell please
Dude fell asleep a lot, fell asleep on a machine right on his eye. Lol story from my gramps so I don’t know how it actually went down.
So narcoleptic dude headbutted a spike
I read that as "masochist" at first. Really confused me.
Dude same I was like wtf
Yeah it does. Used to drink coffee all day at work because that happens fast. Shock is merciful when a guy grabs his missing part like it can be fixed. Even worse is when you get ordered to find all the parts and put the hamburger and bone in a shop rag.
I'm guessing you've probably seen The Russian Lathe video?
That would be the one.
That was my first foray into this genre. Absolutely makes me way more careful, and I'm a pretty careful person.
Well that was fucking stupid of him...
I like to feel the breeze of the limb chopping blades on my fingers too.
I prefer the breeze on my balls after a long day's work, but to each their own. I just know to keep them away from spinning sharp things.
this is why I wear assless welders chaps. assless
dude literally fed his finger into it! I feel like this was either mental illness or cognitive developmental issues with how they just FED their finger into it!
"cognitive developmental issues"
This should be played in every school. My stupid childhood self would do that just because I didn't know it was dangerous.
Fair. I'll allow it. (Just playing)
HOW can you not know, really?
HOW can you not know, really?
These guys are the reason why men get paid to stand around and do "nothing." Literally just standing there waiting to yell at someone for trying to do this.
Yup. Just yelled at a guy 40 minutes ago who was adamant about getting murdered inside a robotic induction cell.
With no key, no vest, no access request or authorization, or apparently any survival instincts.
I was furious/dumbfounded. He lived. (Probably will get promoted as well.)
Just another Tuesday in China ... I work as an industrial engineer and travel to China frequently auditing lines and products...the first few trips I got sore muscles from head shaking...now it's just a deep breath 🙈
Lol that was good
Sore muscles from head shaking 😆
"Do you see that giant metal arm flying around right about head height?"
Bro at the end put half his leg in the SAME MACHINE?? Someone call OSHA
The difference is now they’ve made sure it’s off so they can help him
Still stupid.
Yeah there’s no way I’m getting inside the machine that just chewed my friends hand unless it’s unplugged
I guess?? But just stupid on top of stupid
Dumbest one today. Gotta hand it to him

OSHA? What ocean?
Specific Ocean?
Someone should have mentioned to him thats dangerous.
If dude wanted to feel wood going through his hands he could have done something else...
Never wear gloves with spinning machines.
Clothes and spinning machines do not go well together
Actually, they go great together. They’re almost inseparable.
Sees man looses hand. Immediately jumps on the machine that is still spinning.
Next man needs to tighten up
Completely separating himself from the moving parts and trying to help. What's your point ?
I know he's trying to help but jumping on it and squating on the top of the spinning things is just dumb.
At least the machine was turned off beforehand
\*loses
He looked like he got TOO comfortable and careless around that machine
Maybe don't stick your hand in the blade for no reason.
That’s a lot of splinters 🥴
Thanks for posting the full video
Too bad it wasn’t a log square machine, he might have kept it.
Why are they barefoot too. Craziness all round.
What do you think will happen to a dog or cat if you put shoes on them every day? Same thing with humans.
Most humans wear shoes everyday no problem.
You totally missed the point. If you never wear shoes, you will have thick soles. Same goes for animals. However, put shoes on their feet/paws for years and watch what happens to them walk when they are taken off. They are sensitive again.
Your point is a complete non-sequitur they should be wearing shoes whether their soles are sensitive of not.
Ya, okay. 🙄
Dummy. At least there was a dude there who reacted quickly. Smh
*The revenge of the trees*
you can clearly see the first dude is careful, while the second probably licks windows.
Commentator started playing his mixtape
And then the other guy puts his LEG inside it???
Intrusive thoughts win.
Ohsha ohsha ohsha! My hand!
The call of the void
That hurt…the flailing
Well that will make fpr a difficult wank.
It’s appalling how many people are so careless around machines.
Why did he touch it
Next time use a stick, but luckily he's got 2 of them. Won't be making that mistake again.
I'm bored. Let's poke my hand on a grinder
Finally the full video thank you, others redditors lack of attention needed to cut this after one second the hand it’s trapped.
Shout out to Spider-Man swooping in at the end and dropping his nuts on top of the still-spinning machine that just ripped a guy's hand off then standing inside it.
Sub 70 iq tendencies
Reincarnated as a fool, I am destined to embark on a journey and defeat natural selection.
some accidents are really accidents, like misfortune or distraction or whatever, but this is completely deserved result of immense stupidity.
Yeeeesh.... glad it was just his hand..and also WHYYY
Well...not as bad as vids of lathe fails ☠️☠️
Imagine the amount of splinters
Ppl get to comfortable around machines.
anyone got aftermath pics?
Bro the vietnamese voiceover is talking about a job and salaries wtf haha
why the hell would you have to put your hand there.
That's what she said
Sometimes you brain stops working
Hypnotic. 😏
Complacency at its finest. Feel sorry for him but... that was dumb as hell.
Glad the co worker with no gloves or shoes was there to help🙄
Darwin award winner for sure!
I agree with all the people that are talking mad shit about how stupid ppl are with machines like this... but I'm also a master machinist. We (people that work with these machines daily) get complacent. I see these videos and literally think "oh yeah I've done some dumb shit like that before" 🤷♂️ it happens. I like that the other guy rushed and disabled the machine so fast.
Some body give the bloke a hand
I’m more concerned with the barefoot guy, he might get a splinter
And then although the machine being off that guy then decides to squat between it
"Hmm this log probably feels nice on my fingertips while it's spinning and getting it's bark peeled off"
Ya, but totally worth it!
Why doesn’t he put another hand in there, too?
There are 62 safety hazards in that video - can you find them all?
You could count them all on ONE hand
very funny! :)
🤣
Shouldn't it be pretty easy to find?
*OSHA has entered the chat*
When the intrusive thoughts win....
I was more astonished at his barefooted co-workers. The tiniest splinter has me in agony.
They are used to not wearing anything on their feet. Thick soles.
Remove the warning labels if any and watch all the problems sort them selves out
"hm... what if i touch it? AAAAAHH-" (i hope he's okay though :) )
Why he put his hand innthere .the log was already inside .turning.

Natural selection. 🤣
He didn't die.
Obviously. 🧐
It's not natural selection unless he dies.
Again... Duh...
So then why did you call it natural selection if you know it's not natural selection?
Doing the same thing does make people forget to be carefull but get a close call and sometimes you can go home with all orignal parts. It's surreal to see in front of you. Why his coworkers didn't torniquet the arm and ran off to call 911 instead blows my mind.
How could someone be such a dumb*ss
You know he's stupid because his hat is on backwards.
Prophetic reply. Humor. Chuckle. Pick something. 🥴
If you click the speaker on the top right you can hear some people speaking in a foreign language. Any idea where this happened? I'm bad at recognizing languages. Also, you can hear the guy scream as his hand gets caught in.
This is why it’s always a good idea to let your workers have a break. He seems out of it to me, maybe exhausted.
Stupidity is a gift
Finally a video in which the people around actually have access to a panic button kind of thing that immediately shut that thing down. The amount of times I've seen people around the accident absolutely not knowing what to do while something gruesome happens is very scary. Seems like a constant risk to workers health integrity
see, these jobs are the ones robots need to be doing.
Why just why
And all I'm thinking about is the potential crazy amount of splinters on the 3rd guys' bare feet 🫠
Right hahaha he jumped up there like Spider-Man 😂
I'm sorry to be just a bit off topic here, but what exactly is this machine doing???
What the fuck was his goal by reaching in there exactly?
Not the Fap hand
Dude strolled up and acted the he owned the machine.
Natural Selection
bro let his thoughts win
Rule No.1 No gloves on rotating machines
Don't scream now mf what did you expect 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
the lack of ppe in this video makes it hurt to watch on top of the fact he knew that was wrong and did it anyway 😟
PPE is for the dumbest of the dumb. Common sense only exists in the 140+ IQ population. Even then there are those that still piss on and electric fence. 🙄
i feel like common sense should be taught in schools because common sense is becoming less common 🤣
