I was at the game. I think NCC didn’t take advantage and overload; Coffey plays like she’s 2-3 people covering and had a great game, and Soph wanted a revenge goal. Super fun, competitive, energetic game live.
I had and sold my ticket due to smoke (recovering from a serious surgery). But Paramount- went offline just as Hubly tackled the NC player. It didn’t come back until the 2nd half so I missed a lot. But … good for you for seeing it live. Both teams were missing some of their starters.
The only misses being a player down were a few errant passes in transition down the sides where there should have been someone but resulted in a turnover or contested ball. Sam was everywhere and holding down the middle
Everybody on the Thorns stepped up and had fantastic work rates. Coffey, Weaver, and Moultrie all had great games. And of course, the MVP comes on and 20 seconds later, she gets a goal.
Also great tactical decision by Thorns gaffer Mike Norris to take Sinclair off after the Hubly red. Thorns needed legs from that point and unfortunately that’s just not Sinclair’s strong-suit at this point in her career.
NC will rue that one. They had a few opportunities to score after the red but none were taken. Lussi’s fk goal was a beaut, though.
What a fantastic game that was.
That was a really strong and somewhat courageous decision to make. I love Sinc, but it's good for the team and her health that we have a coach that recognizes her limits and will make a sub as soon as needed. She's invaluable as a leader on and off the pitch, fortunately/unfortunately it had to be off the pitch last night.
We can do anything when she is involved. #BAONPDX #PTFC

Not including the USWNT.
By all the downvotes, truth hurts. She would agree. Vlatko played her in the wrong position 2/3 of the time though. I’m a big fan of Smith.
Should she have nailed some of those missed opportunities? Of course. But we all know that offense needed more time playing together to figure it out and vlatko was not helping. She played a hell of amount of minutes and it showed by the end. There's no reason to be an edgelord here.

The fact that Coffey barely got looked at under Vlatko is criminal

When an opportunity presents itself and you fail to capitalize, there's really no one to blame except for yourself. GG Portland.
I’m a Thorns fan.
Why is this getting downvoted?
Guess cus it's irrelevant to the previous comment? They're talking about courage not capitalizing

Weaver had an incredible game
Moultrie to Betfort and her heel first touch to a strike to even things up. Absolutely mental stuff there too!

Almost as if she was forced to play out of position or something...
It turns out if you start your best player in her best position, good things happen. Lessons for the USWNT.
Still cheesing from last night. Truly grateful to live in Soccer City USA. Go Thorns!
