I love the idea of this sub. I'm planning on moving back to NYC next year.

My hubs and I are making plans to move back too. However I just got a promotion at work lol so Iโ€™m giving it 18 more months before we โœŒ๐Ÿฟ and head back to NYC. We canโ€™t wait ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿฅฐ

Congrats on the promotion!

nuronuro

Why did you leave? Thought about leaving too but Iโ€™m not going anywhere lol

My move was strategic. I am a self-taught/bootcamp-taught software engineer and when I graduated I knew I'd face a lot of competition for junior engineer jobs. So I decided on the strategy of moving to a second-tier city (Minneapolis) with a lower cost of living to establish my career and then move back when I was more financially secure and established. Basically be a big fish in a little pond for a while. I'm now hitting a bit of a ceiling in terms of opportunities which translates into a lower salary than I could be getting. The coasts are really where most of the opportunities are, especially California but I'd rather be closer to family in NY.

This is smart and what I did. Self taught engineer who moved to Ohio a few years ago, then Seattle and came back to NYC last year.
