Catered Chinese food lunch Monday. Catered hot American breakfast Tuesday. Thank you cart traveling in school all day with tons of snacks today. Wellness kit tomorrow. Ice cream Friday.
Yall got something? We got an email from the principal that was like "good job guys, don't forget teaching doesn't end at 225, that's when it starts, so go call some parents."
Ok. Sure. But.... for support staff like paras, counselors, and ooc staff. These tokens mean a lot because most of the admin support is teacher focused.
People crave validation and, in many cases, it makes them more productive.
Is tough to watch other schools get showered in tokens when we get nothing.
Speech therapists don't really. Technically there's one day in May but I've never been at a school when it was acknowledged. I still have to have a certification that literally says I'm a teacher (TSSLD) and we're left out each year. We get called "speech teachers" all the time too.Ā
Ā The teachers in my special ed school are getting catered lunch, gift bags, and and ice cream party from admin. My dept supervisor sent an email titled "gentle reminder" saying we're not allowed to go.Ā
I have a friend who works at a school where two organizations are housed in the same building. One org gave nothing while the other org got ALL THE THINGS. And the other school had to just watch. Not the same but I feel for you. It was that story that inspired this post.
The crazy part is I'm dying to know how the school is affording all these things. Its not in a good neighborhood. It does not have a strong PTA. So theres limits on fundraising for these things but so far the giveaways have to have totaled 30-40K by now.
Super cute flower shaped highlighters with words of affirmationā¦youāre appreciated, inspiring, dedicated, etc. Itās adorable and useful. When she handed it to me, she said ācause youāre the highlight of the schoolā (granted she said it to every teacher, but it was very sweet).Ā
Edit: we also got catered food and she made her specialty, which was delicious. And other little gifts each day.Ā
There was seltzer in the office when I left the other day but it was warm and I didnāt see anything about it having to do with teacher appreciation week
A "BBQ" lunch, that we didn't even know was happening until 4th period. It was scheduled for 7th, but there was nothing to eat or drink until middle of 8th. One tray of (off brand) hot dogs.
We have an AP EMERITUS at our school. Sort of District 75 famous. They are doing a campfire theme for teacher appreciation. The first day was water and juice all done up. Yesterday was a bag of candy. Today was a bag of make your own smores and pop tarts. I donāt take anything, but it looked cool. Inspirational messages. Etc.
I have 5 years and 10 months left. Just give me service credit
We have various printers and only 1 works and even then tentatively- so if they had gotten these printers fixed- Iād be more content than with the stupid gross donuts they keep putting out
Working printers so I can do my job!
I teach in Jersey now but itās pretty much the same as it was at my old school. PTA organizes a breakfast and a lunch, got a cookie from the union (better than the penny I got from UFT last year i think?!) and nothing at all from admin.
Catered food two days in a row and a wellness package filled with stress relief tools so far.

Wow traveling snack cart!? Very good idea.
Agreed. Simple but endearing. Cost effective as well.
Omg where do you work?
Lol well I don't want to doxx myself.
With the traveling snack cart, did they knock and interrupt class or did they come around at certain convenient times? Just curious how it worked!
No no. Lol. They would never interrupt classes. They went by people's offices, teacher's cafeteria, in the hallway to teachers who were off, etc.
Ohhh, yes, duh. Makes more sense š
Um, we got a reusable water bottle and stickers. Plus a boat load of coverages due to AP testing!

This is the funniest shit I have ever heard
My principal copied and pasted a poem he found on the internet and hasn't acknowledged it otherwise.
Iād rather be consistently supported by administration than receive a few tokens during one month in May.

These people deserve higher pay and support too. I think we all have enough school branded pens by now.
Not to be a dick but itās teacher appreciation week. These other professions have their own at different times.

For sure. But they didn't get anything then either.

We have various printers and only 1 works and even then tentatively- so if they had gotten these printers fixed- Iād be more content than with the stupid gross donuts they keep putting out Working printers so I can do my job!

Pretzels and chips lol. Legit went all out.
