You are opening an Apple Store. It will be the same as all the other Apple stores. I mean we all know the market. You’re going to carry all of the same stuff that everyone else does… these posts are tedious and kinda silly. Every dispensary has 98% same product with maybe a ~$5 differential in price. In my experience the city dispos are- bottom line- all the same with different window dressing. Strain stars and happy days each have like 3 product lines the other doesn’t carry. It’s all the same. Like an apple stor.

Smorgasbord42

Of the brands you have tried which ones did you like? Which ones did you not like?

jayBeeds

It doesn’t matter. Are you not going to carry mfny carts because they are weak af? Are you going to bypass electraleaf because of all the mold? Are you going to keep kings road carts off of your shelves because many say they leak? No, you are going to carry the same as everyone else because that’s all that is available.

Smorgasbord42

I am a New Yorker, but spent 10 years in Humboldt and 2 in Oregon. I pride myself in knowing healthy plants and clean extracts. Been in the industry for a good chunk of time and don’t want to sell moldy weed or bullshit, hence this post. A lot of people are about clout but I am strongly behind the idea of clean good products. Trying to find the hidden gems people have found and what you all think of the current state of this industry. Thank you for your feedback.

jayBeeds

This isn’t Humboldt or Oregon. There aren’t hidden gems with licenses rolling around. Hence why everyone has the same.

Aggressive-Split-655

This is the problem with the entire market. I get you are looking to see what people like, but in reality, it's the same 5-6 big players and a few outdoor farms selling the same garbage products for way too much money. I haven't had anything in NY recently that I thought was actually good and worth the money. It's all quantity over quality here, which is because the whole market is nothing but big mso corps doing the bare minimum and charging the absolute maximum. The problem is there are no craft growers or small operators that care about growing great quality clean flower. The license fees, market players and the amount of investment money you need to be profitable here in NY makes it so that higher quality but smaller craft growers can't possibly exist. I don't really know much about the concentrate scene here, because we just started getting some concentrates and I'm a flower guy personally.

Smorgasbord42

Once indoor becomes more available to grow commercially in NY the game will change until than, look for the cleanest outdoor with the lowest mold.

whoishattorihanzo

More live rosin please; cartridge modality. Currently relying on trips to SoCal for my personal supply stash. Olio is too expensive for it to be worth it imo but that’s the best we have.

Cold_Wing1105

This dude is trippin about MFNY, get all there products there fire asf😂 those bitches will sell out quick

benalexe

What is better than MFNY

jayBeeds

Rythm

Glittering_Event_309

in MA their shatter carts are nice

Prudent_Library1514

I agree with Jay. Everything is pretty much 2nd compared to the GTI brands. It’s because they are allowed to use indoor. Rhythm and &shine (basically only indoor grown).

jayBeeds

If you’re trying to do some grassroots community outreach to promote your new business there are more effective ways than asking questions with pointless answers.

LonelyEfficiency1342

Absolutely true, that's why I don't shop ny rec just BM and gray

jayBeeds

I prefer my stuff to be tested officially. Heard it’s kind of wonky out there

CannaCar

Ravens View Genetics and Jack Bear Farms, both upstate-based brands that are small, craft, and don't give in to the "bag appeal, high thc" bs that most other brands push

Smorgasbord42

Thank you this is what I’m loooking for

Illustrious-Fun-4036

Yea upstate NY seems to actually have some decent stuff out here, just have to look. Rolling Greens jarred bud is pretty consistent. Sherbinski is a cool brand I just haven’t been able to get my hands on them in NY dispensaries. Matter is also great. I hear good things about ravens Genetics and will be trying them soon.

DMteatime

Second RV, I got a sampler of pre-rolls from an expo and they were extremely nice, especially if I were considering dailies

fookiebookie12

Both those brands are trash compared to a lot I’ve seen just a heads up

TheTinzzman

Ecstatic to see the love for Jack Bear farms. The owner is a cool ass dude, does everything himself. His 8ths are the cheapest I have seen on the NY market and he offers really cheap pre-rolls. It's outdoor, so the comp of some peoples flower to this guys isn't much different and sometimes worse yet I just tell people he knows how to price his stuff when they come in.

CannaCar

I got Blurrberry Pie and Moon Mist eighths from Jack Bear and I was extremely satisfied with both! I go to them for indicas and Ravens View Genetics for sativas and edibles!

TheTinzzman

Check out RVG's Orange Cream Pop flower if you can find it. Found it to be an enjoyable smoke. They are also a fantastic brand.

pienaber

big big second to Jack Bear

et_tu_brute187

Keep hearing good things about Ravens View.. definitely looking forward to trying them next!

Wffixups

Matter, Rythm, LivWell, Rolling Green, Hepworth, Dank have been my go to flower brands. I’m also a fan of Critical and MFNY concentrates. Where in Westchester are you guys opening? I’d love to stop by this summer.

Smorgasbord42

Peekskill

cmcnyc

Thoughts on Flamer?

Impressive-Tie3506

First time getting dispo, I tried mfny, electraleaf, urban extracts and flamer, flamer was the least strong and tasted horrible. I personally don't like their weed.

Wffixups

Haven’t heard of them before

Festae13

I'm tired of fruit and cake. Find some absolutely rancid strains. Of course, if you open in the city, nevermind, you'll never see me

Smorgasbord42

Northern Westchester

Festae13

Yeah. Sorry.. I avoid high traffic areas and going anywhere near the city is a no. I will still say that there are lots of people looking for gassy chem skunk funk.. we're getting overrun with fruit strains

DMteatime

I'd second this, get some truly cheesy stank and I'd even make the trip

Ziggy_Sarsdust

My last grow had a few of both, some super sweet plants, and some garbage terp plants. Hunting is the best of both worlds!

Festae13

Indeed, i have a stable of genetics currently

Smorgasbord42

Check out Archive Seed Bank good prices on some serious terps.

Sick_NowWhat

I agree. I love some fruity bud but the market needs more skunk, piss, and shit.

Festae13

Gary satan smelled like baby poop a dog ate and threw up. Sounds terrible, but it kicked my ass

Strain420ish

Dank, Animal House, Hudson Cannabis Dimes and Heady Tree have been top notch quality. Packwoods Uptown Haze - total disappointment

Consistent_Pen_9099

Hudson dimes are only worth $10.00 and like someone else said every other legal outdoor grown crappy weed is all sold at the same stores. i shop med and quality and reliable black market shops so called legal weed in nys is too expensive for outdoor dirt

Frosty_Importance886

Any reliable black market shops you recommend?

Consistent_Pen_9099

Higher empire that’s it

Difficult-Year4653

Ithaca Organics, white runtz is the best stain I have had

et_tu_brute187

Had some great products from IO as well! Definitely a great company!

Professional_Sun_340

Someone should open up a dispensary in Yonkers 👀

Smorgasbord42

Two should be opening there soon, they have been staffing on indeed.

rggggb

Anything opening in Rockland you know of?

Smorgasbord42

I know pound ridge just got one

gracefultornado

Treehouse is over in Nyack

rggggb

Word thanks for the heads up! I ordered some vapes from them last week. Great service. You got any recs for their flower by chance I’m not familiar with the NY flower brands

[deleted]

One Opened yesterday called the plant

J_carey99

Anything flower related GTI (RYTHM) so far has been the best bud I’ve come across. Magnitude vapes from Verilife/Pharmacann are hands down the best for the price point. Curaleaf nanobites does a good job finding a place in the gummy market by offering strain specific gummies at a good price. GTI concentrate.

Consistent_Pen_9099

If your buying a lot of rythm or any MSO brand do yourself and your wallet a favor and get a medical card rythm eights are alot cheaper

et_tu_brute187

Rhythm has never disappointed ! I would put Rolling Green and Rec Roots as my top tier NY based brands. Flower is top quality and prerolls are made from flower, not the bs shake joints. Wish theyd both come out with a vape line... would definitely be a regular consumer.

[deleted]

You’ll wanna stock Flower: Dank and plat reserve Rolling green Doobie labs Rythm Prerolls Tical Blotter Luci’s Rolling green Mfny Vape disposable Ayrloom Olio Cookies Carts Mfny Ny honey Edibles Mfny Offhours Next extracts Ny finca Smokiez Concentrates Mfny Luci Where’s my consulting fee? I’m missing a bunch in each category but that should get you thru the first two months

et_tu_brute187

Definitely agree with the flower and preroll reccs! I would add Rec Roots and Rolling Greens to that list for flower / prerolls. Heard good things about House of Sacci, looking to try them out as well.

[deleted]

House of Sacci Kief is nice but the flower isn’t great. The house party packs are cool and a decent deal

et_tu_brute187

Thanks for this heads up!

Imaginary-Mission686

For bud, I really like Matter, Livwell, Dank, and Rythym. I tried Raven View Genetics today, and it was pretty good. Despite what others have said, I happen to like the MFNY carts. Also, I haven't tried them myself yet, but I've heard good things about New York Honey cartridges. I am not a fan of Electraleaf. It gave me a terrible headache, and then when I checked the COA, the mold count was crazy high. Never again. Edit to also say Jaunty is the absolute worst.

et_tu_brute187

Dank was solid, but did not have great experience with Livwell products, although definitely priced reasonably. I really liked Ravens View flower I had. Like mentioned, Rhythm is a great brand and never disappoints. I would also highly recommend Rec Roots and Rolling Green for flower and prerolls. Few buddies have also hyped up House of Sacci, so looking forward to giving them a try as well.

Smorgasbord42

Thank you for this.

Imaginary-Mission686

You're welcome. Best of luck in your ventures!

burritostrikesback

Off Hours edibles has almost never disappointed me. MFNY is also good

et_tu_brute187

Off Hours gummies are crazy! Better tasting gummy than anything from the major (general) candy companies for real! They can be dangerous just bc I could eat them all day long.

Puzzleheaded_Crab453

New strains. We need good new flower. The rest of the stuff will follow. Chemdawg, zkittles, lucky charms, animal face, gmo, Mac, Durban poison, trainwreck, Jack etc.

Call0fDoodie92

> New strains. We need good new flower. Chemdawg, Durban, Trainwreck, Jack Herer are all real old and just as good or better than most modern strains. The modern market for commercial strains has kinda flattened the genetic base. Everything is an outcross and almost everything is just a watered-down OG Kush curated for yield and flowering time instead of the traits smokers actually want. I think NY needs to start getting high quality, hand grown indoor flower from heirloom strains.

Puzzleheaded_Crab453

I meant new because I don’t see those in NY. I know those are old, I didn’t mean new as in modern genetics, my bad. It would be interesting if some farms started playing with landraces and made some “new” crosses. I just remember getting bored with the same dozen strains everywhere out west. Kinda seeing a similar issue here. I just want to see more variety and approaching that choice from more of an objective standpoint, rather than what the hype strain is for the month.

Call0fDoodie92

> I just remember getting bored with the same dozen strains everywhere out west. I totally agree. 12 interesting strains is probably more than enough but right now if you grab 12 different strains from the legal dispo, 9 of them are going to be generic Gelato/OG strains selected for yield and flower time with no interesting traits.

Puzzleheaded_Crab453

Yep, I think NY will do very well once they finally sort out all the government bullshit. There’s some amazing growers in the state, just gotta let em work lol

Smorgasbord42

Genetics mean nothing if the grow is butchered. Trying to find out who has gotten better at growing in this climate.

AbZabUMyFriend

Here's the thing: that's literally your job. As consumers, we expect store owners to have done their own research. We expect store owners to know who is growing the good shit and stock it. We expect y'all to actually have tried the stuff you put on your selves and verified it's worth buying with our hard earned money. Like, who do YOU think is putting out the good stuff and the bad stuff? Let the masses know.

Smorgasbord42

We haven’t opened and are preparing a menu and I was just asking because I have a biased opinion being that I worked with MFNY. The purpose of this post is to get a baseline as to what consumers like and disliked compared to our own opinions as people who run the shop. I am not basing all decisions on people’s opinions but I am always willing to learn more from others experiences.

AbZabUMyFriend

MFNY is one of the only NYS brands I fuck with at this point, so even better. Who else is putting out good stuff?

Smorgasbord42

That is exactly my question as well as products you didn’t like

AbZabUMyFriend

Right, but I'm asking YOU what brands you think are putting out good stuff?

Smorgasbord42

MFNY, CannaCure farms, Ithaca organics, after hours, eureka. Looking at all demographics of the community and what strains are out when we open. I plan on looking at COAs and judging flower by the entourage effect of the terpenes compared to the TAC. As runs get done and people move away from all having Humboldt Seed Company genetics and we start seeing more strains it’s really hard to tell.

AbZabUMyFriend

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for CannaCure, they're the only one I'm not familiar with.

Smorgasbord42

One of the growers from Ithaca went there, NY guy with Humboldt experience. Sounds like some fire and rare strains coming soon.

AbZabUMyFriend

I'm not a mod. I don't delete posts. The IRONY is the OP here stated they worked with MFNY back when, and if you go through their posts, you'll see they were out here lo-key repping MFNY without being open about it. But you're not mad at that. You're mad at me because I simply paid attention and called out (and will continue to call out) that you and other accounts only post about Silly Nice. As your other spam account once said to me: "Find something to do with yourself. This behavior you are exhibiting isn’t healthy or sustainable.". (Way to rep the brand, BTW. I'm sure the OP store owner can't wait to work with Silly Nice based on your marketing work on this thread. Y'all seem friendly and easy to work with.) https://preview.redd.it/177sqsr4atyc1.png?width=1658&format=png&auto=webp&s=07d012171d9475c2e07bd8bdb87fe3e7f9b7d540

Anxious-Ad-8540

Consistency has been tough to find

Smorgasbord42

What was good the first time and disappointing the second?

TridentChip

For me Nanticoke Pineapple Runtz. The first jar I got was very pleasing and satisfying. The second was a completely different bud and not as potent. I still like that company though and none of their other strains have been off.

TheTinzzman

The Nanticoke Pluto strain actually put me on Pluto and I was surprised. My tolerance is at not so low level anymore so when something hits me like that I notice.

[deleted]

Has nanticoke improved? I tried them when the first stores opened and it had to be the worst weed I have seen since I was in high school

Glittering_Event_309

their half grams taste like dog food

SensitiveLoquat5549

The only way we are going to see and foster a diverse market is for all dispensary owners to contact the people who have been growing your weed for years and help them go legal by giving them your shelf space as opposed to these massive mso's. If you do not know who has been personally growing your legacy product or where you can find and get in contact with these cultivators and niche extractors, I'd suggest reevaluating everything your doing. I understand that the few licenses that have gone out haven't resulted in product on the market yet, but it is coming VERY quickly and once the gates open there's going to be a small window where these micros have to succeed or they will fold right the fuck up and we will be back to square one In the nicest way humanly possible, im tired of these clueless dispensary owners who want to profit from our unique culture here in ny but not support the very foundations of that culture. It's like watching your favorite band sell right the fuck out.

Smorgasbord42

I have worked with my farmers on the west coast know who had grown my herb for years. New York is an extremely tricky climate to grow in fighting mold and pests. The law is set up for light assistance and full term. Growing deps in this climate on a commercial scale has proven to be a challenge for most companies in these early years. I’m trying to see who has been improving on a commercial scale. Sorry for polling the consumer to compare to my own opinion. I have been a part of the cannabis industry for over 10 years going back to my time in Humboldt pre legalization in Cali. In order to get a clue I communicate with people so my opinion can be educated with others experiences as well as mine.

MattyReifs

You need good and knowledgeable employees and a welcoming atmosphere

Smorgasbord42

That’s the plan, I was a school teacher for years before I got into cannabis so I’m ready and willing to teach our staff to be able to help our customers find what is best for them not what sells best but what will help their situation.

Glittering_Event_309

That’s awesome. How did you save the money if you don’t mind me asking?

Fit_Boysenberry_1964

I think for me as someone with a mid-tier tolerance and products I’ve done some research on, for edibles I really enjoyed Off-Hours and Bison Botanics a lot. Bison Botanics I know is a buffalo local brand and I like how their gummies actually are kinda gummy-esque. For flower for me personally from the stuff I’ve tried I really enjoy Canna Cure (especially glueberry and northern lights), Dank (Buffalo), Honest Pharm Co., and Nanticoke. As an upstate new york shopper from the Syracuse area these are just some my personal favorites and I also like that they have products from low to mid-tier pricing. I hope this helps and I’m excited that you’re opening a dispensary, I hope this journey goes well for you!

Smorgasbord42

Thank you for this!

et_tu_brute187

Bison gummies are fire too! Met the owners / mgmt awhile back.. definitely seem like real good people.

Classic_Offer6190

Glittering_Event_309

thin oil, it smacks hard tho, it’s rough (needs better extraction)

Sick_NowWhat

I like the VCC brands: NY Honey and Spacebuds Moonrocks because they are great for the price, and honestly just solid in general when compared to the same type of products on the market. I’m probably going to be buying mostly rolling green flower since it looks like the best quality flower around me, although there are a couple other brands I might get. I like how MFNY live resin carts and dabs have been feeling, and they’re live rosin gummies are tasty too. I’ve tried their infused prerolls which are tasty but smoke like shit, so it’s also made me want to try their flower at some point. American hash makers is also a repeat buy for me due to the lack of other hash products on the market (for classic and hippie hash), although they’re rosin is really good as well.

Terrible-Umpire636

Off hours!

et_tu_brute187

I agree with much of what has been said-- A couple of the major processors/distributors are dropping loads of product onto new retailers to get their shelves filled at opening, so we end up with the same selection everywhere you go +/- a few brands here and there. Like you said in OP, the market is still very new, but I haven't had a bad purchase yet from Rolling Green or Rec Roots. Both have some absolute fireee. Best I've had in the market (outside of Rhythm) Also just tried Tarot Tokes for the first time and that was top notch.

Logical_Detective736

Are you gonna be upstate?

Smorgasbord42

Peekskill

pienaber

it can't be that hard to figure out what products will keep selling reliably for you right? there's a bunch of multi-state brands with fans everywhere and there's established leaders in the NY market. you should really devote some shelf space to riskier product from smaller, local brands that nobody knows about yet.

Smorgasbord42

That’s what I’m trying to find, carefully crafted and not mass produced filler. Quality over quantity.

Glittering_Event_309

Find (name of brand) does smaller batches and the bud has always been top notch. Please get their carts. Also where is this gonna be located? Syracuse or up north more

Escape-Inside

I think the best thing you could do is check your COA results and only keep clean product. Force the big brands like Electroleaf to actually care about the mold and fix it. By only caring clean products you could help change the game for the better. MFNY is really good. All the med brands are obviously good. Raven Genetics, Platinum reserve is also good.

Smorgasbord42

That’s the plan! Thank you

Escape-Inside

Looking forward to when you open I will def stop by and show some love. Need more responsible dispo owners.

ActuatorFresh2352

Empire is excellent. Love their carts and gummies. Packaging is super high end and actually keeps the gummies fresh

Smorgasbord42

That’s a plus, do not like sticky gummies.

Drew-Bake-1785

The one thing I haven't seen which I would really like is terp counts and levels on all flower and concentrates. There is really no way to tell what you are getting with concentrates until u take it home and dab it. This would improve customer satisfaction as well as making it easier for staff to make recommendations to the consumer.

Smorgasbord42

So one thing I do know is NYS has a weird law about terps, the terpene level is set at 10% which makes sense for disty products where terps are being reintroduced and botanical terps are introduced. But with rosins and resins that go over 10% with natural occurring terpenes in the extraction process are held in quarantine by testing for being over 10%. Terp tests should be part of the reporting of variable data on labels required more than how much CBDa is in something.

Significant-Prior-56

I was recently Lake Tahoe, on the Nevada side. In Heavenly Village, there's a dispensary called Embarc. I think they have a bunch of locations. I purchased a few things. But one was standout phenomenal. I am an Indica only person. I bought a disposable vape pen, non-rechargeable. The company is Bloom, the device is Surf, and the strain is "Fatso". Light years ahead of any Indica strain I ever had, and I'm 61. If you can bring this to NY...I'm first on line.

ItsSoLitRightNow

For flower Rolling Green in a jar (not the bagged stuff) for carts and pods I gotta go Heavy Hitters. Both brands I consider most consistent in their categories. For Gummies definitely Offhours.

MFNY has good products. Concentrate, flower, and edibles. Not enough stores stock quality ounces. Maybe keep that in mind. Would like to see more ounces of quality stuff and discounted price vs. 1/8

Smorgasbord42

Which quality ounces have you seen?

JulietAirway

None that Ive tried. Seems the oz packages are all mediocre. It would be nice to see the quality flower packed into oz containers and at discounted volume price too, vs. price of an 1/8 which is on average $50 and too high TBH

DecadentCommentary

Green Street Edibles have the best chocolate in NY so far, and it's vegan (oat milk), so that's a huge plus in my book.

Smorgasbord42

That’s dope are they distillate or rosin based?

DecadentCommentary

Distillate. You can't even taste it in their chocolate.
