Hey everybody- they are referencing the fact that every single Yankee to pitch a perfect game had a first name that started with D. (Don, David, David, Domingo).
He’s batting .236/.304/.366 in 39 games this season which was a 96 OPS+
He’s good enough to fill in while Stanton is out and is a better 3B bat at least than Oswaldo or DJ
Yeah he’s definitely a big upgrade at the plate at the same time he is also a very very negative fielder
I’m definitely happy with the move though, needed to do something with Stanton out and maybe JD can find a spot here in the corner infield
4 HRs and 230 isn't what I call great. I know he can't defend.
But with Stanton out, Judge at DH and Grisham at CF would be the best situation for the Yankees.
I know Aaron Judge wants at least 1 Gold Glove, and he's got a really good chance at winning it this year at CF. Hm
I came into this thread ready to defemd the move and remind people about how Marp and Maybin were doing before we picked them up, but I really don't have to; those numbers are just perfectly acceptable numbers for a 7/8 hitter
I don't know if his bat is going to help. The dude is a groundball machine.
2.05 groundouts to airouts, which is even worse than DJ who has 1.85 this season hitting everything into GIDP.
Might as well call up Durbin from AAA and try him out. He knows how to play 3B and is hitting .299 AVG with .871 OPS (ranks 44th) with 20 SB.
The gap in offense does not make for the gap in defensive value between him and DJ. I like to think he will be getting Dh reps in Stanton’s absence/platoon third base to give judge dh reps. Fact of the matter is if this is the only option to fill in at third base we need DJ’s defense as many innings as possible.
Zoom out and his numbers are even better.
116 OPS+ in 2022. 105 OPS+ last season.
**Overall 2022-2024 Numbers**: .247 BA, .736 OPS, 108 OPS+
Nice move by Cashman to get a solid hitter in a backup utility role. Big improvement to the bench.
Imagine being traded from Oakland Stadium to Yankee Stadium and -97 DIFF to +109. Just close
your eyes. Imagine. This guy is so fucking happy right now.
The Yankees can talk themselves into anybody with good exit velo and launch angle, even if they’re hitting .124—especially a former MVP for league minimum—but [just look at this page](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jose-abreu-547989).
If he had shown any signs of hope, I have no doubt that Cashman would’ve jumped on it even before Stanton went down.
Damn, what happened to Burdi? I must have missed the injury that put him on a 60 day, I know he hasn't been around for a while, at least since the Guardians series iirc.
Cashman really missed having a JD at third base.
Joswaldo Dabrera was gonna chance his name until this.
Still waiting for Cole to be Derrit so he can get a perfect game
Derrit Cole? Think you're missing a G.
r/whoosh
Are you dumb? His name was Domingo German, not Domingo Cerman.
Don Larsen David Wells David Cone Domingo German Notice anything?
Hey everybody- they are referencing the fact that every single Yankee to pitch a perfect game had a first name that started with D. (Don, David, David, Domingo).
He better hit because the -11 DRS last year third and -38 over his career ain't great.
He’s barely ever gonna play defense. That’s our new dh
He’s batting .236/.304/.366 in 39 games this season which was a 96 OPS+ He’s good enough to fill in while Stanton is out and is a better 3B bat at least than Oswaldo or DJ
96 OPS+ is a huge upgrade on either of those guys
Yeah he’s definitely a big upgrade at the plate at the same time he is also a very very negative fielder I’m definitely happy with the move though, needed to do something with Stanton out and maybe JD can find a spot here in the corner infield
He will probably DH a lot
Yeah, I was thinking more so for if/when Stanton returns and takes back over the DH spot
Great. Two DHers.
Very very negative almost feels like an understatement
JD Davis as a DH? He's got 4 HRs. Not a very DH hitter
He’s moreso a DH because he can’t field worth a damn than because he’s a great hitter
Hm
He’s a butcher so he can’t really play 3b with that But he can play DH for a while and we see if he gets hot
I didn't know that. Do you have a link to his meats?
Jfc that’s terrible that it’s true
Take a look at his last 7 and 15 game stretch. Kinda whack how good it is
.293/.396/.439 .835 OPS in his last 15 for those wondering
Yankees acting like me on the fantasy waiver wire hype trains
I came into this thread ready to defemd the move and remind people about how Marp and Maybin were doing before we picked them up, but I really don't have to; those numbers are just perfectly acceptable numbers for a 7/8 hitter
Hes been better recently too. Dont hate this move at all
He’s a buy low guy that was DFA’d and offers a little defensive versatility. If he can provide replacement level value I guess that’s good enough.
I don't know if his bat is going to help. The dude is a groundball machine. 2.05 groundouts to airouts, which is even worse than DJ who has 1.85 this season hitting everything into GIDP. Durbin is not on the 40 man I believe and more importantly is hurt currently
Ahhhhh, too bad ;(
Coming back to this because I remember our conversation... Davis' 1st game as a Yankee, already hitting balls into DP. Fucking hell...
Yes it does, we only have 3/4 hitters right now
If he is playing the field, the team is fucked. He is a defensive liability
Zoom out and his numbers are even better. 116 OPS+ in 2022. 105 OPS+ last season. **Overall 2022-2024 Numbers**: .247 BA, .736 OPS, 108 OPS+ Nice move by Cashman to get a solid hitter in a backup utility role. Big improvement to the bench.
Career 112 OPS+ in 800+ games. Give him a pass for being meh this year on the As. Not bad at all for a replacement type.
Imagine being traded from Oakland Stadium to Yankee Stadium and -97 DIFF to +109. Just close your eyes. Imagine. This guy is so fucking happy right now.
Boone gonna flip a Two-Face coin every day that says DJ on one side JD on the other
Mendoza's been doing that all season in Queens.
For a bench guy, you could do a lot worse.
A 96 OPS+ is better than what we’ve gotten form most of the IF. Good deal
Tried to tell everybody this was going to happen lol. Most obvious acquisition of all time.
Who is everybody?

The kwisatz haderach
It’s hilarious. On that original post everyone is like “noooo he’s not good” and today everyone likes it.
Classic reddit
Stanton wasn’t injured then and I think this sub still had hope for DJ 😭
Congrats, you’re truly a profit…. Jeter’s weiner
I’m surprised it didn’t happen earlier, I was expecting them to grab him in ST for peanuts
I was asking about him on both Giants and As subs a while back too. Seemed very Cashman.
JD Davis, Mason Miller…. Same thing 🤷♂️
I called it!!! Knew this was cashman’s exact play given JD’s style
He was shockingly good in 2019 for the Mets
I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who ever bought his shirsey. His Mets tenure didn't deserve an ending where he got traded for Darin Ruf.

Guess we really don't want Peraza up here
is it possible that "Cashman" is an avatar after all the cash considerations we have picked up over the years manifesting into a person?
i don’t feel so good about this
Fun fact: “J.D.” is actually short for Jelly Donut.
Is DJ short for Delly Jonut?
No it's short for Dissapointing Jabroni.
I told my dad this was a guarantee, and here we are. Hopefully he's better than a lot of these Cash reclamation projects.
Yay?
This is solid
Nick who?
Cashman and these trademark trades for players nobody wants.
No objections. He's better than what we have.
Good move with all the injuries. Maybe catch lightening in a bottle
ITT: People getting excited about Jake Bauers 2.0
Kinda shocked not taking a chance on abreu.

Abreu has been sucking since last year
Fuck it roll the dice, if him peraza AND rice suck we’ve got the trade deadline but hopefully 1 or 2 of those guys work out
Peraza was only up for today. He's being sent back down tomorrow unless someone wakes up hurt.
🤷♀️
Smallish sample size, but he has a healthy .265/.324/.471 vs LHP this year.
JD Davis is hitting 234 for the As this season, I believe That being said, Yankees won this trade.
This just makes sense given the injuries the Yankees have had.
The D in JD Davis stands for Davis. This guy is a fraud!
Damn, what happened to Burdi? I must have missed the injury that put him on a 60 day, I know he hasn't been around for a while, at least since the Guardians series iirc.
I liked J.D Davis when he was still playing in NY prior to going to San Francisco, this is good
Poverty franchise
Never heard of any of these players.
When is Dominguez ready?
He has a ‘severe’ lat strain. He is not playing at all in AA. Probably August. They showed him at bat, swing, then grab his side.
Cool move the infield around put dj back at second where he belongs trade gleyber already what are they waiting for
I like Cabrera at third. They could have put DJ at first without trading anyone.
