Maybe try squoval (square with rounded edges). I do that because the tips of the squared edges always broke on me. I am also trying to grow mine out and am wondering if I should venture beyond squoval to oval or coffin so I will be interested to see what you land on.

You’re definitely right, a square with slightly rounded edges is what I do most of the time since they’re easier for every day life tasks 😊 and I somehow managed to screw them up too. 😅 I’d say it depends on the length of your nails (especially nail bed), if the nails are longer then both are fine. Guess coffin is more a trendy form and squovals/ovals are more classy 💅

I was lucky to be blessed with long nail beds and when I was younger my nails grew long without any effort on my part. As I’ve gotten older they’ve become more brittle (and a year of nonstop gel didn’t help). So now I’m trying to get my nails healthier, longer and use polish at home instead (I’ve never been good at this so it will be interesting to see how I do)

We have a similar nail shape, so I get it. It’s like the free edge of the nail fans out a bit, so it’s wider at the top than the base. It’s not a perfectly symmetrical oval no matter how much I try to shape it. But square (ish) looks perfect every time and never fails me.

Yes yes yes, you’re on point! Since the nail tip is wider than the nail root, the shape will always look weird - the only thing is to let the nails grow a bit and then taper them so the shape looks balanced, at this length you can’t really cover the imbalance of the shape 😒

I agree, the squares look much better than the ovals. I think it's because the top of your nail is not as wide as the free edge so they look vaguely triangular. I don't know if that makes sense but the square looks balanced in contrast.

I *LOVE* oval and almond nails but a squared tip definitely suits your finger shape best. Maybe oval was too big of a jump from square? Possibly a squoval would’ve been a less dramatic transition. Either way I know what it’s like to absolutely hate your nails and you notice them every other second.

Haha are you me? Tapered Square is my preferred shape and I changed to oval/ round as well because I wanted to try to follow my natural shape instead. It's taking everything in me not to square my corners lol. But on the plus side, I find it easier to type with longer round nails rather than my long square nails so less typos this time around.

Omg really? 😂 Yeeeees saaaaame, I’m combating the urge to file down everything so much because I want to let them grow for a week or two to taper my oval a bit so they don’t look too bulky 😂 I haven’t realised any differences when typing on my phone but that’s a good point, I’ll see tmr in the office whether typing will be smoother on the laptop

Oh I still make typo mistakes on my phone (i switched to android like a year ago and I have significantly more typos than when I used iphone lmao). I use a standard Lenovo computer desk keyboard for my job and I can't get the flat finger typing method down well enough so I ended up buying a silicone keyboard cover so I have a grip now! I have my jojoba oil and lotion at my desk because I'm always oiling cuticles and moisturizing so yeah I was done with getting my keys greasy whilst typing lol.

Imho, the oval elongates your fingers and it looks overall more balanced than the square. I'd definitely wear the oval/almond shape instead.
