Patience! My coneflowers and black eyed susans are just starting to open up now. They are summer bloomers. Do you see any buds forming on them? It is not an ideal time to plant but it is doable. You just need to keep an eye on things as they will require more care and more water. Plant on a cloudy or cooler day and make sure you don't have any summer trips planned for the first few weeks to a month. FWIW I plan on putting a mountain mint in the ground on the weekend. I'm in Southwestern Ontario and it's hot here. edit: typo edit 2: also fall is perfectly acceptable time to plant as well. no need to wait until spring.

Thank you so much for your reply! I see buds on the coneflower, so I'm hopeful! Fall planting would definitely work for me

I have planted butterfly weed mid-summer. Because it does so well with hot and dry weather, it is probably one of the better plants for mid-summer planting.

That's good to hear, thanks!
