Put it this way, the male has one purpose in life, and he stays attached (not how you think) for the rest of his life.
Honestly, it's interesting but very weird, give it a Google:)
Maybe the professor was too scared to put it up on the screen. 😂
I am also on meds for depression and you aren't joking. I'll walk into the room for something and then have no idea what it was. Or I'll forget one of the kids has an appointment, or I'll read a few chapters of a book, then go to read more and be incredibly lost when I can't even remember what I already read. I have to back track and all of the time and it's annoying af. 😔
We had a lecture and PowerPoint once during a reproduction module which included drawings of some different mammal penises. Shout out to the cat family whose males have penile barbs 😖
I know! Must be why the female wails during the process. 😬
Spiders and bedbugs mate by the male stabbing the female's body to inject sperm and it's called "traumatic insemination" 😂
I'm not sure which would be worse. The cat and their barbed penis, or the bugs with the stabby murder dongs.
Makes sense. But it also makes sense they can't cover everything so you not knowing about something quite niche is understandable.
Im just saying it's not your fault for not knowing. You know a lot about stuff others don't know.
Throw that thing in a bucket of alcohol or a garbage bag and freeze it and give it to your local university or natural history museum. That's a fantastic find!
Fun fact, its a female, male are much smaller, and when they mate, which happen really rarely because of the deepsea wideness, the male will stick anywhere on the female body and merge with her in order to share the genetic material for next generation, forming a new symbiotic being, an in some rare cases, there can be more than one male merging with the female...
Just google "Angler fish mate" for weird animal femdom pics.
Imagine not seeing it at all, it’s totally black in the darkness, but it’s attractor frond has those little white tips that look like floating morsels
It's called an Angler fish, [but is it really a fish?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhwcEvMJz1Y) Fish has no biological meaning as a category. For example a salmon is more closely related to a camel than a hagfish.
Angler fish, one of the most iconic deep sea dwellers
A female Angler fish. Their way of reproduction is... weird.
Somehow i managed to get my biology degree wo knowing how they do amd i think i might just stay like that ty

Parasitic fertilisation?
Yes. He basically melts INTO her and just becomes... her. It's not a pretty thing to see, either. 😳😱🤢🤮
This was NOT covered in my Zoology degree 😅 [edit : actually it might have been mentioned. Depression is wild, I've forgotten nearly everything]

Wouldn't this be under the specialised marine biology instead of zoology?
That's true - however, we often did some marine biology modules as well (didn't hurt to have a wider range of knowledge lol)

Most likely.

I'd be pretty stoked to actually see and touch one if I saw one dead like this on a beach, they've always intrigued me since I was a young boy.

That is a female anglerfish. A deep sea animal, and very impressive.

It’s a Pacific Footballfish (which is a type of Anglerfish).

Imagine not seeing it at all, it’s totally black in the darkness, but it’s attractor frond has those little white tips that look like floating morsels
Is there a Ripley fish to fight it?
