so, now that my hormones levels are up to snuff(so glad) is that i realised that, when you're cold you can always add layers but if you're hot, that's your problem lol. at a certain point shit's just too hot.
Some volcanoes can be cold. Cryovolcanoes are present on some of the icy moons of the solar system. The volcanoes spew out water ice, methane, ammonia, and other volatiles.
Right?
My deepest sexual desire is to fuck a volcano by skydiving into it dick first into the lake of hot steamy magma.
I have thought about it a lot. The brief moment where my cock would be penetrating the lava before my body gets incinerated would be pure ecstacy.
I imagine the Leidenfrost effect briefly blocking the sensation, sort of like a steam condom. But oh BOY when that goes away its all nat-ur-al baby!
Euphoria of such unprecedented magnitude that the mind likely cannot comprehend it.
Ill likely never get the chance but a man can dream... Oh well

but still - you're right. What a time to be alive.
You ever try and boot a flamingo. It takes a brave S.O.B. to enforce bird law. Theyre in the trees man... always watching. *Chirp ^chirp. Chirp ^chirp*
While this is funny. As a drone owner the only thing I fear more than trees is birds...
They see a drone and they start to plot how to murder me and my drone simultaneously.
Or maybe that's what was meant by bird laws.... they are laying down the law... on my wallet.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s probably because the lens is distorting our perception of the depth, so things appear sort of flattened in what we would otherwise see as a “normal” or “familiar” depth?
That coupled with the seemingly distorted time code of the video and the lack of anything familiar, we’re absolutely hosed when it comes to this frame of reference
Mostly because there’s nothing familiar to compare against. I once saw a rock fall in slow motion around a glacier but it took me a few seconds to realize it was a building size boulder falling at normal speed several kilometers away. There was nothing in the barren landscape to compare and judge distances and sizes so the whole thing was confusing and surreal.
The focal length of the lens flattens the image. Since this was from a drone above and the incredibly hot gasses that would melt our little flying toys, this was shot with a telephoto lens from a distance. A wide angle lens would enhance the depth.
If there's a slight wind, then you can actually be fairly close - certainly not 1000 metres.... that's a crazy and unnecessary distance.
Also, the camera doesn't appear to be above the lava, but off to the side. Can't tell how much, but something like 20 deg to the side, and with some wind, and you can get pretty close with minimal heat.
I don't know about this specific instance but I know in other situations they've flown until the drone melted and fell in. The videos only one minutes, so it's possible that with prep you could stay there for a couple minutes without complete deformation of the plastic.
I visited the Big Island of Hawaii when I was like 17 on a family vacation. There's a hike you can take to get out to the active lava flows where they meet the sea. We started the hike sometime in the afternoon. A certain point in the hike you are walking on the blackened crust of previous lava flows.
So we get out to the lava, watch it for a bit, poke it with a stick. It was a pretty cool experience. By the time we started back the sun was low in the sky. It was then that I noticed that the cracks in the dried old lava I was walking on? The cracks were glowing faintly.
I because significantly more aware of what you speak right at that moment.
Park rangers?
They dgaf about the haolies wandering around the active lave flow.... When I did this hike it was about a mile across literal glass and the only guide was some yellow caution tape randomly stuck on the ground. No one at the lava except white and Japanese tourists, if we all died I don't think anyone from the park office would have known or cared.
And honestly.... It was the greatest day of my life.
Can confirm - barely any signs. Only signage at the parking lot which is gone since I last visited Volcano Park comong from the south end. There was a Ranger there that warned us that you hike at your own risk, including a story of some guy's left going through a soft patch and his foot into the lava beneath - could be real or to scare us.
Anyways, went out a bit and was ill-prepared for the hike since our shoes weren't tough enough for what's ahead and we didn't have good flashlights. How was your hike back in pitch darkness?
It's a real thing you can do on the south side of the Big Island. It's not in the national park. You pay locals to park in their yards and then start the hike.
It feels like you're on Mars with all the dried lava around you. I went around sunset and when it was getting dark, you were able to see some glow through the cracks. Pretty scary but the lava dries pretty fast while it's flowing. I also poked lava with a stick which made the trip worthwhile.
Live on Big Island now but was visiting back when the lava was active in the park and you could walk out to it, maybe 10-15 years ago. It was dangerous but the park system let you figure that out with a couple signs.
Anyway if my memory holds they had a big shelf collapse which closed out active sections then the lava shifted to an ocean entry. Then the eruption and you are up to date.
Like others have explained, the lava flows dynamically and isn’t always in the park, nor guarded by park rangers or any other authority. I assure you my story is true, this would have been circa 2005.
I remember passing a road sign sticking out of the old flow, and several signs informing you not to stand in the noxious fumes, and that was it. There might have been a police officer standing around out there, but no park rangers. I definitely poked the lava with a stick, my dad definitely melted our camera’s lens a bit getting pictures.
I was sifting through the comment section with a variation of this comment in the back of my mind formulating, trying to come up with something succinct, and maybe even comedic. But here we are. My job here is not only done, but performed well. Don’t mind my uselessness everyone! I’ll just stamp the word “REDUNDANT” to my forehead.
Can anyone direct me to this video not on Reddit? I would love to share with my year 6 students but they already give me hell about the “what’s wrong with your dog” and the “interesting as fuck” subs I follow.

Uhh FYI volcanoes are actually very hot.

Precisely the same temperature as my wife has her shower
Lol. Why do wives set showers to insane high temperature? I thought it was just my wife!
estrogens generally lower your cold resistance & heighten your heat resistance, and testosterone does it the other way around.
Wow, TIL! Very interesting.

Yep, above a volcano!
I wish this was stereoscopic so we could get some idea of how high the lava bubbled up.

Also enforcing bird law
Those birds have had it too easy for too long! It's about time someone cracks down on them.
You ever try and boot a flamingo. It takes a brave S.O.B. to enforce bird law. Theyre in the trees man... always watching. *Chirp ^chirp. Chirp ^chirp*
Flamingos have assaulted our knee deep water for too long
...with their own backward knees. How dare they pink so much.
Which is the main reason I don’t hang out with them, because we only wear pink on Wednesdays.
While this is funny. As a drone owner the only thing I fear more than trees is birds... They see a drone and they start to plot how to murder me and my drone simultaneously. Or maybe that's what was meant by bird laws.... they are laying down the law... on my wallet.
They goos-a-gans are on clear violation of bird law and practicing bird anarchy
Only they can be controlled drones in the sky...
Now, let's say you and I go toe-to-toe on bird law and see who comes out the victor?
Too much *tap tap taping * if only there was a way to stop this tapping Filibuster!

I’m surprised that drone didn’t melt Edit: who else scrolled the comments looking for an answer to this question
It very well may have, just not enough to prevent it from filming/flying.
Possibly wireless feed transmission roo
I'm from Australia and can verify, we do have specialised roos for this.
I always found the feed from them a bit Skippy
Are you proud? Does that make you happy dad?
Or even it just wireless transmits it’s video until it does stop flying and they pull out another drone.
Fly higher and zoom in maybe? Like high enough to be a safe distance from the heat
That ammount of heat will make a hot air column quite wide and high.. Idk you maybe want to be 1Km abovebthe vulcano?
If there's a slight wind, then you can actually be fairly close - certainly not 1000 metres.... that's a crazy and unnecessary distance. I’ll jump in for you.
I need this side by side timesync with a different angle
I didnt notice this was a video at first and then it started turning orange and was OHH so purty
I hiked in and around Kilauea one day and then ate a T bone steak at the rim restaurant, sucker erupted next day, was pretty cool stuff I must say
Nice! Hope that drone is wearing some fire-resist gear...
What do we have that's bigger than 140? Nothing sir...
Back away slowly drone…
Earth power
I feel that drone won’t last long. Gotta be damn hot up there
I wonder if it’s tough to control with all the bursts of super hot air changing the air density.
Time to gather the fifth element
Ngl for the first 20seconds I thought I was getting trolled by those looped videos lol
Volcanoes are so cool
