Sonic makes a killing by building within walking distance of schools, there's a reason so many of us remember it as the meeting spot. The location and outdoor nature of the dining experience were very good for that.
They were also just super chill about us hanging out. We could all meet up there and hang out in the bed of my truck.
If they started getting busy and needed some spots the manager would politely ask if some of us could park next door, so we'd do that and keep hanging out.
I don't remember the good ever being that food, but we would always choose sonic because it was a good ass time. It was like a cross roads where all the cliques could mingle and hang out. I met my first girlfriend there.
Texan here; Whataburger is mostly trash since they got bought out. It’s wildly location specific, like some are still on point but overall over it. Sonic is a good bet to be good no matter where you are
I just read a piece about corporate Whataburger suing some tiny mom-n-pop What-A-Burger that’s been in one single family since the fifties, so that kinda pisses me off. Other than that, I’ve enjoyed it even recently. I like Sonic too, except I spoke with a former employee about some of their sanitation (non) practices, and now I’m a little hesitant - particularly with their ice cream. Very disturbed by what was disclosed. I like the cheddar peppers though. I figure the heat of the fryer will burn anything bad off anyway.
>~~Texan~~ Burqueño here; ~~Whataburger~~ Lottaburger is mostly trash since they got bought out. It’s wildly location specific, like some are still on point but overall over it. Sonic is a good bet to be good no matter where you are
That’s a great question. The last few times I have been to a Blake’s have been great. The fries were fresh, the burgers were super good and service was actually good too. I was at the one on 4th and El Pueblo and the one in Belen. So, maybe new regional manager or something? No idea.
I agree. I recently ate at both Blake’s and five guys and Blake’s gets surprisingly close in food quality. They still make my favorite breakfast burrito. At least going off of the location near my house.
Yeah idk they gotta make them better they’re gonna start losing customers. Id rather take McDonald’s over Blake’s sometimes, and that’s saying something
Their bacon reds can be some of the best and other times they aren’t so great, I like the one by Sadie’s across from little As.
But little As gets a shout out here especially that one on 4th and solar ifs def fast food
I haven’t noticed a change for the better I think people are just used to the lower standards from what they were years ago. My burger was still small and the bun quality still isn’t what it once was.
Don't sleep on Taco Bell. We have the best Mexican restaurants in the world here in NM, and my 3 adult daughters still crave gross ass Taco Bell occasionally. I don't get it. You could not pay me enough to eat TB.
Is blakes on some covert mission to try and get reddit to like them again? I had some from the one on gibson recently and it was still mid. Idk what all the other comments are talking about.
Yeah, but don’t forget about Blake’s. I heard they started to backslide but have recently recovered. Some say the fries are fresh and that the food is on point. I don’t know myself, but I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Blake’s has risen from the ashes to again become meh
Well they fixed the bullet holes in the windows in their SF Airport Rd location finally after like 10 years lol.
They are hit or miss, more hit than miss. When they are on point, oh man! Best burger I ever had. And then an occasional off day from the same location and you're eating cold flavored cardboard. Like WTF?
i much rather go to hardees or burger king. BK didn't make not one state. idk why people like chick filet so fn much. i much rather go to popeyes. this list is suspicious. i would go to culvers over sonic anyday. unreal. doesn't anyone like tacos? what about taco johns? nobody? i hardly ever go to mcdonalds or wendys. SMH!! if i'm in ABQ i'm going to filibertos end of.
They're not even that good though that's what I don't get. Like the sandwiches and the fries need the sauce to even taste decent. They don't even salt or season the fries sometimes.
In n out, McDonalds Subway, Pizza Hut, Dominoes, even Taco Bell/Del Taco are way better than chik fil a
First off they're not even that good. People always talk about the sauce, but having the chicken or fries just on its own there is no flavor there. Other fast food like in n out, Subway, or Taco Bell is much better.
Secondly the owners are huge homophobes who have advocated for such things as anti-gay marriage or the right to discriminate and not hire gay/trans people.
1. The food is really really good for fast food. It is very consistent, which is nearly impossible to find in the fat food industry.
2. The employees are far and away the kindest and most professional employees in the fast food industry. Go to Popeyes and there’s a strong chance they won’t even have enough employees show up to work that day so it will be drive through only. Go to McDonalds and there’s a chance the employees words to you when you pull up to place your order is “whatchu want!?”
3. I’m very sorry someone else’s opinion about sex and gender makes you mad. It’s fast food, it ain’t that deep.
Ah, I'm so glad to see that you're willing to accept intolerance and homophobia as a trade-off for good food.
Also, thanks for counteracting my rexounting of personal experiences of what their food tastes like with gaslighting about how the food is *actually* good.
Here's a clue: if you *need* to add sauce to a sandwich to make it palatable, it wasn't that good to begin with.
Popeyes may not always have the best front of house workers, but at least their batter has flavor and their chicken doesn't need extra sauce to taste good.
Capitalism doesn't always allow us to consume conspicuously, but we can still choose based on ideals. Like yeah when choosing a phone or shoes we don't get a whole lot of choice in how or where those things are made.
But we can be more conspicuous about the fast food restaurants we support. You draw a false binary here by making this comparison.
I'm bisexual and I don't want to give my money to a fast food restaurant whose owners would put me in a gulag if they could.
I was simply stating my preference, yet you felt the need to sweep on and white knight for billionaires who couldn't give a fuck about you. Pardon me for existing and forming my own opinions.
Having used the terms “false binary” now along with “gaslighting” and “homophobia” AND you stating you are bisexual makes this entire conversation make complete sense. I’m sorry Chick-fil-A hurt you. Not everyone has to agree with your morally perverted view of sexuality.
IMHO Blake's and Whataburger are both way better than Sonic or Chick-Fil-A. The only place you'll get a green chile cheeseburger here in Florida is my kitchen. Thank God for Young Guns and 505.
Sonic, IMO, does a pretty good Hatch green chile burger. I’m not sure if you have a Sonic in Florida, but if you get a chance, try it….
To be fair, the green chile is very mild to appeal to the masses, but it scratches an itch….
I'll have to give Sonic a try next time that I am in NM. Unfortunately, the Sonic drive-ins here does not have green chile, at least not that I have seen.
Honestly, I think it’s their customer service that people find refreshing in a fast food market. IMO, Popeyes has a better chicken sandwich, but sometimes I crave CFA fries and CFA sauce, and I’m always impressed with their customer service….
I only like one (Culver’s) on the whole list, refuse to frequent at least one on principle, and haven’t even heard of a couple of them. So as far as food chains go, I would either choose Eegee’s or Chipotle.
This is America. Eating healthy is way too expensive for all of us poors. Now a days eating at all is too expensive. Poor people are screwed, so at least, like drugs, we are poisoning our bodies in an enjoyable way (temporarily and short term of course.)…..
I am actually working poor and I find it way too expensive to eat fast food and knowing the quality of food they serve, I just cook at home almost all the time
What?!? I completely disagree. Popeyes sandwiches are disgusting and their customer service is terrible. Stripes only has great quality sandwiches. Their customer services always on point.
I've never really liked Popeyes sandwiches. I don't know, maybe it's one of those massive chain things, kinda like Blake's, when they get big, they get bad. It's almost like the biggest companies make the worst crap or something.
Sonic when I was younger...loved the footlong chili cheese coneys! But in NM? No beating Blake's Lottaburger! (get their green chile cheeseburger!) Beats the snot outta Whataburger, too!
Blake’s in the summer night after a baseball game with all my friends is a classic memory for me. I miss that place. Sadly no Blake’s in Colorado where I currently live. The closest one to me is in Taos….
Texan here; Whataburger is mostly trash since they got bought out. It’s wildly location specific, like some are still on point but overall over it. Sonic is a good bet to be good no matter where you are
I’m an Arkansan, love NM and have family there. We just got Whataburger in central Arkansas in the last year, several locations opened up and people were pumped! I went once and it wasn’t what I remembered on my trips west, so I haven’t been back. No one else has, either. The line for McDs will be around the building and the new Whataburger next door is empty and looks like it’s closed. You would think they’d open one, do it right, and then expand, but that’s not what happened. Thanks for this explanation!
There aren't many of them anymore, but it's a local business I think. Like WA, Dicks? It's just a Seattle thing and I've only seen one location. I would think Zipps would have that top spot for WA.
A Sonic burger a with cherry limeade and fries mmmmmm
The old fries. Their new fries are trash. Love the onions rings too.
Overall my favorite fast food. Lots to choose from on the menu and just the nostalgia if anything.
I've had chick fill a once in my entire life.. how tf is that dhe most popular in Illinois. Theres like only 1 I can think off in the city of Chicago...
Who did they ask to get these results? I never go to Sonic except for shakes. My pick would be Taco Bell. How are there so many McDonalds and Chik-Fil-A picks? 🤨
I love McDs breakfast. Bacon egg and cheese biscuit was made with science. Sure, other places make a biscuit sandwich, but McDs has the correct formula on how it’s done, in my opinion….
I lived in the land of In and Out, very under whelming. I do not get the attraction. Are they better than McDonald's? Of course, but that is the lowest bar possible
All I see is lies. They got it right on the West Coast with In and Out even though it’s disgusting but we all know that McDonalds takes the crown everywhere. Even overseas
Do you remember loading up in the back of your little league coach’s truck and heading to sonic after a game? I don’t bc I rode the bench and hated the coach. Nah, jk. love sonic always…corn dogs are my favorite. I live in VA now and drove 45 min to hit a sonic recently.
Extra:
The top five most popular fast food restaurants in the United States are:
No. 1 – McDonald’s
No. 2 – Domino’s
No. 3 – Chick-Fil-A
No. 4 – Starbucks
No. 5 – Pizza Hut and Papa John’s (tied)

I fucking love Sonic and Sonic isn’t that good imo
Definitely not worth the price unless you catch happy hour
The food sucks, the drinks are bomb.
New Mexico always has to be different…
Yes, and that's why I love it.
Texas isn’t Whataburger? 🤔
Texan here; Whataburger is mostly trash since they got bought out. It’s wildly location specific, like some are still on point but overall over it. Sonic is a good bet to be good no matter where you are

I love Whataburger although I rarely eat fast food
Go to Texas. Chi-Fil-A has two lanes of cars lined up a half a block. Whataburger meanwhile may as well be Burger King.
Of course it is. It’s a BS survey.
its not. CFA massacres whataburger in every metric

Blake’s, they’ve been killing it lately. They were kind of fucking things up there for a little while, but it looks like they’ve turned it around.
I’ve heard Blake’s went downhill lately. What are they doing to turn it around?…
That’s a great question. The last few times I have been to a Blake’s have been great. The fries were fresh, the burgers were super good and service was actually good too. I was at the one on 4th and El Pueblo and the one in Belen. So, maybe new regional manager or something? No idea.
I loved Blake’s growing up. Now that I live in Colorado I miss it, but I heard many complaints that it isn’t as good. I’m excited to try it again…
I also live in Colorado. Just ate at the Blake’s on Deborah Rd in Rio Rancho last week and it was 10/10.
the blake's in belen has always been great. it never fell off. also the blake's in santa fe that is the walk up blake's is always good.
I was getting a breakfast burrito from the Belen Blakes every morning until my belly got fat and wallet skinny
Same with Los Lunas and Bosque Farms.
You’re the second person I’ve seen on here that said the Blake’s in 4th and el Pueblo was good! I’m going to have to go to that one.
I agree. I recently ate at both Blake’s and five guys and Blake’s gets surprisingly close in food quality. They still make my favorite breakfast burrito. At least going off of the location near my house.
Agreed! I was actually really impressed with my last couple of visits. They easily have my favorite onion rings in town now.
Blake’s is kinda ehhhh
Fr, I had a burger one time and it turned me off from going again, burger was flavorless
Yeah idk they gotta make them better they’re gonna start losing customers. Id rather take McDonald’s over Blake’s sometimes, and that’s saying something
Yes, we’re talking fast food, it’s not gonna win any James Beard awards. That’s what this post is about, fast food.
Their bacon reds can be some of the best and other times they aren’t so great, I like the one by Sadie’s across from little As. But little As gets a shout out here especially that one on 4th and solar ifs def fast food

It’s easier if you don’t associate TB with authentic Mexican food. The cheesy Gordita crunch slaps, but I’ve never seen my abuelita make them….
Burritos Alinstante
Blake’s
Is blakes on some covert mission to try and get reddit to like them again? I had some from the one on gibson recently and it was still mid. Idk what all the other comments are talking about.
Yeah, but don’t forget about Blake’s. I heard they started to backslide but have recently recovered. Some say the fries are fresh and that the food is on point. I don’t know myself, but I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Blake’s has risen from the ashes to again become meh
A lot of them make sense. I don’t get In N Out but know they have their fans, but I feel sorry about the state’s that choose McD’s.
This is pretty outdated: Blake’s Lotaburger is actually really good now!
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Blakes. How are they getting better?….
How has it gotten better? I haven’t been in awhile
Like WTF?
In basically every way. It’s faster, the food’s tastier, and they don’t drown your burgers in pepper.
From what I understand this data was from a “check in“ app over one year in 2016
i much rather go to hardees or burger king. McDonalds for Illinois not Chick - Fil - A
Oh please… It’s Blake’s.
Blake’s over sonic any day!
I scrolled all the way down and NO ONE said Bob's Burgers frickin' Taco burgers?
Sonic burgers are trash these days. I remember when they were bomb AF!
I remember they always asked, mustard or mayo? I get onion rings, chili cheese tots, and cheddar peppers still to this day….
They don’t ask anymore?!
They still do, but they used to too…lol…To be honest it’s been a while since I’ve ordered the burgers. I usually get the foot long coney….
Yeah, the only reason I ever go to sonic are for the cherry limeades.
These are always dumb. Where do they get the data? They doing a survey?
Love Sonic. Incredibly unhealthy. But s drive up ice cream treat always HITS
Ugh chik-fil-a being so dominant in the south makes sense but is also kinda sickening
I agree. I wish I had the willpower to not crave those waffle fries with chick fila sauce!…

Hell yeah Burgerville is the most popular in Oregon, the Keizer In-N-Out can suck my Tillamook cheese-dipped dick!
Chick fil la is spreading

Great customer service and consistency leads to a successful business
Blake's!
This is a survey from 2016 over a 6 month period based on foursquare check ins and is not worth a real discussion.
Jack in the Box. Although I do love Chik fil a
Can confirm I at least get a sonic drink a day😅
I only like one (Culver’s) on the whole list, refuse to frequent at least one on principle, and haven’t even heard of a couple of them. So as far as food chains go, I would either choose Eegee’s or Chipotle.
Not fuckin sonic
Iunno although it’s more expensive, golden pride will always be the go to.
Wish we had in n out 😫
Sonic in New Mexico very accurate. Sonic is awesome by the way.
Bullshit. NM and TX go to Whataburger!
I mean, I moved from NM and where we live now, the closest Sonic is 20 minutes away. I miss having one on every corner.
Spent 14 years in Washington and I can confirm I love Dicks!!! 😏
Username checks out!….
So you always go for a bag of Dicks. No this is not an insult in Seattle, it is normal to make a run for a bag of Dicks at midnight.
My top 3 fave burger places are 5 Guys, Dicks, In-N-Out.
Frisco Freeze, Pick Quicks and Dicks but that because they are thirty minutes away.
Chic fil a isn't even good. Wth
Pretty crazy people still eat fast food in 2024 knowing that you are basically ingesting poison
This is America. Eating healthy is way too expensive for all of us poors. Now a days eating at all is too expensive. Poor people are screwed, so at least, like drugs, we are poisoning our bodies in an enjoyable way (temporarily and short term of course.)…..
I am actually working poor and I find it way too expensive to eat fast food and knowing the quality of food they serve, I just cook at home almost all the time
NM cant afford CFA
Used to hit the Sonic all the time growing up in Los Alamos. Wish we had had a Lottaburger, though.
Stripes Chicken Sandwiches ALL DAY!! 🙌
Some of the best chicken sandwiches you can find.
For more than twice the price of Popeyes. Too bad it's not twice as good as theirs.
Hawaii Zippys is grrat. Just moved from Oregon. I have never heard of the Oregon favorite.
There aren't many of them anymore, but it's a local business I think. Like WA, Dicks? It's just a Seattle thing and I've only seen one location. I would think Zipps would have that top spot for WA.
Only one answer. Bobs burgers
I have to admit. My local Sonic makes the best Fast Food Green Chile Cheese Burger in town.
Blake's
Blake’s Lotaburger
A Sonic burger a with cherry limeade and fries mmmmmm The old fries. Their new fries are trash. Love the onions rings too. Overall my favorite fast food. Lots to choose from on the menu and just the nostalgia if anything.
How could in and out be the most popular in Arizona, there’s like 5 in the state?
There's over 30 as of 2023
Iirc.. this chart is tabulated by number of visitors to store count.
I've had chick fill a once in my entire life.. how tf is that dhe most popular in Illinois. Theres like only 1 I can think off in the city of Chicago...
RIP Griffs
Who did they ask to get these results? I never go to Sonic except for shakes. My pick would be Taco Bell. How are there so many McDonalds and Chik-Fil-A picks? 🤨
I love McDs breakfast. Bacon egg and cheese biscuit was made with science. Sure, other places make a biscuit sandwich, but McDs has the correct formula on how it’s done, in my opinion….
I do like the bacon egg and cheese biscuit myself, and the fries, but don’t really eat the burgers or anything else there.
I'm glad Culver's showed up on Wisconsin. I love getting sent there for work just for that. It's like a better Freddie's
taco john’s :(((
The originator of the phrase TACO TUESDAY!…I think they even have it patented….
It’s Blake’s. Best green chile cheeseburger in a drive thru.
I think Blake’s is waaaaaay better
Blake’s is more popular in New Mexico than Sonic.
Blake's or carls jr depending where I'm at.
Love me some Dicks!! Their pop up food trucks are insanely popular.
I would love to deliver it to someone and tell them to eat a bag of Dicks….
In n out is my number 1. Stoked for when they come here
I lived in the land of In and Out, very under whelming. I do not get the attraction. Are they better than McDonald's? Of course, but that is the lowest bar possible
I think Burger King is better than In-and-Out. I don't get the attraction at all.
I like the fries. They’re just potatoes and salt fried in sunflower oil. Their stuff tastes more fresh to me.
I mean, it tracks.
Anything but Sonic. It is by far the worst fast food I’ve ever eaten
HI’s Zippy's Makiki sounds like something I would love. Whataburger would be interesting.
I wish we had In-n-out but sonic is good… my go to is Carl’s Jr if I can stand the drive. It’s not that far, I’m just lazy
Lotaburger, sometimes chick-fil-a
If I have to? Wendy's. But they've been garbage lately. Guess I'll have to find a Blakes
Honestly surprised Taco Bell didn't make it into #1 in at least one state.
Taco Bell is getting too expensive, in my opinion….
sonic is a new mexican staple because we are all about car culture. plus happy hour drinks are amazingly priced.
New Jersey is apparently the only reasonable state
Said nobody ever
I don’t believe it either, but they’re the only correct ones on this
Sonic is the correct answer actually
Sonic is bomb actually
It’s about to be in n out just give it a few years
Gross
2027
Extra: The top five most popular fast food restaurants in the United States are: No. 1 – McDonald’s No. 2 – Domino’s No. 3 – Chick-Fil-A No. 4 – Starbucks No. 5 – Pizza Hut and Papa John’s (tied)
Sonic hahahaha. Anyone around for a game of kgb? Lol
