Great outing by Cookie that the BP, I'm sure, greatly appreciated. Also happy to see the long ball multiple times.
Overall, great, well-rounded win. Take it one game at a time and LFGM.
Lugo's looked sharp in his last couple of outings. Hopefully, he's found consistency because a 2018-19 version of Lugo would be a massive boon for the bullpen.
She basically said that it was disrespectful to both organizations that he called the games spring training games, and mentioned the Yankee weaknesses against the top teams. She said it was stupid to say that the Yankees were trying to lose the games.
Anything worth looking up? Not going to lie I've found the WWE product terrible in recent times, especially with a better product at another promotion, but with HHH in charge maybe that'll change.
Main event was a lot of fun (last man standing match) and overall fun stuff throughout the night imo… but main event had the coolest hardcore stuff, other matches were just good, fun wrestling matches
Ahhh it was in Nashville lol (open air arena was sick) but it’s mostly cuz HHH is in charge and now that he’s fully in control of creative things will keep improving slow and steady
>Brock basically died in the main event
*Good*.
For real tho, love Brock as an entertainer but if this is the last time a show is built around him, they're already going in the right direction.
I do think he’s not gonna be back for a real long time, you gotta at least watch a couple clips from that match it was bodies everywhere in the best way possible
When I heard Trips was running the show I knew things were going to be really good before long. He did incredible work with NXT, turning that into what was basically WWE's best product. A lot of people hate him, but HHH has a great mind for the business, and he's passionate about it.
I couldn't remember what Gary said about this the other night, so I counted the games and this year, they're 53-4 when they've scored 4 or more. That's pretty unreal.
I’ve thought about this a lot. The Phillies and the Braves both have terrible farm systems. If we don’t trade for Ohtani or Soto, we’re basically guaranteeing that we’ll be competitive for years to come.
Idk who we can trade for that wouldn’t require giving up top prospects but I feel confident getting a righty power bat and a reliever or two.
But also fuck dude it’s Ohtani and Soto we would definitely get to the World Series with them on this team.
Fucking go for it. LFGM
Tbf the Braves have a terrible farm because they've either called up every prospect worth a damn (Strider, Riley, Anderson, Contreras, Harris, Soroka if he comes back strong) or they traded them for a pretty good 1B in Matt Olson. I don't think they'll have issues remaining competitive.
Were the muthafuckin mets and as fans weve watched to many woulda coulda shoulda seasons this is our muthafuckin year weve all been fans to long to be hemmin and hawin about naquin and vogeysaurus we are going to take down every series in our way to the post season and beyond LFGM BOYS THIS IS THE YEAR!!!!!
To be fair yes they went down without taking a lot of pitches but thats because they were trying to tear the cover off a youngblood last minute starting pitcher and most of our early outs were deep into the outfield
Honestly, probably not. This isn’t a criticism of deGrom, it’s praise for our emergency starters (Peterson, Megill, Williams) for stepping up big time.
There are a lot of dogshit teams in the league this year and it's going to get worse after the trade deadline. We are going to feast on them in September.
Not to mention that in every series we've faced the Fish, we've been lined up against the frontrunner for the NL Cy Young. He hasn't been perfect against the Mets but there's no reason to assume we're gonna put a four spot on him in every game.
I'm not saying don't be satisfied with that clip. What I'm saying is that it can't be expected that we take 2 of every 3 games we face him. He's an excellent pitcher who's only getting better.
Just need one or two more batters... along with a couple of relievers
Christian Vazquez and Kyle Farmer/Wilmer Flores/Randal Grichuk would really be a subtly excellent haul.
Flores is interesting because he hits both lefties and righties equally as well. Could start him at 3rd base against righties and start Escobar at 3B against lefties with Flores DHing.
Also plays first well so can spell Alonso there
Everyone that calls into the FAN is using their weekly call at the asylum. Recently heard a guy literally in tears about the fact the Mets haven’t locked up Pete.
Edit: I did once call to argue with that idiot Sal Lacata. He's honestly pretty charismatic but seems to only use his powers for evil. I think there was some Yankee fans throwing beer on the field situation last year. He was ranting for like 2 hours and was just focusing in on the legal consequences they should face, stopping just short of public execution. I called him to tell him that him riling up that type of rage towards individuals, especially when there are legal consequences on the line is out of his job description.
He also said some stuff about Diaz when he was struggling that I truly don't believe he would say if he was white. Really belittling, personal stuff like Diaz's emotional expression when he is having a bad game. Whole time he was taking phone calls from angry fans only, just escalating each others hate.
Fuck that guy.
I listened to WFAN while I was driving this week and all I can say is Wow. I had to turn it off after 10 minutes. I just hope the braincells I lost can regenerate.
If you all think I'm a doomer, there's this one dude that calls in every Sunday morning to Malusis' show bitching about the Mets offense. I forget where he calls from, but he's legit gained the doomer rep from hosts.
For anyone curious, the last time the Mets had a winning record in every regular season calendar month for the full season was...
1988
Edit. I actually put the wrong year. I put 1990, but that was wrong. I just had to double check.
I hate listening to the game on audacy, same 4 annoying podcast commercials. I don't care about your murder mystery, you gay, your uninteresting facts and your weather underground casts. Either rotate or air silence!
Back in the day (c. 1997-1998) you could stream the games in a system called “real audio”… the quality over a 28.8 or 33.6 modem was “tin cans with strings” level of horrible.
But there were no commercials. They didn’t even go to silence. It was “bottom of the sixth after these messages” followed by crosstalk in the booth, occasional gargling, vocal exercises, and announcers asking for an interesting stat on the on-deck hitter.
It was amazing. Just a live mic in the booth with no interruptions.
Oh man. Real Audio was really something. I guess it was ahead of its time, in a way. You could play audio files, stream audio (like you mentioned), and discover new artists. I guess it was kind of like a precursor to iTunes.
Ugh reminds me of how the NBC Sports app had the same few ads playing for Mets games all season long. I'm glad the SNY app at least cycles the ads out for new ones at some points.
Given the return on SP right now, I kind of wonder what the Mets could get for Peterson, Carassco, or even Walker.
EDIT: Downvotes for asking a legitimate question about deadline transactions? Be better fellow Mets fans. Feel free to shit on the idea, but it’s not like Peterson hasn’t been a name floated in a few trade possibilities thus far.
Down voting is typically how people shit on an idea.
But to address your question, we should not look to trade any of our starters. With a healthy deGrom our rotation should be deGrom, Scherzer, Bassitt, Walker, Carrasco. They have all been good-great pitchers this year. And as a contender you don't just trade away good starters.
The only time I personally have seen Peterson's name floated is in Soto or Shohei super trades, the reason being that he's a somewhat proven pitcher with years of team control left, and that's very valuable. He really shouldn't be traded unless it's in one of those super deals because of just how valuable those years of control are.
If you are just wondering what they could get and not suggesting a trade, then that's different. They wouldn't get anywhere near what the Reds got for Castillo. Castillo is a solid #2 in any rotation and also has a year left of arbitration, so he isn't a rental. I honestly don't know what the Mets would get just because I don't remember the last time a contender traded a key rotation arm, but it probably would be about half of what the Reds got if I had to guess (granted the Reds got an absolute haul).
All I was saying is given that Castillo just got four premium prospects, it would be interesting to see how valuable one of these pieces could be in a trade either in the lieu of prospects or to replace prospects we end up trading. Like if we get Ohtani (which won’t happen) it’d be crazy if we don’t consider dealing a pitcher.
Do you even know the word “or,” we have six starters. I am not even saying it’s a great idea, but clearly there are players or even prospects we would consider it for. Man the lack of creative thinking and negativity towards others on the sub is sometimes really disappointing.
To answer your question..... the nats might want peterson included in a soto deal. And we'd have to consider it i suppose. But it seems like the mets arent gonna go after him. Theres absolutlely no way we would trade the other two under any circumstance right now.

Widen the strike zone by .5 an inch (.25 each side), start calling the bottom of the strike zone correctly, basically return the real strike zone back to what it used to be, and suddenly guys will be forced to put the ball in play more. That should shorten games.
Eh idk its fine. The pitch clock has resounding praise in the minors and saves 15 plus minutes of dead time in the game. If you can provide evidence of a revised zone speeding up baseball id love to see it
I have centuries worth of evidence that when the strike zone wasn't altered in real terms earlier this century the games were shorter.
And there was more offense to boot.
One of the biggest problems in the game is guys just pull as hard and launch angle the shit out of things. This is a direct result of the real strike zone lowering after MLB digitized its tracking. The strike zone is actually lower than the rules.
Fix the strike zone and silly gimmicks like a pitch clock won't be necessary. Not to mention, any time shortened by a clock doesn't actually improve the quality of play. Fixing the zone would.
I know it a short sample size, but seems like vogey gets at minimum 1 walk a game no matter how few plate appearances he may get. Pinch hit for in the 7, already had a walk and probably a double.
self promotion but an [article I wrote](https://fruitbasketblogs.wixsite.com/mysite/post/the-improbable-rise-fall-and-resurgence-of-edwin-diaz) about the rise, fall, and rise again of our beloved closer
Excellent article that lays out his tenure. I don't want to be a dick but I had 2 or 3 issues with the grammar-syntax. If you want them I will pass them on otherwise know I loved the content.
1. In the line "4 less than the number of blown save". Change less to fewer. The number of blown saves is countable. 2. At the end of the line " season in the rearview" did you want the word mirror after rearview. 3. In the line " the collapse led many to the question of just what was wrong with Diaz". I would remove the "the" before question and the "of". I think it would be an easier read without the " the" and "of". Sorry I am a retired lawyer and school teacher so I can't help myself.
A bit of risk but we may have one in AAA, Vientos. 2022 Vs LHP, his offensive performance is .326/.386/.708/1.094. Even FO came out and said if all trades fail, we have Vientos.
I just don't know man, I'd rather have an outfield bat than another DH but if we can drop Dom and JD, with Vogley being the emergency first baseman, maybe.
Worse against righties than Vogelbach, has been mired in a bad slump (.590 OPS past month and a .091 OPS the past 2 weeks), power has waned.
No thanks.
He has more upside than anyone we are going to trade for. I think I’d rather gamble on him than Vientos. But I do think this team can win without any more trades.
Not necessarily. You could trade for Kyle Farmer off the Reds who plays multiple positions, has a 1.000 OPS against lefties, and has a track record of hitting lefties. Go the DH platoon route. Heck, Wilmer Flores would be a good option. Hits lefties and righties equally and would add a new dimension to the Mets bench.
JD Martinez is a name. A great name, but he is rounding past his prime
Yea too many people are remembering prime JDM / hoping that's what we get. Maybe he finds it again on a contender but after months of giving guys (Dom JD) a chance "to find it" I have no patience for it, esp during the stretch run.
We gotta get somebody though and we might be priced out on the other platoon options, namely Happ and Contreras.
Of course there's still Wisdom and Drury (who is almost certainly going to be dealt).
Neither player is a platoon option. There are a bunch of players out there that can mash lefties but are meh against righties that are relatively cheap and can slot into a DH platoon.
They're mostly players that are not on everyone's lips, like Tyler Naquin but a righty.
Drury we could get for cheap but I doubt we meet Chicago's asking price for Contreras. Other teams with deeper farms will be more willing to give up whoever their Vientos is.
I'd rather get Robertson by himself and let another team overpay for Contreras.
No. Your team just won the World Series last year after tearing through the Dodgers and the Astros. You have a stacked lineup and a deep rotation. Your bullpen is really good, too. Your team has also been the gold standard in the NL East for the better part of three decades.
But you're here. You're not watching your team obliterate the Diamondbacks. You're not having fun talking smack amongst your fellow fans. You're here, wasting your time downvoting Mets fans in a Mets subreddit. That's a loser mentality, man. Go enjoy your team. They're really good and you should appreciate that.
So all of the Braves fans are losers because their team is fantastic but they like to go on Mets Reddit? Did you consult with Individual-Ninja before posting?
No. We don't all actually know each other. As far as your fanbase is concerned, you're not all losers. My nephew from Tennessee is a fan. But the people like you who come in here, making it clear that you plan on arbitrarily downvoting comments, or the people who have been coming into this subreddit and sending those "Reddit Cares" messages need to get a grip. If you want to interact with us here we will welcome you and talk. But if you're just here to throw shade and troll us, that's really lame.
I was at the game. It was a special game for the Marlins: City Connect uniforms, cowbell giveaway, Puerto Rican heritage celebration, bringing in new players. And they got their asses handed to them on a silver platter. 3 home runs and a shutout.
games like these are my shit. i'm gonna fucking party tonight to celebrate. come on by if you interested in partying. i got scherzer's ps5. i got a skateboard. and i got the prestige on blu-ray
come on fuckin by
Great outing by Cookie that the BP, I'm sure, greatly appreciated.
Oh shit, Danielle McCartan is calling out that clown Keith McPherson on FAN, I love it.
Need the details
What’d she say
She basically said that it was disrespectful to both organizations that he called the games spring training games, and mentioned the Yankee weaknesses against the top teams. She said it was stupid to say that the Yankees were trying to lose the games.
I can’t tell if McPherson is doing a Skip Bayless thing to get attention or if he’s actually that bad
Dude, he just responded with a meme, so he's obviously listening. What a loser POS this guy is.
He’s tweeting at her while she’s live?
Not at her, he tweeted a passive aggressive sleeping GIF. He's listening, but acting like he dgaf.
I feel like the clown emoji is overused, but it’s totally appropriate here 🤡
Last year: Donnie Diesel This year: Danny Diesel
How did naquin look tonight? Saw 0-4 in the boxscore.
Almost hit a 3 run bomb just missed it
Pretty much warning track shots on the reg. Danny “Doubles” Vogelbach was on one today
Decent contact, some loooong fly outs.
Summerslam was a banger (thank you papa H) and Mets take the easy W, things ya love to see
Anything worth looking up? Not going to lie I've found the WWE product terrible in recent times, especially with a better product at another promotion, but with HHH in charge maybe that'll change.
Brock vs Roman was actually fucking nuts
Roman vs. Cody will be even better when it finally happens.
Main event was a lot of fun (last man standing match) and overall fun stuff throughout the night imo… but main event had the coolest hardcore stuff, other matches were just good, fun wrestling matches
I had a feeling they'd do that with the pressure AEW has put on them and it being in Philly of all places.
Ahhh it was in Nashville lol (open air arena was sick) but it’s mostly cuz HHH is in charge and now that he’s fully in control of creative things will keep improving slow and steady
Oh I thought it was in Philly. I just checked Extreme Rules is in Philly. Either way, there's pressure to at least have a PG13 match or two.
Nah this was Summerslam in Nashville, not sure when/where extreme rules is this year lol… probably will be more blood than usual I’m sure
October 8. Summerslam was earlier this year because they are doing a Clash at the Castle ppv on September 3rd in Cardiff, Wales.
Yup, anyways happy with the show and super happy the Mets took the easy W… facing Pablo isn’t easy but we can scratch out the sweep
Is the Brock vs Roman feud finally over? Lol
Looks like it, Brock basically died in the main event lmaoooo
>Brock basically died in the main event *Good*. For real tho, love Brock as an entertainer but if this is the last time a show is built around him, they're already going in the right direction.
I do think he’s not gonna be back for a real long time, you gotta at least watch a couple clips from that match it was bodies everywhere in the best way possible
Yeah I'm gonna hit up r/SquaredCircle and see what's been posted there. I'm sure the finish at least will be there
Yea the biggest spot (not the finish) is one of the hottest clips already lol
When I heard Trips was running the show I knew things were going to be really good before long. He did incredible work with NXT, turning that into what was basically WWE's best product. A lot of people hate him, but HHH has a great mind for the business, and he's passionate about it.
Main event is worth checking out, a casual fans dream hardcore match imo
The Mets have won 20 (I think) in a row when they have scored 4+ runs Just score 4 a game and we are in good shape.
I couldn't remember what Gary said about this the other night, so I counted the games and this year, they're 53-4 when they've scored 4 or more. That's pretty unreal.
But also: WOW that they've apparently scored 4+ runs in 57 games this year
Noah's trending on Twitter. It seems the Skanks have interest.
Let Atlanta take him I don’t even give a fuck at this point.
If they get him it'll be interesting to see if they line him up to face the Mets later in the year.
Nah hed run away again
Thanks, I hate it.
Yeah, totally on brand for them.
30-12 in the division and it's only at the trade deadline. When they got to their 30th win in 2021, it was in September 2 and their 66th win overall.
At 30-12 youd think this was a shitty division. Nope 2nd best in baseball lmao
Yeah they have a really young talented team. They are not going anywhere.

My coworker said wow 2 innings and only 20 pitches the marlins pitcher is crushing it (he knows nothing about baseball) LFGM
He was cruising though. Mets went down 1-2-3 those first couple innings. They didn’t even give any competitive at bats.
To be fair yes they went down without taking a lot of pitches but thats because they were trying to tear the cover off a youngblood last minute starting pitcher and most of our early outs were deep into the outfield
He was in fact not crushing it
Has anyone addressed that we signed Kevin Parada
Braves win still a 3 game lead
We'll take care of them this coming week.
5 game series. That's playoff baseball in August baby
Bringing back the old rivalry.
Braves saver choking
The last time the Mets entered August with 60+ wins? The 1986 Mets with 66 wins.
I read its the 2nd best record in franchise history through 100 games. Only better was 68-32 in ‘86
Goddamn they were close to being at a 116 win clip through july. 108 wins was still impressive
If degrom was here from the get go we’d have the best record in the league no doubt
Honestly, probably not. This isn’t a criticism of deGrom, it’s praise for our emergency starters (Peterson, Megill, Williams) for stepping up big time.
I like how all they young guys got the time to play this year and came up big. It's a good sign for the postseason.
Yes, they pitched well but they aren't DeGrom. We would have another 5 wins.
Distinctly possible.
Think carrasco is having an underrated year because everyone else is having a career year
God the Pirates are dogshit
There are a lot of dogshit teams in the league this year and it's going to get worse after the trade deadline. We are going to feast on them in September.
lolmarlins
Bite your tongue they gonna give us a hard time for the foreseeable future. Good ball club on the up and up

His stupid face shows up in some SNY commercials, gets me tight.

Yes.
fuck judge how the hell did we manage to control carpenter
Carpenter sucks
We have good pitching.
Love trades. Can’t get enough of em. We should trade.
Love to be a part of one!
For anyone curious, the last time the Mets had a winning record in every regular season calendar month for the full season was... 1988 Edit. I actually put the wrong year. I put 1990, but that was wrong. I just had to double check.
The most underrated Mets team ever.
Luigi retired 4 on 14 pitches. Nice.
Who
Local guy we called up. Real rags to riches story. Once just a humble plumber living in his brothers shadow.
They're currently playing the game Max Scherzer no-hit the Mets in 2015 on Pluto.
Don’t forget Harvey was on fire that game too. 6ip 11k’s if I remember correctly but they pulled him early due to the playoffs.
In my mind Max scherzer is a 36 year old rookie the mets just found and us pitching incredibly well. Don't ruin that plz.

Lol did Lindor just back-handedly drag McNeil
Lol buck just said 'a relief for Jeff or us in the dugout?' LOL Jeff is wearing the patience out in that club house.

My brother and Christ why are we even talking about trading half our starting pitching staff??? You're getting downvoted because it's a dumb question
Not enough to be worth it. That 6 deep rotation is huge moving forward.
why does mcneil bat so much better at the bottom of the lineup?
In probability theory and statistics, variance is the expectation of the squared deviation of a random variable from its population mean or sample mean. -Wikipedia
It's fine, we can roll with it. Bat him 9th, so that we are flipping over to the top of the order with a runner on.

Normalize sub 3 hour games
Widen the strike zone by .5 an inch (.25 each side), start calling the bottom of the strike zone correctly, basically return the real strike zone back to what it used to be, and suddenly guys will be forced to put the ball in play more. That should shorten games.
Eh the strike zone is fine. Just implement the pitch clock and were good
Pitch clock and ideas like that will never solve the issues with Baseball. Returning the "real" strike zone to what it was will.

Braves 5-0. No help from d-backs tonight.
Of course they play absolutely pitiful teams when the mets go on a streak. Just our luck.
I looked up their schedule. It seems only slightly more difficult than ours. Their first half was one of the weakest schedules in all of baseball.
6-0 at last check.
d-bags
If we never lose again that problem solves itself
It's crazy how much I love baseball lol
In the books 📚 LGM! 🔵🟠🔵🟠
I know it a short sample size, but seems like vogey gets at minimum 1 walk a game no matter how few plate appearances he may get. Pinch hit for in the 7, already had a walk and probably a double.
He has a career 15% BB%
He is elevating the team, it just sucks we need to platoon him
Well yes but he's putrid against LHP, can't really justify not.
self promotion but an [article I wrote](https://fruitbasketblogs.wixsite.com/mysite/post/the-improbable-rise-fall-and-resurgence-of-edwin-diaz) about the rise, fall, and rise again of our beloved closer
Excellent article that lays out his tenure. I don't want to be a dick but I had 2 or 3 issues with the grammar-syntax. If you want them I will pass them on otherwise know I loved the content.
Gotcha. I appreciate the feedback and am glad you enjoyed it.
Controversial but I’m glad we won!
You sicko
Rooting for the Mets to get a righty Vogelbach instead of going with a big name that will be more expensive
Happ, Drury.
A bit of risk but we may have one in AAA, Vientos. 2022 Vs LHP, his offensive performance is .326/.386/.708/1.094. Even FO came out and said if all trades fail, we have Vientos.
I think Vientos causes issues with the defensive bench. That's 2 guys who can only DH.
We basically have 3 guys that can only DH now. Vogey JD and Dom. Yes JD and Dom can play 1b but that’s not much of a difference.
I just don't know man, I'd rather have an outfield bat than another DH but if we can drop Dom and JD, with Vogley being the emergency first baseman, maybe.
Yup we already have half of a big time DH let's find the other half.
J.D. Martinez.
They're mostly players that are not on everyone's lips, like Tyler Naquin but a righty.
>like Tyler Naquin but a righty. Robbie Grossman perhaps.
I’d be stoked with Drury and Contreras.
Drury we could get for cheap but I doubt we meet Chicago's asking price for Contreras. Other teams with deeper farms will be more willing to give up whoever their Vientos is. I'd rather get Robertson by himself and let another team overpay for Contreras.
I’m cool with Nido and McCann because our pitching is doing well.

Can I get a reminder of how this became a thing?
God bless 6 pm starts and games that end before 9 pm. Holy shit what a feeling.
It’s so nice. I didn’t need to choose between hanging out with my wife and watching baseball.
Manifesting a Braves collapse today. Whose with me?
Clearly not the Braves
Shoot, I posted too early. I meant for tomorrow.
Undefeated in the Vogelbach era
The Vog *epoch* if you will.
Lmao Braves fan in here downvoting everyone
Downvoted.
What do you expect from that loser fanbase.

Delusional bunch of losers who think this is 2021 yet the Mets live rent free in their heads.
So they are losers because they forgot to charge for rent?

And it smells like stale Jim Beam in here….
I was at the game. It was a special game for the Marlins: City Connect uniforms, cowbell giveaway, Puerto Rican heritage celebration, bringing in new players. And they got their asses handed to them on a silver platter. 3 home runs and a shutout.
games like these are my shit. i'm gonna fucking party tonight to celebrate. come on by if you interested in partying. i got scherzer's ps5. i got a skateboard. and i got the prestige on blu-ray come on fuckin by
Ike Davis in the house. Noice!
We Like Ike!! The last I heard of him was seeing him play in the last WBC qualifier for Israel.
