My favorite album… It begins with a song where he’s searching for the presence of a god in a dark world. Then in the second to last song he realizes “god is in this hand that I hold” Then it ends with the fucking apocalypse. Because of course it does Brilliant

Connect_Surprise3137

My favorite of his. McGarrigle Sisters. Need on vinyl.

SkillFlimsy191

My favorite album.

Callanoj

Also my favorite album of Nick’s. The lyrics, the melodies, the compositions, everything about it! This was the entire outfit at the top of their game.

yjmstom

Also my favourite album. Oh My Lord hits hard each time.

Dirty_Tleilaxu

The plot! The plot!

yjmstom

Kept saying that I was not the man I used to be

greggobbard

You don’t listen to this one, it listens to you.

FingergunsFriday

Well put

akaKinkade

My favorite album. I got in the habit of listening to it during large cooking projects, especially during the winter. I've built up this strong connection between these songs and the smell of meat braising in wine, tomatoes, and herbs.

FingergunsFriday

I can see that working perfectly

Equivalent_Tell3899

Yes! This is the one that hooked me too! Had heard/seen bits and pieces previously, but I worked in a record store when this came out and we played it on repeat. Also, saw him for the first time on this tour and have been obsessed ever since! Such a great album!

ghl37

Still the best of his, in my opinion. I couldn’t stop listening to this one for a long time. Just wire-to-wire one great song after another.

AskRevolutionary2554

My gateway album, heard it when i was 16, i'm 39 now and i still love it like i did more than 20 yeara ago. The final song, darker with the day, still kills me every time i listen to it.

BothKindsofMusic

My favorite album. It’s SO dark with the occasional glimmer of hope. Clearly his struggle going through recovery.

YouNeedThesaurus

Songs 1, 2, 3, 5 & 7 I listened on repeat for years. The rest I wasn't too sure about. Haven't heard it in years though because even though the music is beautiful reminds me too much of that period.

Ok_Emergency7619

I heard this album on JJJ just after a breakup with a long term girlfriend and at a time when I was distancing myself from my religious family and turning my back on the career path my parents had pushed me into. I felt like Nick had looked deep into my soul and taken all my fears, hopes and desires and lain them out for all the world to see in beautiful lyrical form with mesmerising piano and violin accompaniment. It hooked me and I never let it go. My CD copy came with a bonus disc of B-sides and I love Grief came riding and Bless his ever loving heart as much as every other track on the main album. Years later after reconciling with my mother, I played her music from this album as she lay dying in a hospice and we wept together at the beauty of the raw and exposed lyrics with the violin soaring over the top (the instrument she played so well herself). I will always love this album and it will always be my favourite. It was my gateway drug to all the other Bad Seeds works and I’m certain Nick cave will forever be my favourite musician.

FingergunsFriday

Wow, that’s sounds like a really powerful connection to this one

muffin_man84

It's not my favorite, but is no means bad. In fact, it's great it just doesn't quite get the number of rotations some of my other favorites get. The plot the plot!

Esteban_Rojo

The best work by the band. Multiple songs that are emotional all timers. His best lyrical work in my opinion found throughout the album as well.

Both-Preparation-123

I've never listened to anything after boatmans call. Where to start?

MrMike198

If you like boatman’s call, this one. It’s the next one anyway and it’s in the same vein as Boatman’s Call. I like how through a lot of his career, there are records that can be grouped together in a way. This one goes with Boatman’s Call.

barbed_shrike

The most devastatingly beautiful album, such a masterpiece.

Lavinia_Vortex

I love this album ♡

OldboySamurai

I think that *And No More Shall We Part* (the song) has one of the best, if not the best, vocal perfomance Cave has ever done.

Wolf_Watching

Great album.
