For anyone coming to the comments:
We do not allow discrimination based on what someone is. I do not care what your political opinions are, that does not justify hate. Do not comment that type of stuff here.
we had sally whos bi, and a general pride flag crossing. an actual genderqueer character is exciting, as its not something missable / handwavy when talking ab the character
The comment is saying that media nowadays forces the LGBTQ+ community by making it very obvious when it didn't need to be. Subtle hints too their sexuality is fine.
Making it obvious is fine, it's important to represent at this stage in television. It would get annoying in the future or if it's forced but I think pointing it out is ok especially since there are entire books or shows about the main characters being of a certain minority
Making it obvious is fine, it's important to represent at this stage in television. It would get annoying in the future or if it's forced but I think pointing it out is ok especially since there are entire books or shows about the main characters being of a certain minority
But like if y'all want lgbtq+ to become something normal, you should all act like it is normal like being straight is normal and we don't jump because of it, why would we do that if someone is part of the lgbtq community?
Like another user said, we're currently in an age where despite progress being made, there's still a long way to go. And so as ally, its exciting knowing that people are getting to be represented on screen and that people are getting to see themselves on screen, that this is paving the way to a period of acceptance and normalization. I don't get excited seeing straight characters, at least not for that reason they could be a great character, because I've been seeing them all my life. Things like this are small. But they're progress.
So is literally everything else, while i agree that the hate should stop, everything is discriminated against, and you know what else is rare, characters having flags describing allegiance to different sects and religions, because if that was displayed, it would = hate.
The person above's point, still stands, no matter what, by situating a relatively new concept to society, there will always be people who hate (which i disagree with) and people who may disagree (as there should be, nothing is objective) except things that have been morally wrong since the dawn of time
to stop hate you have to make it not welcome.
yes in a perfect world gay and straight relationships would be treated the same mostly, but you cant just ignore a groups current struggles
Can’t wait for people who have never watched the show or had opinions on it to complain about how this “damages the youth” or some dumb shit like that. Happens literally every time a gay character shows up in kids media and it’s so tiring
Non-binary is not about sex, it’s about gender. Even if you believe those two things are the same (which they aren’t), then it has nothing to do with any definition of sex outside of gender identity. Kids are not harmed in any way by seeing it.
I feel like some of these comments here are forced. But if you're excited for it, glad someone is. At the endnof the day, I'm more so focused on the quality of the show over anything else. As long as they focus on making a good show, they can do whatever they want
the word woke for me is like an asshole stabbing my back. i cant seem to keep up with its meaning but currently it seem to be a word meant to describe something or someone as being supportive of oppresed minorities such as lgbtq. so YAY NINJAGO IS WOKE!!!!!!!
Ok but genuine question. Why do they need to put sexual stuff in a kids show in the first place? Like what’s the point of putting in a lgbt flag? I’d understand if it was a show for 18+ but not Ninjago.
What are your thoughts?
sexual stuff? this is a flag, not a phalic image. Also, it's not sexual in any way possible! It's gender, that is completely different! This is just minor representation. And it means so much that it's in a made for kids show (Not a kids show, a made for kids show. there's a difference.)! I am pretty sure that in 2003, this would not have been tolerated a single bit, not for a show in general, let alone a made for kids show! So it's good we can get more stuff like this, because there's a lot of issues out there about erasure of less common sexualities and genders. So it's a good thing we're getting this.
I'm sorry if you were just confused and have been so used to not seeing any lgbtqia+ stuff in your Ninjago. It's great to see representation of any kind no matter what, anyone saying "They're shoving all this lgbtqia+ stuff down our throats!" do not understand the stuff Achilleans and lesbians had to go through seeing clearly gay guys and gals being stuck with the main character or just being horribly stereotyped or being straight up being horribly written.
It's amazing to see anything considering LGBTQIA+ in Ninjago! I personally am a Lava shipper, and excited for a character having only one syllable one their name getting a boyfriend!
Edit: I'm basically just ranting. Not trying to start an argument or anything. If there's any info I got wrong, please tell me and I'll fix it.
There’s also a Pride flag on one of their backs. Nice that the studio or writers finally get to make this kind of move. I think they’ve been vying for it for some time, like how Cole didn’t get a love interest besides Nya until Vanya. Pretty heavily implied to me that he only tried dating Nya to be conformative, and that he’s probably ace or something given the SoG ending
Honestly doesn't even make any sense for 3 reasons, pixal stated Cole was her best match, there were no indication that Cole had just done it to one up Jay as he reciprocated Nyas advances and Cole being one of the most logical members of the group as he was the previous leader before lloyd it feels out of character to cause a rift in his group because of that.
However that being said, ninjago has had a decline in writing quality ever since sons of Garmadons as they had also completely changed some of the characters personalities
I honestly think that the character is probably just supportive of the community rather than being apart of it. Just because a character has a symbol of a community that doesn't mean that they are apart of it.
If this character is then cool.
If not that is also cool because those hint are showing that not only Lego but also Wildbrain and those who works on the share are supportive of that community.
***As much as I love to see representation, and would get hyped to see my Identity flags up there (*** >!Asexual, Aromantic, DemiPlatonic!< ***\] ,***
***I find one problem***
**In real life**, *We wear those flags as a sort of rebellion to people that oppose us.*
Why do people oppose us? because they think / believe that being for example Gay is not normal, yet it is, ***it's as normal*** as being straight.
**And keeping that in mind**, I like to see *Ninjago as a universe where question about attractions, orientations, sex, gender,* ***AREN'T*** *a thing.*
**Why?**
**Because they're all equally normal !**
***So if Ninjago were a safe space from start***, why'd there be need for rebelling and showing who you are and that you're different, when everyone is different.
**By showing real life flags** , and ***only very very veeeeeeeeeeeeeery rarely***, it makes it seem as if those characters need to be very confident and feel safe and brave enough to be themselves and feel the need to be a very rare person to show it, because their identity is discriminated against :|. That would make Ninjago a copy of our real life, ***where people get discriminated for their attraction, orientation, sex, gender.***
**If Majority** ( 90%+ ) of people of age in Ninjago **marked their identities** ( Including ofcourse Hetero, Cis, Allo ). **I'd know, it's so because that's how they show who they're into or who they're not into. just like Ring on Ring finger would/could mean you're married for example.**
**But since a flag appears so rare, it makes it a copy of our world. where people are afraid to exist simply for their identity.**

"are you saying-"
no, no im not. youre the one saying it.
Saying cornrows are a popular black hairstyle is not implying a white person explodes if they wear it
'The duke' is a very popular modern hairstyle for black kids and men (miles morales has the hair style as well). it ynow requires afro textured hair so its not excactly something most white people can wear unless they perm their hair
Saying something is culturally connected / popular with a certain group is not implying its only for said group
You're saying:
"Saying something is culturally connected / popular with a certain group is not implying its only for said group"
So, under that logic, Arin doesn't have an oficial ethnicity. Is just the people that gives too much power to an idea (ejem: Arin is black for having an black persons associated hairstyle and a black skin VA).
Don't take this too personal, but i think that all of this is a kind of inverse brownvoice/blackface or whatsoever (sorry, i dont find the moat adecuated word) that leads to cathastrophic results: the persons make their headcanons of technical aspects outside the series or make it from passing jokes inside the series.
Yes coding inherently does have some stereotypical baggage, but its a very historical thing.
When certain groups of people werent allowed to be in media, writers had to wink wink nudge with certain stereotypes. (like the prissy man generally is coded as gay or whatever, or queer coded disney villians)
obv modern coding is much more tasteful but it still exists.
believe it or not afro textured hair and black hair styles are extremely common coding for black characters in media with non human (or at least not visibly human) character
its a pretty historic thing
The point is that people outside of straight cisgendee people exist and yet, media hasn't done much to represent them positively until fairly recently. People deserve to be able to see someone like them onscreen.
nah they make them represent fairy just that was nit that much like lately but still some shows are bad because of bad writing and is not to complain about lgbt but some people just push too much in story arround lgbt I watched last time Nimona and was good but they pushed lgbt too much and much story wasn't that good if they didn't circle that much about lgbt here but less for building some others thing in story in my opinion using too much one thing in story bring too much harm to entire story as with every thing or they should use many elements but without harming story that is hard to make
LGBTQ+ representation doesn't make a story bad. Plenty of stories have strong focus on straight romances. Why is it treated as so different when a character is from the LGBTQ+ Community but when they're cisgender and straight its not as big a deal?
I don't mean they make story bad but I mean if there only this one thing where we have super build world and like someone make dragons in world and this person will not make more about dragons but just drop that there dragons and we see one and there's nothing more about them because we only focus on all things about lgbt and accepting these thing we don't get nothing more from world build in this way because all is going into this one thing we didn't get nothing new at this point but only that this represent lgbt and acceptence if I watch movie anime or others thing I want to see world build as well and this also go into straight thing but I talked now about lgbt responding to you comment there can be romance with world build and not only dropping things
in Nimona we get super short time with her entire memories and her friend or crush whatewer she was and only because showing this gay man and his being crybaby because his boyfriend didn't help him and his boyfriend was was ok but then his mental talk was annoying
I know this is for children but still why not make longer memories or show this Nimona friend or crush and bring us more about relationship these have or how this fight look if there was any fight in first place
sorry i write that much just my entire point is that you can make full romance thing but you should also show good world build if this lgbt or straight and if you don't want to make more with world build then don't show us some story we don't even can experience but see short cut of this and this what most happen like here in Ninjago we gonna enjoy this because they making entire world build
Still i couldn't care less whether im represented or not ITS A SHOW ABOUT NINJAS BEATING UP BAD GUYS AND SAVING THE DAY STOP BRINGING ALL THIS OTHER SHIT INTO IT
I like how ninjago is able to represent the lgbtq+ community without it side lining the main plot BTW I personally think the electric chicken runs a fries chicken place
As a nonbinary person, I just think it’s really nice to be represented, especially since a big part of the show’s fanbase is against LGBTQ+. It shows that they support us, and that means a lot to me.
Fair point. As an American, should I expect to see an American flag so I feel represented? I am an advocate of having no relationships at all in kids TV shows whether that be straight or gay, therefore it’s weird to me to have a lgbt flag in the show I’ve watched since I was young
A minority is a group that isnt the majority, more specificly its an ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, or sexual minority are what is generally considered. For ethnic it depends on the region, like the japanese are an ethnic minority in america, but they are the majority in japan.
Usually when people talk ab minorities they are reffering to specifically opressed minority groups
Its not gonna encourage kids to be gay. If growing up with nothing but straights everywhere didn’t make gay kids straight, then how would a little gay representation make a straight kid gay?
You’re proving my point. In a society where straight is considered normal, gay people still exist. If we were relying on characters in tv shows to determine our sexualities then everyone would be straight
For anyone coming to the comments: We do not allow discrimination based on what someone is. I do not care what your political opinions are, that does not justify hate. Do not comment that type of stuff here.
Nice nice but PART 2 IS OUT?
Part 1.5 more like. Only 5 of q0 episodes
10*
Where are you able to watch this?
I second this I don't see it on Netflix. Maybe it's on the Lego channel app.
I have figure it out, episodes where leaked. https://reddit.com/r/Ninjago/s/26XJgbsmhM
Personally I’d rather wait till the full season come out
Yea I'm just going to wait like a normal person
Oh that's sucks.
Youtube
Last I saw they where removed
It's tragic that the first nonbinary ninjago character has no drip whatsoever
They were stuck on a boat for... idk how long at that point
ok yeah that's cool... but is that **THIN JOKER HAIR?!**
oh my god it is
Why is everyone so exited?? We have seen pride flags before in the show, this is just normal.
we had sally whos bi, and a general pride flag crossing. an actual genderqueer character is exciting, as its not something missable / handwavy when talking ab the character
Sally was lesbian I thought
she has the bisexual flag on her guitar case
Didn't she also have the lesbian flag on the back of her van? (I'm not great with pride flags but I think she did)
Its the progress flag
Ph
Oh
And for once they’re not beating you over the head with it
"and for once" oh go throw a rock out on the lake or something queer people visibly existing isnt "beating you over the head"
The comment is saying that media nowadays forces the LGBTQ+ community by making it very obvious when it didn't need to be. Subtle hints too their sexuality is fine.
Believe it or not there is no 1 way representation should be handled. Both should exist
Making it obvious is fine, it's important to represent at this stage in television. It would get annoying in the future or if it's forced but I think pointing it out is ok especially since there are entire books or shows about the main characters being of a certain minority

Might be the first show I’ve seen to not do it, big props for that. Ok arcane was also good about it
any representation is still exciting
Because representation is important and more of it is a good thing.
Don't know who downvoted you but I'll fix that
Thank you. I usually don't mind getting downvoted but I know the motivation here has the possibility to come from a bigotted place.

But why is important? I say, is just a character with a badge, then?
What episode did they appear in Dragons Rising Part 2?
The second one, ep 12. about Seafaring folk
Can’t wait for people who have never watched the show or had opinions on it to complain about how this “damages the youth” or some dumb shit like that. Happens literally every time a gay character shows up in kids media and it’s so tiring

A character’s identity is completely kid-friendly. The fact that you think otherwise says quite a lot about you.

Are you good or bad excited
Satire excited
why do they have to be excited?
They dont have to be but i dont know what the impression was

Good for them :)

Wait a damn minute
This brings a smile to my face, especially considering how many trans people I know that grew up with the show
Yeah its quite lovely! Im enby myself so its nice to see a character in ninjago thats enby :)

what gives you that idea? (about Cole)
Word of god. tommy said that cole didnt have any feelings for nya and he was only doing so to one up jay
Fair enough
Honestly doesn't even make any sense for 3 reasons, pixal stated Cole was her best match, there were no indication that Cole had just done it to one up Jay as he reciprocated Nyas advances and Cole being one of the most logical members of the group as he was the previous leader before lloyd it feels out of character to cause a rift in his group because of that. Maybe the reason it didn't work out despite cole being canonically her best match is bc he's gay :P
Well he definitely isn't gay when he showed interest in Vania and him being gay would make him not the best match
its vania
Ace/aroace Cole sounds good to me
he do like cake
Exactly the scene I was thinking of lol
agreed to this anyone wants to dissagree I will not care as not all need love only cake

Its not a big deal. It's a tiny flag. Our kids will survive.

prounouns are way too woke! I go by it/that now! (this is a joke, don't ban me!)
that's awesome!!

nice edit how do I have 10 upvotes?? i just said one word??? I mean I am happy that Ninjago shows this its sweet and kind and wholesome :D
Honestly... I do not care.
if you didnt care then you wouldnt have commented <3
Twitchy Tim family confirmed?
ok

Well, for one, this character has a more gender ambiguous look to them, and two, this character is played by a nonbinary voice actor, niah Davis
It's not a big deal. I'm fairly sure it's been seen before and shouldn't mean much outside of the team showing their support through Easter eggs.
We love to see it
Idgaf
says the one who commented
hm, i didnt see that on the first watch cool
Omg my gay self is so excited!
Wait part 2 is out??? Also this is exciting news, it's shitty to see so much bigotry in this comments section

well discrimination is shown to exist in ninjago, but irl opression stuff is implied to be much lighter and not really existent.

Pride flags before black people is wild
Most lego characters are ambigous. Ninjago is based on a mix of asian influences. Besides arin is pretty explicitly black coded
How though
Black va, afro textured hair, a popular black male hairstyle (the duke), etc
Are you saying that the Arin's hairstyle is only for black people?!?! Thats a bit racist, i think

I'm pretty sure Arin is meant to be one
There’s a fan theory that Arin is black coded in dragons rising.
Why do I feel like it’s because he lost his parents
Why am I being downvoted?
they're literally legos. they're whatever race you want them to be.
I dont get the point of representation as thats got nothing to do with the show, i dont get the hype but good for you i guess, im glad tour happy

So?
Representation = cool

Yeah, I was surprised too, nice to see that Ninjago is ok with LGBT people.

making ninjago at all isnt necessary but you appreciate that it exists, no? people seeing themselves in media has always been important

bye! we wont miss ya <3
There is no discrimination in what I say: I just want to know why is this a big deal?
As a nonbinary person, I just think it’s really nice to be represented, especially since a big part of the show’s fanbase is against LGBTQ+. It shows that they support us, and that means a lot to me.
Fair point. As an American, should I expect to see an American flag so I feel represented? I am an advocate of having no relationships at all in kids TV shows whether that be straight or gay, therefore it’s weird to me to have a lgbt flag in the show I’ve watched since I was young
American is a nationality, and not a minority
Would you mind defining minority?
A minority is a group that isnt the majority, more specificly its an ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, or sexual minority are what is generally considered. For ethnic it depends on the region, like the japanese are an ethnic minority in america, but they are the majority in japan. Usually when people talk ab minorities they are reffering to specifically opressed minority groups

Correct. So?

Its not gonna encourage kids to be gay. If growing up with nothing but straights everywhere didn’t make gay kids straight, then how would a little gay representation make a straight kid gay?

You’re proving my point. In a society where straight is considered normal, gay people still exist. If we were relying on characters in tv shows to determine our sexualities then everyone would be straight
Gay isnt a choice you uncultured buffoon, foul swine, idiot motherfucker.

I have no qualms with this and i think its outta left field but very neat
