I dont get it.... More chance of runaway mold there??

lord-timpa

I haven’t tried the runaway mold way, platinum works well too!

Lonesamurai1

nowhere near Mould farming As you can harvest more mould while you have some in the refiners, compared to waiting however many hours for silos to fill of gold and silver

Aluakbar445

Isn’t mould a 5-1 ratio which unless your out here collecting residual goop by the tones is basically useless? Personally I go for tainted metal, shits crazy

Lonesamurai1

but it's the SPEED of harvest When you fill the refiners, save, reload, the Curious deposits respawn while the refiners keep refining, and you can keep saving, reloading, harvesting, repeat while the first lot is refining

sxespanky

Don't even need to save and load - take a short range portal about 500 ft away and bam. More mold.

Lonesamurai1

the Save & Reload method negates the refiner glitch though, in case you go away and the refiner eats whats in it ;) But yes, to the space station and back should do it, but if it's not your base, easiest to save & reload

sxespanky

Ahh, I normally get a ton of resources, put them all in refiners and go do a chore with game running.

Lonesamurai1

I do the same, my farm has four refiners, so I save & Reload to get four more stacks then go do chores while the refiners do their business ;D

TwistedDecayingFlesh

It won't but for mine i'll farm for 10 to 15 mins than fill my large refiners and go afk an do some housework than go back collect the 4095 nans from each one and go afk to let it finish the first stack than load another stack and go afk again and you'll soon have 50k if not more.

SmashedRolex

Oh so that IS a thing? I had 2500 goop vanish from my ship refiner when I warped to a new system. I was unamused.

Lonesamurai1

yup, refiners on freighters can be even more finicky, I've had stuff dissapear when I goto the other end of my freighter layout to pick some plants

SmashedRolex

I tested it again by accident. I threw in 2 or 3000 copper in, turned around, did some inventory management. Looked in the refiner not only was my copper gone but it had been replaced by 110 sodium nitrite. Where in hell did that come from? And where is my copper?

eBulla

Strange, I haven’t had a single problem with the freighter refined. I’ve logged out and came back the next day, and they were still going. 🤷‍♂️

Aluakbar445

Hmm yeah that works, fair enough I take back what I said

Lonesamurai1

not only that, but if you turn off multiplayer, you can use another players farm and save yourself finding one :D

Kerciel_Soren

I just might start doing this considering I just remembered my old nitrogen farm had a small patch of runaway Mould behind it, around 12000, and it has just been sitting there chilling this whole time.

Sdejo

Sounds great but i never do stuff where it gets to save&load. Just don't like the gameplay loop

DJ_Laaal

No need to save/reload. If you get into your ship, fly away from the mould spawn for 4-5 seconds, return to the spot and land. Runaway Mould would have respawned already. Unless you have a faster save/reload time than this.

Superfluous_GGG

Or have two mould farms and teleport between the two

TwistedDecayingFlesh

You don't need to save and reload just get in your ship fly awy about 5 seconds turn around land and farm the mould and rinse and repeat. If its a big deposit of 15 or so balls you could be getting 3-4 full stacks if you have the +50% resources and mods Point is you can be upto your neck in nanites in no time.

mikeybadab1ng

Add oxygen

Useful_Internet

It'll take ages doing it with residual goop but if you find balls of runaway mould it's way faster

Aluakbar445

Oh really, I didn’t know they had massive deposits, I always thought you had to rip shit out of those broken machines for it

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aluakbar445

Ah ok

Daedalus_Machina

It's called curious deposit, and as soon as you shoot it, gravity holds it fast. If it's on a hill, you're gonna be running. I usually raise terrain around it. Oddly enough, raising terrain doesn't seem to get automatically reset. Some I raised stayed years later.

Le_Swazey

Gold + Silver = Platinum Platinum refined = Nanites

Jayslacks

The fastest way to get nanites is to go murder sentinels.

Raspberries-Are-Evil

How so?

h2opolopunk

Selling off the upgrades you get from the glass they drop.

Raspberries-Are-Evil

All I see is barrels that are usually more bullets. What do you mean by “glass?”

h2opolopunk

[This stuff right here](https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Salvaged_Glass)

Raspberries-Are-Evil

Is this in the barrels or is it separate?

h2opolopunk

They are in those glowing cylinders you pick up from the sentinels when you kill them.

Raspberries-Are-Evil

Ah, so instead of opening the glass with "X" (on Xbox) it you put them in a refiner for nanites?

h2opolopunk

Not even! You should be able to open them up (X on XBox, E on PC) and I'd say like 75% of the time they'll give you a sentinel upgrade, which you can trade in at the local space station. I'd guestimate that every 10 sentinels killed are roughly worth a couple of thousand nanites. There are also other things you'll get like Antimatter. Mind you, some of the sentinel upgrades are worth trying out.

Raspberries-Are-Evil

oh you trade the upgrades. GOTCHA

Chinchilla_Lodestone

if you pick up the barrels (instead of shoot them - or did they fix this?) then you get glass items; analyze glass and you get x class upgrades. Sell x class upgrades to the dudes at the space station (offer to buy upgrades and then switch to sell while in menu).

Raspberries-Are-Evil

Thanks. My issue is Ive been shooting them.

Chinchilla_Lodestone

Note that unless they've fixed it now, the walker head gives you one item for opening and one item for shooting.

changopdx

The glass they drop can become upgrades, which can in turn be sold for nanites at space stations. You can also refine the pugnium they drop into nanites although the upgrades give you way more. I've been scrapping ships for nanites but I had a very good (and fun!) time with my Minotaur yesterday totally obliterating waves of sentinels, gonna do more soon.

FrontColonelShirt

Ugh. Whyyyyyy is the first expedition upgrade that you nn then; m mdifficult to craft? Two quad servos? I find walkers easier to kill than those hellhounds. Ugh. Wish I could find a harvesting recipe for quad servos… maybe I should finish that sentinel quest with the cute little drone dude, maybe the rewards are helpful for fighting waves of sentinels until they send the pup.

[deleted]

This is what I do. 👍

Nex_Skala

You can also refine the stuff you get them. Pug something or other.

krul2k

i prefer just doing Derelict Freighters tbh

FrothyStout

I must be stupid, I found at least dozens of derelict freighters and not one of them will let me land on them.

MamuBoczek

you found abandoned ones not derelict for those you need emergency brodcast recever

SillyBanterPleasesMe

If you’re stupid; I don’t know what I’m considered! I know damn well that you can not land on abandoned freighters but will always still look for a spot to land on before realizing my mistake!

Shagroids_McFloomin

There are two types of derelict freighter spawns in the game: Pulse Anomalies and Broadcast Reciever Derelicts. The ones you're talking about are Pulse Anomalies which cannot be landed on, however you can trash the cargo pods for some items. Alternatively, you'll be wanting to use a Broadcast Reciever to locate a Derelict Freighter that you can actually land on and explore the interior of.

Warper1980

Tainted metal refining for me.

Aluakbar445

Aye😎👉👉

_Pan-Tastic_

Yep, and the runaway mould from derelicts on the side too.

luke_1657

Why is this good?

Professional-Menu835

I think OP is mining gold and silver, refining those together 1:1 to create platinum, and then refining platinum into nanites. But that’s a lot of work for nanites… platinum:nanite ratio is 35:1 too so it’s a very low output. You put 999 platinum in your refiner and get… 28 nanites? Maybe I’m missing something.

Nemesauce

I didn't know platinum refined into nanites. With a large extractor set up it could be a nice way to earn passive nanites. I'll have to give it a try one day and see.

luke_1657

Ah Okay , I never knew you could turn plat into nanites, thank you

One-Award-9906

But, if you’ll do massive factory and will every day return to nms it will be very good source of nanits

Thundrox

You refine platinum like this Platinum + Silver + Gold the ratio for platinum to nanite is 25:1. It uses lots of silver and gold

Professional-Menu835

But how are you getting the platinum? Refining silver and gold? Which takes time and refiners. This is a lot of steps compared to curious deposits or tainted metal. If you fill a refiner with runaway mould, you get 2000 nanites. If you fill a refiner with tainted metal, you get 20,000 nanites. If you fill a refiner with gold, platinum, and silver, you get 40 nanites. It’s just not for me. Everyone has their own preferred nanite method.

Thundrox

I sell upgrades for nanites I was just saying a way that lessens the ratio for platinum to nanites. I don't know runaway mould but it does sound easier than changing to platinum and then to nanites

Professional-Menu835

I do appreciate the discussion I was probably sounding somewhat dismissive. Shipbreaking is a good method!

Familiar-Trip-4022

Yeah I am pretty noob and i want to know more as well

drrevo74

It's not.

JohnnyMarlin

I have a legacy save, so in that particular save file's freighter I had large refiners onboard. For some reason after processing 2,200 units of tainted metal, which left 4,400 units of nanites processed, the stack of 4,400 kept reappearing after I would quick add it to my inventory. Basically it kept glitching a new stack into existence. Went from 80,000 nanites to 650,000 nanites in like 5 minutes of button mashing. It doesn't seem to work on the new refiner rooms that you can build, so I'm pretty sure the glitch/bug is specific to medium/large refiners that could be placed in the freighter, which you can no longer do in saves made after Endurance. Kind of a specific set of circumstances, but any legacy saves out there not already flush with nanites could try and recreate it if they want.

LeeDarkFeathers

2 of my brand new refiner rooms are currently glitching me 2kish nanites every 5 mins or so. And another one thinks it's building a stellar extractor somehow

JohnnyMarlin

That's another weird glitch/bug. But for me I didn't have to wait any time, or even leave the hopper menu. I could just quick-move it to my exosuit and then another stack would appear. So I just had to press triangle (playstation) over and over without going out of menus or moving away from the refiner or waiting any time. I haven't tried to recreate it, mostly because I don't even need anymore nanites on that save file, and my new save file isn't legacy so no large refiner units, just the default rooms. I'm sure whatever is happening to you and the other person who responded are a few of many other bugs/glitches in this patch. I find discovering these things is half the fun though, some of the things that this game does are ridiculous, I love it. So far on the new save I'm doing I've just had stuff disappear from the refiner rooms, nothing too bad lost, but no duplications in those rooms yet.

rylantamu9

This actually happened to me for the first time last night, and I was using the Refiner rooms in the freighter. If I had to guess what caused it, I had moved my storage rooms to the very edge of the base all by itself so I wouldn’t see the rooms. Which in turn made the draw distance for the rest of my base only like 4-5 rooms. So I had 6 refiners in a row and the last 2 were invisible and as I ran toward them they would bug out and have my refined materials in it. I ran back to the other side of the room and back again and it would give me more materials again.

lindre002

I wish nanite farming was more interesting and meaningful. Like, right now raw nanites come from interacting with literally useless terminals and sometimes damaged components. Otherwise, its collecting literally every form of mold and fungus, shooting asteroids for plat, dismantling ships for components or combining Ag + Au. The ability to farm nanites fast should be a reward for knowing the game or being a skilled explorer. The laziest implementation i could think of could be gaining rep from explorers guild which unlocks nanite refiners, and you only gain rep from explorer guild by accomplishing various tasks to prove you already play good.

Ainz-hame

Tainted metal has a 1-2 ratio for nanites. Like a Max stack of the metal is like 5 maybe 6k nanites

slgray16

I earned 70,000 nanites in 4 hours last night making and turning in Herb Encrusted Flesh. I only turned in half my stash. I'm a couple hours away from 70,000 more. All you need to get started is a few mordite root plants and fungal clusters. Process them in the nutrient processor up to Herb Encrusted Flesh. Don't make too much at a time because it takes an hour or two to turn everything in at cronus.

eBulla

They need a mass turn in for food. I don’t have the patience to sit there for house turning in food.. lol

slgray16

If you are on PC I can send you an autoit script. That way you aren't tethered while it's going on.

eBulla

Xbox sadly

Ixirus

Mass murder sentinels (loot Salvaged Glass, crack it for a chance to obtain Sentinel Upgrade Module and then sell for nanites) or With an income source (units): mass buying ships at space stations, unmount them in pieces ( chances to have technologies to ressel for nanites) Those are the 2 ways to get nanites fast. I never found better than these.

DJ_Laaal

I’ve never used any other method than to farm runaway mould. It’s boring but very reliable (no chance or luck involved).

Superfluous_GGG

I do both, but the ship selling is probably best overall as the checklist goes: 1. Crash economy and be about 20 mil up 2. Buy everything I'm stockpiling that the terminal is selling 3. Buy and scrap anything A class and cheap 4. Move on and repeat. End result, big piles of everything

Ixirus

Yeah I think each method has their pros & cons To complete, sentinels for farming the royal weapon.

Superfluous_GGG

Absolutely - I consider it rude to visit a planet and not introduce the local sentinels to my minotaur

MonkeyBusinessCEO

nanites? what material there gives nanites?

lord-timpa

Silver + Gold > Platinum > Nanites

DJ_Laaal

What’s the conversion rate?

Tawkeh

Abysmal

roman525215

what is mould? or mold?

h2opolopunk

The former is the UK spelling, the latter the American. Both mean the same thing.

roman525215

thank you but what is mold i haven’t come across it after 500 hours in game

h2opolopunk

My bad, there are planets that are "infected" or "mo(u)ldy" on which you can harvest it. It's usually plants but also sometimes minerals that you can mine them from. It's not necessarily rare, but it's not terribly common either.

roman525215

i see that’s strange i don’t spend enough time exploring too much time in paradise and making bases

Xalkurah

You can also find mould clusters on some paradise planets, it’s just less likely to occur on them.

Stormthorn67

And on toxic planets. Thats where my mold balls are. Enough for 1200 nanites each harvest inside my base

DJ_Laaal

I get 2000 nanites per harvest on a paradise planet. Edit: updated to 2k nanites per full harvest. I incorrectly read the prior comment as “runaway mould stack” instead of “nanites”.

Stormthorn67

Thats a pretty big yield. I flew to a couple sites on the planet I found to get mine. It's 12 balls averaging 500 mold each. Sometimes a little more. Doesn't seen perfectly consistent. Are you getting a lot more per ball or just larger field of spawns?

DJ_Laaal

The cap for 500 mould per ball is a bug (or so I’m told). To get the same yield as earlier, just equip a multi-tool that’s different than your regular one (or the one you had on when the recent update dropped). Even if you don’t use the multi-tool to mine the mould. That seems to bring the usual yield per ball back to the usual rate.

kirby824

I don't know why you're getting down voted. I found two ball spawns pretty close together on a paradise planet and this is my go to farm for quick and dirty nanites.

Xalkurah

I didn’t realize I was getting downvoted haha. Yeah my mould farm is on a paradise planet

VahniB

Before the sentinels update there was this glitch involving the sentinel walker and how you did it was you dig inside of a mountain (from the ground into the mountain, but dig a little bit down), get 5 alert level, but before the sentinels detect you, you need them to detect you while you’re inside the hole. When they detect you, tons of sentinel walker brains would drop out of the sky and you can just use your ship’s weapons system to shoot them all. Got 500k nanites every time I did this.

RandomEntity53

Well, certainly all the Chromatic Metal you'll ever need...

IRay2015

Hey, so I’m a relatively new player and this post got me thinking. What’s the best way to grind nanites? I need a ton and it’s been slow

DJ_Laaal

Runaway Mould farming/refining is a good way to amass thousands of nanites. It’s not the quickest but it’s reliable. Also, buying A/S class ships and dismantling them will generate mods you can sell off at the space station in exchange for nanites.

starcraftre

What's the point of nanites after you've unlocked everything?

Negega

You need quite a lot to upgrade the class of ships and multi tools. Think this is mostly what people do with it after unlocking everything.

dalisair

Lots of pet companions!

Chinchilla_Lodestone

I prefer hitting hadal cores or abandoned buildings (larval cores) or salvaged data. Refine process is REALLY fast, and once you get used to the above, each method can be done pretty fast.
