Looks very similar to a build I got a year ago. Same Graphics card, same CPU. I think that's good enough. There's no need to overpay for a graphics card imo. There will be a next gen soon
It should still "see" that the HDMI is plugged in and the DP is not.
Your CPU has an iGPU. Pull the GPU out and plug the monitor into the port on the motherboard. If that still doesn't produce video, the problem is something else.

Powered up. No pops or fizzles. No video though. Google tells me GPUs prioritize display port over HDMI so I'm off to go pick that adapter up.

Turned it off and then on again and everything works fine. (Shrug) It's all good! Thanks for the help.
Just power it on. Unless you damaged the circuitry with water or something, it's not going to blow up
