My theory: So I was replaying the beginning and booted up the laptop after getting kicked back to whitespace when Basil finds the picture of Mari in his house. I noticed that in the few week or so Omori (Sunny) spends alot of time in white space and only visits his friends a few times. But then he begins to spend everyday with his friends.
Could this be a sign of him repressing his memories more and more by spending more time in the happy dreamspace where everything is OK again?
Have you visited the Lost Forest yet? It is hidden in Pyrefly Forest. Find it and you'll learn just a little more about Headspace that might hint a bit towards your theory.
I'm not sure what HyperVexed is trying to hint at with the Lost Forest, but the way I interpreted this was (huge spoiler) >!whenever Omori resets headspace after a cycle, there's a period where he's stuck in white space while headspace is resetting. It must take a while for him to put everything back to the way it was, no?!<
It's basically just a hint of the plot of the game, >!Whenever Omori represses his memories he's stuck in white space, but the truth always comes seeping back in gradually (symbolized by hanging with friends more) until Sunny comes too close to remembering the truth and Omori has to suppress the memories all over again. There are a few places in the game this is pretty much outright stated, I think mostly in black space?!<
Though it's been a while since I played the game, so entirely possible I remember this wrong.
Whitespace is described as an empty an empty cold white void, and it's use is for survival of the mind. The problem with whitespace is how empty it is. It is the type of bordom that kills, and it's not something that Sunny can easily sustain. Hence the creation of headspace.
Headspace is an extension of whitespace and a part of it. It is powered by Sunny's imagination and its purpose is to form a place where Sunny can repress but also live(ish). Quite literally the definition of a utopia when you think about it.
The computer logs describe the transition from whitespace to headspace as something that happens gradually, mainly because Sunny can't/doesn't want to 'live' in whitespace for so long.
Of course headspace is much more vulnerable to the truth seeping out than headspace, but that is a risk that Sunny is willing to take to experience 'living'

Maybe it was because headspace was resetting? Since at the start of the game a new βcycleβ just started.
To me it just means that sunny is either sleeping /depression/ or repression hanging out with friends
