I own both, it's not even close. The 3 resolved every issue I had with the 2. I played the 2 occasionally but I play the 3 daily.

Slobbadobbavich

I had the original wired version and never touched it. Massive waste of money. Quest 3 is amazing.

slowlyun

there is no wired version of the Quest.  Maybe you're thinking of the Rift.

Slobbadobbavich

Yes, I was meaning more the occulus line-up rather than the quest specifically. Such a poor experience was the reason I kept away from the technology for such a long time. I am not saying it wasn't impressive for its time, it just didn't knock on my box enough to make me want to use it.

m3551xh

You're thinkjng of the Oculus Rift. All three generations of quest have been wireless

Common_Project

Agreed. Buying the quest 2 seems like a waste at this point, I have the funds to buy both and I never once considered spending $300 on games I went straight to “I want what’s going to handle whatever new releases come out”. Plus the pass through isn’t perfect but it’s useful and I just like not feeling like I settled on something to save a little bit

Temple0fP00n

Exact same situation here. The 2 got pulled out every once in a while but the 3 gets multiple hours of daily use from both my wife and I. There are also newer games starting to come out that will only be made for the 3.

SeanBannister

What is it about the 3 that makes you play it more often? I've been considering upgrading from the 2 which I only use occasionally.

Temple0fP00n

The 2 gave me headaches and eye strain if I used it for more than 10 minutes or so. I also hated the lenses and the halo effects from them. The 3 is night and day difference imho. The visuals are much better, the pancake lenses are a game changer and the pixel density/graphics are a huge improvement. I can use the 3 for hours and not have eye issues or get headaches. My wife didn’t like using the 2 and I have a hard time getting the 3 from her 😂 The Augmented reality mode on the 3 if pretty good too. I’ve played multiple AR games or watched shows in AR, parking my screen somewhere in space and still able to see my phone or do other things outside of the headset simultaneously.

vernorama

Not the OP, but the visual upgrade and processing speed/graphical power are significant enough to go from "neat" to "oh shit, this actually looks amazing". I use a lot of VR systems from PCVR to PSVR2, and the Quest3 is still my go-to, for both standalone and for PCVR over wireless (Virtual Desktop). The quality of the pancake lenses make every experience crystal clear, and its just a fantastic bit of equipment. Across all of my VR systems, I would say the Quest 3 is the gold standard for standalone, and it is the ideal wireless PCVR kit as well.

Tadian

How's the controller tracking? I read very often it's not much better than quest 2 and that's my main issue with it. Yes higher resolution is nice but I mainly play beat saber and pistol whip anyway :D

AnxiousAtheist

Don't really notice a difference in tracking.

FLC2312

Pro controllers are the way to go if you really care about tracking. I have them and they're awesome. Loved them on the Quest 2 and now love them on Quest 3. As long as they are compatible with future generations they'll be with me for a long while yet.

Tadian

I don't think any controller can be worth 350€ though. If it was 200€ I would consider it but not 350. That's just ridiculous imo.

FLC2312

Yet some pay £200 for a single Playstation 5 controller...

Gregasy

Yes. Q3 really is worth its price.

StrangeCalibur

I am in the same boat here, played the 2 once a week or so, then after I got the 3, daily.

Spindelhalla_xb

What do you use on 3 more than you did on 2?

AnxiousAtheist

I actually use the 3 for media on occasion, never considered that an option on the 2. But mostly gaming both PCVR and native.

AI_Lives

daily, whats your favorite games or experiences?

AnxiousAtheist

Ghosts of Tabor

Electronic_Usual_373

Same for me. I didnt regret selling my Q2 a single bit. Occasionaly played with the 2 nearly daily with the 3

Fun_List381

You can get Quest 3 and not buy any games

boardgamejoe

Yeah I have paid games but spend all my time playing Population One, Poker VR and Cards and Tankards.

Bluejay7474

That's funny, I spent my money buying Population One, and still spend my time playing a free game.

HornedDiggitoe

Try Contractors Showdown, I don’t think I could ever go back to Population 1.

Fun_List381

We are not the same

dannydrew24

Yeah I just bought a quest 3 . Two weeks ago and I have never played VR before. 27M. And I do not regret spending the 500$. Completely worth it

rlvysxby

10 bucks will get you township tale. I spent over 100 hours on that.

doublej42

I've played more free games on my quest 3 in the last year than I did paid games on my quest 1. So I kind of think the quest 3 with no games worked out for me. I do have a few hundred games I've not played enough of though I should play those too.

nejdesdopice42

Pistol whip with controller gun extension is a fuxking must

Slobbadobbavich

You get Asgard’s Wrath 2 for free with the quest 3. That's a AAA $60 game (or something along those lines as I don't know its current price).

evlampi

You get both this and first game too, that one pcvr though.

rafamacamp

Where do I get the first one? I couldn't find anywhere

evlampi

Meta Quest Link -> Library

rlvysxby

Hey this is a noob question. If I have a game in the quest library on my pc then how do I get it working on virtual desktop? It tells me I need to be connected to link.

evlampi

Don't have virtual desktop, so can't help with that, but to be connected to link you need the meta quest link or steam for meta turned on on PC and see in them how to configure your headset.

FLC2312

You launch it from the GAMES tab within Virtual Desktop. The Oculus app doesn't know you are connected unless you use Airlink, therefore you need to launch from within VD. The thumbnails for all your Oculus/Steam games will be in the GAMES tab of VD.

KL58383

rift store

Glass-Astronomer-889

Also it's a HUGE improvement from the 2

deadringer28

Yup and still get 6 months of Meta + for free too so there is another 12 games you will get with your Quest 3 plus access to the other games in the library that will rotate each month.

yankoto

I see your logic but... Batman

jmadluck

There's a Batman game?

yankoto

Batman Arkham Shadow comming to Quest 3 only at the end of the year. Gameplay trailer coming next month.

rlvysxby

This won’t run on quest 2? If this is true then I will stop telling people to get quest 2 lol

True_Refrigerator_91

Nope. They are pretty clear that it would be a q3 exclusive

-IamPeacock-

Expect more exclusives to come this year. We'll have to see how Batman turns out, we've seen nothing of gameplay.

seanwee2000

Yeah it's not even quest 2 + 300 dollars of games because you won't be able to buy and play the games you want soon.

SithLordJediMaster

Problem is Meta is coming out with Quest 3 exclusove games because that's going to be the main focus.

angelv11

Exactly. Just like the original Quest was eventually filtered out, so will the Quest 2. We're entering the Quest 3 era. And just like PS5 exclusives, there will be Quest 3 exclusives. E.g. Batman.

degenerate-playboy

Batman?

dannydrew24

yes new batman game coming out only on quest 3

SwissyVictory

You have to add the cost of those games on top of the system. Lets say you buy the Quest 3 for the exclusives, and there are 4 games that you get that are meta 3 exclusives before you upgrade your headset. That's an extra $50 per game, and im assuming the exclusives are expensive on their own. Is Batman worth $100? Now if you have been using your headset a ton, I can see the extra resolution, processing power, better lenses, and exclusive games being worth the money. But for someone who dosen't know if they like VR, I'm not so sure it's worth over double. And if you end up being wrong, splurge on the Quest 4 when it comes out.

QuinSanguine

I think Quest 2 is a good deal at $200 but only for patient gamers who don't care about Quest 3 exclusives in the future, yet. Me, I think a Quest 3 with Asgard's Wrath 2 free and a cheap Quest + monthly sub also looks good, considering you can play Batman, Metro, Alien and Behemoth later this year.

Bluejay7474

Oh yeah, I remember when I pre-ordered my Quest, somewhere it said if I pre-order it, I would get a 6 month trial of the subscription. How would I even claim that, or is it too late now?

HornedDiggitoe

You need to buy the 512GB version for the 6 month free trial. You can contact meta support if you need help claiming it.

Bluejay7474

Oh,OK, that makes sense. I pre-ordered one 512GB one (fantastic) and one 128gb, so that at least accounts for one of the emails I either didn't get or missed.

Kilomara

It showed up for me when I went to the Meta Quest + signup page. Be careful though because it’s only valid for a few months. The first few had games I already owned and when I did go to get it, it changed to 1 month and I had contact support who gave me some credit instead.

NekoLu

You even get 6 months of + when you buy a quest 3 iirc

Slobbadobbavich

Yes, this is a good point and very understated too. Even without spending a penny you have access to a bunch of paid for games and 2 titles a month as well. You could get the quest 3 and not spend a penny for half a year!

EvanGR

Do the 6 months start counting the moment you activate your subscription? i.e. I bought my Quest on April, if I activate in June, the 6 months will start counting from June? Also... you get paid games for free? Thanks!

Slobbadobbavich

It starts when you activate it. You only get to keep the games whilst subscribed though which sucks. If you cancel and resubscribe later, you get the games back.

EvanGR

Thanks! Do you get free games, you normally would have to pay for?

HornedDiggitoe

Only the 512GB version.

dudeatwork77

You can do that when the Q3 exclusives are here. I don’t see any of that yet. Q2 is fully capable for today’s games. I have both.

Strongpillow

Just so you know. Meta just officially announced their game showcase for June 1st with "next gen game announcements" which means Quest 3 specific. I would, at the least, wait to see what those announcements are. Quest 3 is a more future proof investment. Edit: I may have jumped the gun and been misinformed. The "next gen announcement" part in the tweet got me.

Bluejay7474

Oh shit, did they? I really want to see this.

RnB-306

No, I don't think that they did. Someone accidentally shared last year's date and announcement.

koolaidicecubes

If you’re referencing the post on this subreddit, it’s the announcement for last. Try to find the official meta post, you won’t be able to.

Appropriate-Role9361

Meta likely priced it this way so either option is attractive. From Meta's perspective, the advantage of having the Q2 so cheap is it gets people in the door so they can spend money on games, so they get their cut that way. If the person buys a Q2 and then splurges more on games (compared to a Q3 and less games), they get still make up lots of money from the extra games. Another advantage of a person buying a Q2 is that they'll have to upgrade sooner than if they bought the Q3, so they'll be dropping more cash on hardware. And of course the advantage of having a cheap entry model is simply a larger userbase, so they stay king of VR.

HornedDiggitoe

Meta priced it this way because they stopped making Quest 2 and want to sell out their remaining inventory before they announce the Quest 3s.

jeweliegb

It seems likely, but is it confirmed they've stopped making the Q2?

HornedDiggitoe

No official confirmation, but it’d be dumb to keep manufacturing more of them when the 3s is right around the corner. Especially since this fire sale means they are selling at a loss.

jumbotron_deluxe

I think this is spot on. Quest 2 gets people to buy in to the experience. The ones that are already bought in will buy the 3

edwardsc005

Instead you could buy a Quest 3 and a 2,000$+ PC , then you'll really be broke AF....but you'll have the best experience lol.

CookieLuzSax

My man🤝

MrEfficacious

LOL

edwardsc005

To be serious though...I do realize that a lot of new people are looking to try VR for the first time now as it is becoming more popular...and I think the Quest 2 is logically the best "entry level" VR device. It's the same with anything...you wouldn't buy the most expensive option if you aren't sure it's something you're really going to use a lot or if you're even going to like it. The great thing about it is that all those game purchases get carried over to the Quest 3 if somebody decides they want an upgrade. No loss there. And a lot of the games I've purchased on Quest 2 were available on the Rift store when I finally got a good PC.

dan_jeffers

But you aren't going to play $300 worth of games all at once and unlesss your money is pretty tight you'll be able to afford more games by the time you really need them. Quest 2 is a good budget choice for people who really can't affort a Quest 3, but I don't think 'Quest 2 + $300 in games' is a better choice for most people.

JamesIV4

For me, the Quest 3 was the headset that removed the right amount of friction to make it something I use a lot. Quest 2 and below all just made me tired thinking about playing VR. Quest 3 I'm just excited to use. I would definitely recommend it over the Quest 2. Plus Quest 2 is pretty much being abandoned now. You'd be stuck with only back catalogue games going forward.

Unable_Basil2137

Never thought about it like that and I like it, what kind of friction are you referring to?

JamesIV4

64 gb storage, not-quite-clear display (but good), pretty poor but usable B&W passthrough, slightly heavier on the forehead, having to remake guardians pretty often. It's just all the little things that the Quest 3 improved on that add up to a much better experience as a whole. The biggest one for sure is the MR ability of the Quest 3. To me it's so cool to be able to immediately see my 1:1 reality when I put the headset on. It easier to use and see family members if I need to. I think that feature alone remove a lot of the friction, since I can see better to pick up the controllers, much quicker to create guardians too.

MrGravityMan

My dad has a quest 2 and I got tongue it for a bit. The value of VR experience for the cheap price is great. I snagged a quest 3 and the pancake lenses are a game changer. Also I just signed up for the first month of the quest + and you get quite a lot of decent games in the catalog, it would keep you going till some sales happen. Also no matter which you get, Resident evil 4 VR on oculus is awesome, but it once it goes on sale.

Slobbadobbavich

I just bought that game in the sales. Q3 all the way.

probablyaythrowaway

I don’t know what they’ve done with the lenses in the quest 3 but I can play for 6+ hours without getting eyestrain but on the Quest 2 I struggled to play more than an hour or two without getting tired or feeling awful.

PXSaber

To improve the game quality in terms of graphics and frame rate the developers need to use the latest technology. As seen with exclusive announcements for the quest 3 like Batman, you see the end of the Q2s lifecycle. Don’t buy into old tech. Q2 plus 300$ of „old“ games that also run in a lower quality until you someday can’t even get updates on it and you’re being phased out… nope, not a good idea! Get the best hardware possible and then grab 1-2 good games pf your interest or some freebies and enjoy I mean seriously, it would take years to play all games you buy for 300$

MrEfficacious

Years? Most VR games are significantly shorter than full games found on consoles.

PXSaber

Also they are a lot cheaper. You don’t pay 70$ for a full price title… Well its your decision in the end. Get a four year old outdated tech and be happy with it as long as meta supports it. After that period of time just use it as a door stopper

Affectionate_Job_828

Get quest 3. No brainer

OhTheHueManatee

The Quest 3 is a much better experience IMHO. Totally worth the price difference.

DEXuser1

rather wait for Quest 3 lite so it can play the exclusives

youchoobtv

I read it has no controllers

Slobbadobbavich

I read you have to use your nipples as joysticks.

JonnyB2_YouAre1

Quest 3 is the easy choice for me.

Expert-Weight8899

Quest 3 is worth the money.

NotSeriiouss

Absolutely quest 3, i had the q2 a few years ago for testing to see if i like it. I hated it, while the technology was new and interesting, the resolution, tracking, refresh rate and FOV were too bad to keep. Just got the q3 and Absolutely love it, i would've paid 800€ for that headset. Worth all the way, if you want to go with q2, take a look into the pico 4.

OvertlyInspected

It's not a tough choice. Q3. I own both

Magn3tician

Quest 3 and it's not even close

therankin

If I didn't have a Quest I'd probably go for a Quest 2, but since I've owned a Quest 1 since release I had to go to Quest 3.

KushosaurusRex

Quest 2 price point was the entry I needed to VR. 2 months in and I got my VR legs and some great games. I spent lots of accessories that hopefully I can use on the 3 when I upgrade. I love my 2 but one day I'll get that sick nasty 3

MRHBK

Get a Q3 and meta plus sub

There_can_only_be_1

This is the way

MRHBK

Remember when Q2 came out it was oh don’t worry we will still support games on both Q1 and Q2. That soon didn’t work out well for Q1 owners.

Cincodeffe

Quest 3. I had the exact same choice and got a Quest 1, and then they discontinued support 2 years later. If Facebook makes this a trend, and you are trying to get into the hobby, just get the newest for your first purchase so it will hopefully last the longest.

Bluejay7474

You can get the Quest 2, the $300 worth of games, and when the Quest 4 comes out, you can get the Quest 3 and $300 worth of More Games.

annaeatscupcakes

I love this logic. I bought a Quest 2 around Christmas. While I enjoy it, I mostly use it for Beat Saber as exercise. I purchased around $120-$150 worth of games and I'm just really not playing any of them. I tend to still game on Xbox. I'm glad I started with the 2 and not the 3. Used Quest 2s can often be had for $75-150 on Marketplace, too. It might be worth someone trying that route first. And new purchasers should always try to get a referral link/code before they register the account - that extra store credit was so nice for me.

HornedDiggitoe

That’s terrible logic lol. A huge reason why people don’t regularly engage with VR is due to issues with the Quest 2 that were solved with the Quest 3. Had you gotten the Quest 3 instead, there would have been a much greater chance that you would actually use it regularly. I used to barely ever touch my VR headset, but ever since I got the Quest 3, I’ve been using it basically daily. The pancake lenses and passthrough are absolute game changers for usability, comfort and general enjoyment.

BlueFeathered1

It's certainly something to balance considerations and money about. However, the VR legs issue is reduced a bit with the Q3, as it's lenses are better. I had real eyestrain and queasiness problems with the Q2 due to the sweet spot issues. I still do with the Q3, but not as much. And the smaller form factor makes me feel less closed in and over-warm. A Meta sub is a consideration as you get a couple free games each month and other ones that come up to redeem in the store. I don't spend a lot on games yet have quite a bit of content to explore. I'd add that the starter price for both should factor in cost of a different head strap and battery pack, which are essential, in my opinion. Something I don't notice folks talking about is console gamers maybe fearing VR will make standard games not measure up anymore. That was actually part of my reluctance, because I didn't want to fall out of love with console gaming. However, they're more of a complement to each other. VR, like OP mentions, is tolerable for a couple hours, whereas console is a more long-term chill where you can actually eat and drink, lol. Console games are generally much longer and more complex, too. So it's an additional fun experience, not a replacement.

BluSkyler

I see your point, but to me it’s just not a great investment to buy outdated tech. If I were buying it for a kid or older person who will just be using it for limited amounts of time, or if I was someone buying it for a single use case like exercise, perhaps a Quest 2 could still be a good investment. But for the majority of people who are going to want access to the latest games, experiences, and mixed reality capabilities, I’d strongly advise them to wait to purchase the next iteration. VR is such a dynamic space right now, I wouldn’t want to be stuck with an outdated device…because trust me the few exclusives you’re hearing about now are just the tip of the iceberg. Indies will obviously still target the Quest 2 as it has a large user base, but the big games and experiences are going to start going the way of the Quest 3/Lite and once that starts there’s no going back. I’d give the Quest 2 another year and a half of relevance if they price the Quest 3 Lite right, before you start to hear Devs saying they’re going to be focusing exclusively on the Q3 line. In a way, it‘s a good thing as everyone wants bigger, better looking experiences, and in order to push the boundaries we’ve got to move forward.

_Ship00pi_

imo best games on quest are free. I spend most of my time in pop1. At this point if you are new to VR, get a Quest 3. If you don’t like it, Return it.

FenrisKokami

Buy quest 3 + years of future support + sail the seven seas to atleast try them, when you get the money buy them and use referrals.

Livestock110

If you buy Quest 3, sideload it!! And get Quest Games Optimiser. You'll have crazy high resolution and framerate with it. Most games are optimised for Quest 2, and the Q3 can push further. But you need the Games Optimiser sideload to achieve that

RevealQuirky1341

I just got a quest 3 but I have no clue how to use side load it?

Livestock110

Just go to [SideQuest setup page](https://sidequestvr.com/setup-howto) and use the Advanced Installer - it will download the app. Once you plug in the headset, the app shows you instructions on how to sideload. It shows a green tick each time you complete one. Hope that works!

truthiness-

I didn’t even try a quest 3. To me, quest 2 is a perfect intro to VR. Someone like me who has been relatively interested for a while but hasn’t wanted to spend a ton of money… quest 2 has been great. I fully understand that quest 3 is likely better in every regard. And I’m sure games are going to start being exclusive to it. Nothing wrong with that. But I’m not throwing $500 on something I have no idea if I’ll even enjoy or use. A PS5? Sure, I’ve had gaming consoles most my life. I know the value of a new console like that, with regards to my usage. To me that’s why the discounted quest 2 are perfect. Not because of some vague $300 worth of games, but because you’re not blowing a ton more money on something you’re not sure of.

BeatsLikeWenckebach

PS5 ? or PS4 + $300 worth of games ??

rileyrgham

It really isn't. The quest 2 is old tech. Get the 3.

NaturalSelecty

If you buy a Quest 2, don’t come back to this sub crying this next year when games aren’t getting released to the 2. If you buy a 2, you are knowingly buying a product that is nearing the end of its support cycle. The Quest 3 is better in every single way and as you all can see, we’re going to start receiving Q3 exclusives moving forward.

CodeMeDownn

Or you can get a Quest 3 and use Rookie sideloader to get almost every game for free ;) Some even work multiplayer

Hoenirson

The decision also sways more towards the Quest 2 if you already own a capable gaming PC, since the number of available games increases by alot

zenith654

The decision is actually very obvious if you completely change the decision

HornedDiggitoe

Heck no, as someone with a gaming PC, the Quest 3 is way better for it. The lenses and improved resolution make the PCVR games so much better. Additionally, in order to stream the gameplay from the PC to the Quest wirelessly, it requires a lot of CPU power for the processing. The Quest 2 CPU is too weak to do a good job for this application. This was massively improved with the Quest 3.

There are typically a 3 for $300-$350 on my marketplace.

MrEfficacious

Tons of Q2 for sale in my area, but not a single Q3 less than an hour drive away.

Substantial_Wing9225

The 3 is amazing

sus_planks

I would go with the quest 3 if you can afford it. Can't go wrong with the quest 2, either.

Threel3tt3rnam3

quest 3 is worth the jump. sadly i can only barely afford the quest 2 😭

jacksonjuncture

3

poofyhairguy

Quest 3 plus $30 credit by grabbing a referral from someone. Buy rare games with the $30 and put their referrals on the sub here for them. Rake in referral money (I have more than one less popular game that has paid for itself 2x) and spend that on more rare games. Put those referrals online. Take the money from that second wave and buy popular games like Beat Saber.

longjohnshortstop

Referrals are limited to 3 per game now.

RevealQuirky1341

I didn't know about the referral until I read earlier today about that. I just bought an Oculus 3 last night. What do I need to do to get the $30 referral?

ninjacat249

And because of the Quest 3 exclusive content you’ll end up regretting.

partysnatcher

Your premise hangs very much on the idea that VR == games and that more games == more fun. I think you'll find you are quite wrong about that.

VivekGoel

First check your IPD if its above 68 then Quest 3 is the way to go. The lenses on Quest 2 gave me blurry vision and headaches. Color passthrough is so much better and I love the new controllers as well.

dhs77

I bought a Quest 3 in January and although it is more pricey I think this will set me up for a few years in terms of VR and its been an awesome experience so far, you do have to buy an external 18w battery pack to improve the experience imo, but they're pretty cheap anyways. Unless you are absolutely wishing to play VR and on low budget go for the Q2, otherwise I fully recommend spending the extra on Q3, its just a better device from what ive read and obviously my experience is limited to the 3.

Broaster07

I chose the Q2 after my original Quest was no longer able to do what I wanted. I'm a casual gamer, so I'm happy with using the Rift wire from my Quest 1 to play my steam library for VR games and the Steam Link to play the rest in the visor for Big Screen play is nice. The only shortfall is VRChat in Quest mode. There are world and avatar limits. The upside is not having to spend the money on a new gaming PC to run SteamVR (and then probably migrate to an Index and maybe add full body tracking), as I'd rather not spend a few thousand on hardware for games just to show off.

Ill-Ad2009

Honestly I'd rather have a better VR experience and only get a few games. I'd be spending most of my time in VR chat and other free games/apps anyway.

AbysmalScepter

It's really not that hard of a choice unless you're buying it for like one or two games and won't want to play new games coming out in the future.

professor_vasquez

6 free months of quest+. That's a lot of free games for 6 months. And asgard's wrath 2 free. And better lenses, higher resolution etc. Q3 is the better choice IMO.

Sstfreek

The 3 makes the 2 absolutely worthless. I haven’t touched it in 6 months. And I never will ever again tbh

JorgTheElder

The Q2 is only the right choice for people cannot afford the Q3. The pancake lenses, 2x+ horsepower SOC, and the color passthrough are going to be mandatory for a good experience over the next 3 years. MR is going to be a big deal on the Quest platform and the lack of color passthrough on the Q2 is going to be a huge pain point. https://www.uploadvr.com/dont-buy-quest-2-anymore/ *Edit...* I want to make it clear that no one can tell others what headset is right for them. They have to do the research and make their own decisions. If you think the Q2 is the right headset for you, it obviously is, because it a subjective choice based on a ton of competing factors.

Doraz_

Quest 3 = Quest 2 + 300$ = Invest it in stocks = Put the. i. savings for retirement = Give them to charity Priorities 🤷

jsdeprey

I would rather have a 3 with a few of the best games

Cimme

Quest 3 is still worth it. And if you're spending 300 dollars on games, you'll eventually want to upgrade to a Quest 3 anyway. 🤷‍♂️

Hanza-Malz

The Quest 3, tbh. It's better in every aspect.

poinifie

Is it true that the 3d effect of the quest 3 is less than the 2? I remember people saying something about that in several threads when it first came out but never see anyone's opinion on it these days.

Goldenguo

I'm a light user of the quest 2 because with a disability there's not a lot I can play. I'd like to have the quest 3 but really the quest I have now is perfectly fine for my needs. I'd say if you can get a quest for cheap to sign up for that meta+ for a few more months to get a feel of what games you'd like

Oftenwrongs

1.  No it is not.  2.  No, it isn't.

jumbotron_deluxe

I have owned a quest 1 and now have a 3. I tell everyone that if you haven’t already owned a previous VR headset to go with quest 2. It’s much less of a punch in the bank account and a whole lot of fun. I only bought a 3 cause I already had any hours on quest 1 and knew I really enjoyed it

Bombniscience

Yeah but do you wanna play your games in 720p-equivalent? I literally only play one game regularly on my quest, but for whenever I try a new one it's good to know I'm getting the superior standalone experience

yosoyos

I just paid $140 for a second hand quest 2, so for me the decision was easy, it was that or $500 for a new quest 3 as there isn’t really a second hand market for them yet

Niconreddit

I'd wait for Quest 3s.

TheClassics

The 3 is worth the bump in cost

Anzai

I still just have the original Quest, but I use it to play steam VR games via virtual desktop, so I can’t really justify upgrading. VR games on steam are so much cheaper than the quest store, and better, that I don’t bother buying any of the native stuff.

Independent-Gear-700

Damn, what a take

Desertbro

As with any gaming or electronic content system, it takes a while to get used to using all the tools and services. I told my parents that playing the VR games was simple, but learning the Oculus/Meta content management system was like learning to use a smartphone the first time. ***Complicated and Frustrating\~!!!*** Eventually you learn where things are, and what works, and what doesn't, and compile your list of system design flaws you hate with a passion. Even with only a dozen images or videos in your files, why can't you just click ONE BUTTON to view the next one, like any slide-viewer made in the last 100 years? WTF?!!??!

jumpybean

No it’s not. Besides, pay $60 and get the year game subscription if you want more games than you are willing to buy on the Quest 3.

monkey_bongo

The major issue is you are paying for software support. For the Quest 2, I would expect another 1 year before new updates and features are no longer supported. For the Quest 3, you would be getting 3 years of support.

UrWifesFriend92

Advancing tech stuff like VR just go with what’s new. It’s not like an IPhone where it’s the same shit every year

Bright_Eyes83

the difference is bigger than it looks on paper. the quest 3 is really a device that looks and feels good to the average consumer, where even the 2 still has the "early tech" feel

IamNotHereForYou

Quest 3 is way better.

Hollow3ddd

TL;DR - The more you pay the better you get.  But spend within your range

Sheikashii

Quest 3 no doubt. You can do more with it AND it looks better. No one really needs every single quest game at the same time. You can get a quest 3 and all the free games and save up for a game every 2 months while watching movies and stuff

pixxelpusher

If you’re happy with the current generation of games then Quest 2 is fine. But less new games will be supported so Quest 3 could be the better option. From what we’ve seen over the last few weeks the next gaming showcase will be huge, and more Quest 3 focused.

schoolisuncool

I bought the quest 2 because it is only 200.00 now, and then 2 weeks later I bought the quest 3 from someone on marketplace. The quest 2 was blurry for me and hard to really enjoy. The quest 3 really fixed that. No blur at all and things now I look how I think they are intended to.

AMDDesign

As a Q2 owner, dont. Its cool and novel at first but you really cant do any serious gaming with it. As a standalone the hardware sucks, and when connect to pc the resolution sucks. Was very excited to use it with Elite dangerous, tried it out and I couldnt even see the stars... they were too small to be rendered by the quest.

Aheg

The problem with Quest 2 and PC is that it's not plug and play. You have to change some settings in Meta Quest Link app and then in Oculus Debug Tool in order for quality of image to be great. I am playing mostly sim racing games so quite heavy on graphics side and I had no problem doing it on 3070(now on 4070s). But for Quest 2 to be good for PC VR you need some time to adjust things. OpenComposite and OpenXR Toolkit are your friends for PC VR on top of the right settings in Quest Link/ODT. I can't even imagine how real it must feel with something like 4090 and Quest 3.

AMDDesign

Yeah, I did the hacks and stuff, but you can only get so much out of the resolution of it. I got the stars in Elite from being completely absent, to shimmering pixels (depending on the angle)

Difficult_Ad_2934

I have both. Had the quest 2 for 2 years before I went to the quest 3. The quest 3 is great. I only play a few games on it so it’s totally worth it rather than $300 worth of games I could probably get a refund on within 2 hours of play.

PsychoDog_Music

Problem is, Quest 2 will eventually be made obsolete, similar to 1. Quest 3 has much more life in it as well

itzBart_

Dont even think about gettin old ones. Got 2 and its collectin dust nowadays. Got few errors which made me to drop IT for a while

JustinPSVR

My nephew is currently saving for a headset and wants to start using VR. But he can't spend a lot of money. I recommended quest 2 to him because I'm very happy with it myself, but I also have a PSVR2. Now after the new announcements like batman and alien I'm not sure if quest 2 is still a good choice. Maybe it's better to wait for the quest 3 Lite? On the other hand, there is enough content for quest 2. And there will certainly be some more games to come

-IamPeacock-

I wouldn't recommend a Q2 to anyone anymore. Either you buy a Q3 or wait for the Q3 lite to release (probably end this year).

MajorAlone_

Quest 3 + Meta Quest+ (game pass) and you’re the king, Quest 3 is awesome

sora2210

I have a Quest 2 and I'm happy with it. I play it every time I can and doesn't need a Quest 3 to enjoy my games.

ClassOf16

Wait, people actually buy their quest games?

nclrsn4ke

Why bying games on quest 2 if you have qloader?

Top_Usual9463

I have both and q3 is far better. Buying a quest 2 now is risky as although cheap they are stopping to drop compatibility to the newer games that come out. With my q3 I also got 6 months of quest+ which along with the 2 free games a month has an excellent collection of 10 games (like a mini gamepass). It’s also fantastic for watching films and TV on which although can do on the quest 2 the mixed reality makes a huge difference. https://preview.redd.it/yzyn97wsssyc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50c0b605b3ed427116edf942974fa988949ce861

deadringer28

I am sure someone has said alkmost this exact thing but....With Quest 3 you get Asgard's Wrath and till June you still get 6 months of Meta + for free too so there is another 12 games you will get with your Quest 3 plus access to the other games in the library that will rotate each month. Yes these are not yours to keep but I have a feeling this will remain worth it for $8 a month after the 6 months ends. Another option is to get the Quest 3 and also a 2 and then you can play locally with family and friends. Local multiplayer has been some of the best gaming for me in years.

Dry-Holiday-2858

Well, in this case, for beginners who want to find out what VR is, I would generally recommend a used helmet that will not lose value if you want to get rid of it in a month (no matter what the reason is: you don’t like VR or you want to upgrade). but quest 3 is a helmet that will slightly reduce the threshold for entry and inconvenience.

m3551xh

I think byung a quest 2 at this point isn't a great idea. The quest 3 will be supported for years, quest 2 probably not so much. Also quest 3 is a mixed reality headset, quest 2 is strictly VR. I would spent the extra and get the Q3

Korahn

The new Batman game will be Q3 only and I think there's at least a few other games that are Q3 exclusives already too

JasonAsano0412

Yeah, I own both as well. Everytime I put on the Quest 2 I feel such a downgrade.

Korahn

With games starting to come oit that won't be supported on Quest 2, perhaps the Q3 (or whatever lite version they supposedly have coming out) would be best if getting into it now

perez67

I get the logic, but I'd still get the Quest 3. It's amazing how much of a game changer it has been in terms of game play. The Quest 2 feels like a potato to me now (my kids use the 2). I just LOVE mixed reality games and the color passthrough is a must along with the better lens.

Admirable_Sale3860

I have to disagree. Having both, I'd rather have a quest 3 and few games than a quest 2 and $300 worth of games at this point. It's a better device in almost every way

clayton240

I’m new to VR and the choice was simple. I bought the Quest 3 and love it. VR gaming wasn’t difficult to get used to. I’ve logged 40+ hours into games after only like 2 months lol. I get what the post is implying but this ain’t really a new concept. If you’re a gamer you’ll go for the higher specs every time.

Snoozie-

Regardless, just buy the 3. We don't need to be setting newcomers up for disappointment when all the biggest games coming this year are Quest 3 exclusive already. While the Quest 2 is still a great headset, the 3 fixed almost every minor issue with it. I also wouldn't want someone trying it out for the first time to be disappointed with the shortcomings of the 2.

antleonardi01

Just get a quest 3 + the game pass. You'll have more than enough stuff to play.

Electronic_Usual_373

Also dont forget there are coming Games only for Quest 3 from now on.

starkium

Always go quest 3

FLC2312

I've got both, and no it's not a tough choice. Quest 3 is a no brainer, forget the Quest 2 even exists at any price.

MrEfficacious

Lol the Quest 2 hate is strong.

FLC2312

The truth is out there...

Huge_Equivalent979

Sorry, I just can't recommend buying the 2 in 2024. It's just too outdated.
