OctoFloofy

That's clearly 8k. Your monitor is just bad.

MoCapBartender

I tried playing Crysis last night, but it's completely fucked with expired DRM... I either have to jump through a lot of hoops (including buying Warhead), or buy the remastered edition.

BlackWaltz03

Ironic how pirates can give you a better experience in such situations.

Eyy_b0ssxDDD

Or pirate it?

Canadiangamer117

😬 agreed afraid so

norketra

Looks like 14k on mine.

[deleted]

I want a persistent wrist watch

BlackWaltz03

Kinda hard since not all games have wrists. And some games even use the wrist watch idea for their own interface so that might interfere with that (e.g. Walking dead)

[deleted]

just let me move it up the arm no big deal

devedander

How far up? I mean Star Wars Galaxy edge eats up most of your forearm

[deleted]

just increase a band radius so it's on top really guys it's easy as fuck

devedander

This pretty much has to happen on a per game basis then depending on how hands and arms are implemented in any particular game. It's one of those things that's easy to say "You just fix it like this" until you realize the vast number of edge cases you have to account for.

[deleted]

this 100% would NOT need to be on a per game basis, it would be OS level feature. it would be just an overlay. it does not matter AT ALL how hands are implemented in any particular game, because OS always knows about your controller and you always hold at least one controller in your ACTUAL hand and it's pretty much always the same. OS can always extrapolate a virtual arm from a controller. there are only 2 problems: 1. if the watch obscures the in-game wrist UI - solution is letting user move the watch up and down the arm - fucking easy 2. the in game arm model obscures the watch - solution is letting user scale the watch 3d model up and down (if you are lazy as fuck) or letting user increase just the diameter of watch band and the watch face stays the same just moves with the band (if you have a drop of professionalism) - also fucking easy OS is 100% capable of saving the different watch settings (literally 2 fucking variables) for different apps there are no edge cases

devedander

First of all those are both edge cases. Secondly anyone who ever says here are no edge cases is pretty much guaranteed to be wrong. What if there is a game where both your arms are covered in puzzles you have to respond to rapidly and you can't have your vision of them blocked in any way? And I don't even have to be able to think of an edge case for there to be one.

[deleted]

those two are not the edge cases, they are very common cases, would've been stupid to not take them into account. it's basic settings. any other edge case doesn't matter because if you can't move the watch up-down and resize the band so it's comfortable, than you will have to just toggle off the wrist watch for that specific app. which would be absolutely fine.

ExtremelyDerpyDoge

You ever heard of LIV? It literally does just this EZ. It’d be easier than you’re all making it out to be

devedander

Liv puts a watch on your arm?

ExtremelyDerpyDoge

You can add one if I remember correctly. Just like how you add twitch chat.

Thritzer

You have 2 arms dont you?

devedander

So this is something that has to be set up on a per game basis? Which arm, how far up, how big the band is etc? Seems like not the easiest solution to impliment.

itsmechaboi

All of the games I play use the wrist. But I agree, it is annoying to have to check the menu or passthrough.

[deleted]

FiveManDown

Left arm… weirdo.

CapableHair429

In-game bling watch like Flava-Flav...problem solved, no need for wrists. \*\*Did I just date myself??\*\*

[deleted]

I got so used to have a mii band on a wrist I sometimes flick it in vr just to stare on nothing

HyperFireBlaze

Nice sneak flex

haz_again

hardly a flex

Lordoffunk

Maybe he just got it. Give him time to get swoll.

DOOManiac

This exact thing already exists for Rift too.

[deleted]

wow really even more questions

mareksoon

It works, but also doesn’t, because your wrist isn’t in the same place in every game. I shared some examples in this earlier post: https://reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/rbiobc/_/hnxt342/?context=1

[deleted]

idk, controller is doesn't seem like a difficult task, they already have persistent fitness bar hovering everywhere

mareksoon

You are correct. Time near the persistent fitness bar makes sense. I was commenting on accurate alignment of the persistent wrist watch, specifically, since position of wrist isn’t the same in every game as my images in that older comment show.

[deleted]

I'm telling it doesn't matter because controller is in your hand, just align the wrist watch with the controller. I don't care if it's not perfectly aligned with the specific game hand. it's not a problem at all. if it breaks immersion or smth toggle it off for that game

SvenViking

Good news, [that’s exactly what they did.](https://imgur.com/a/O7Uqgm1)

[deleted]

oh, nice which update?

SvenViking

I’m still talking about the PC Oculus Home implementation. It was added years ago.

cortex0

PokerStarsVR gives you a wrist watch and I find myself looking at it all the time. Very useful.

[deleted]

There is one in experimental features

[deleted]

I'm still on v35, couldn't find, is it in v37 already or in PTC?

Diggity_Dave

Man do I love this idea!

ABHIisNOTme

I think the rift home has one, when I linked my quest to the PC I got an option to enable it

Mataskarts

I've got a mod for beat saber to have a clock in-game and it's amazing, love whoever made it \^\^

Barph

Counters+ allows you to place a clock in game any location

Mataskarts

Not sure which it was, I just downloaded one and it's there when you look up in-game, though not in view unless you actually wanna see it. It's the perfect position \^\^

BlackWaltz03

I mainly play standalone, so I haven't tried pcvr outside a quick session of euro Truck simulator 2. In pcvr, does the wristwatch work in game? How does it work in games with no hands?

D2_Lx0wse

It disappears in every game

WiseEditor9667

you can pin it so you it shows up in game but it's kinda funky and doesn't line up with the game's wrists

Parking_Ad_3922

If your playing Thrill of the fight the clock on the wall is telling the correct time.

BlackWaltz03

Is there a clock at the stadium?

KodeNameKRAK

you can get a mod for beat saber that puts a clock at the top so thats something

BlackWaltz03

No I mean for ALL games. I thought of having oculus move as the clock since it shows up in all games.

KodeNameKRAK

Yeah i know what you meant but one game is better than none at least

[deleted]

Any sort of time notification honestly. Tired of getting out of a tiresome job to get into VR just to freak out and wonder if I spent too long in Vr

stoopidjonny

Just hit the menu button on the left controller and the time will be one the bottom left of the menu.

Destroyeroyer2

Maybe you could set an alarm on your phone untill oculus adds a better solution?

ariolander

[Time Perception and Dilation in VR](https://researchvr.podigee.io/12-researchvr-011). VR really does fuck with your perception of time.

oculus

Maybe it's "time" we "move" on this idea 🦗🌽

BlackWaltz03

Hey r/Oculus some people asked if you can make the clock have a toggle within the app. It seems some people just want to get lost in time while exercising.

BlackWaltz03

Oh my. Are you THE OFFICIAL OCULUS? Oh my... If you are, can I get a little reward for my idea on my quest account? Hahaha Free Medal of Honor perhaps? Hehehe I could use one as a gift for my father's birthday this weekend. We played MoH on the PS1 and he would love that. Any gift at all? Hehehe he Update: Oculus actually gave me a gift! Just in time for my father's birthday! Not exactly MoH itself, but something just as good. Thanks Oculus!

whithil

This should actually just allow us to dock any android widgets we wanted.Just like regular android does. With some Apps offering their own widgets too. Although... I don't think u/oculus would confirm nor deny any plans on adding such feature even if it was in their roadmap. But Is there a official channel for suggestions?

BlackWaltz03

This. Imagine a Spotify overlay, a messenger overlay, a clock overlay, a discord overlay, etc.

[deleted]

Resident Evil 4 VR implemented time beautifully. I could check my (Leon's) virtual wristwatch whenever I wondered what time it was.

BlackWaltz03

Yup. I wish all games consistently had this. But since they don't, I propose this.

[deleted]

I think your idea is brilliant. It seems like not too heavy a lift for the Oculus development team to add a digital clock to the virtual controllers.

smack323

doesnt it bother you if its noon, but in the game its 1am and your watch is wrong?

[deleted]

I would have preferred the RE 4 virtual wristwatch to use 24 hour time like most of the freakin' world.

smack323

yeah, but that still doesnt help your game time being different from real time.

scroogemcbutts

I've always just assumed they don't add that to keep you immersed and not out of VR. It's a lot harder to gain potential valuable data points if you stop playing because you had real life get in the way. I've loved playing my oculus, but it scares me what a warped mind like zuck will do with it.

BlackWaltz03

That's why I propose they add it in the oculus move. The oculus move already "encourages" you to stop the moment you reach your calorie and time goal. Oculus move already removes some immersion. How worse can a clock be?

koalafiedkandy

Do you recommend Oculus move?

BlackWaltz03

I use it everyday for my exercise, but I can't speak to its accuracy as I have no other fitness tracker at all to verify.

mattcoz2

Time and battery indicator would be great. Basically just have a status bar like on the top of your phone.

Downtown-Sea3412

Can you please add Fitbit to the approved fitness bands?

AlphaShadow66

This would be so nice

Ken_Quake

This would be great

metainsider

That's a good idea. thank you for sharing.

deftware

> What are you trying to tell me, that I can know real-world time while still in VR? > No Neo, I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, you won't have to.

MurkLurker

I would love an in-game clock, but until then a lot of us have Alexas, or googles, or siris or bixbys or even the quest voice commands that can respond to a "Hey (whatever), what time is it?"

Failsaafe

4k 1920x1080 screenshot

KittyTheSavage1

Ah yes, beatsaber at midnight.

czyzczyz

If anyone's listening, please also let us reposition the oculus move overlay further out of our field of view. I'd be positioning it on the South Pole as I hate having it intrude in the periphery and want to only see it when I consciously choose to look way down.

Twinpower13

Bigbrain

DemoEvolved

While you are in there how about adding a headset battery % remaining as well

BlackWaltz03

True that. I must say I forgot about battery life being a problem ever since I bought a 10000 mah power bank and a power bank velcro strap.

UltraChip

It'd definitely be helpful - I always appreciate VR games/experiences that find a way to incorporate a real-world clock so I don't have to back out to check the time (Elite: Dangerous and Aircar are the two that come to mind, although I'm sure there's others).

Missing_Space_Cadet

CaSiNoS dOnT hAvE cLoCks

ILoveRegenHealth

You wouldn't download a Blackjack Table, would you?

NotreallyCareless

"Hey google, what's the time ?"

YeomaTV

Really clever idea, I approve. Want it to be optional though, sometimes you want to really get lost in there.

BlackWaltz03

Yeah like a toggle maybe.

Farncone

You would absolutely have to have it as an option. It would bug the hell out of me if it was there all the time - I;m not alone on this. I want to be immersed, not pestered with a clock nagging me what time it is constantly.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Drited

Perhaps you're joking, but just in case you can press the oculus button once (not hold it down) to see a digital clock in the bottom left of the menu that appears when you do that. Holding the oculus button down recentres the environment.

SpoonyDinosaur

Doesn't that little spinning icon appear in *every* game when you recenter? That would potentially work, have the time also appear in a corner for the second it takes to recenter-- you only need to glance at it to know the time.

Drited

Well yes but the existing the digital clock on the oculus menu also appears in every game when you press the oculus button. It goes away when you press a second time so would only need to appear for a second if that's what you're looking for.

Thomas8864

If you haven’t mod beatsaber yet, do it. It makes the game 20x better

S-Go

Seconded. I constantly have to ask Siri the time, on my HomePod.

Mr12i

It's faster just to press the Oculus button

FiveManDown

In what scenario do you need to know the time so fast? That’s some pretty crazy time concerns you have.

Mr12i

I don't have that need at all. But it's still faster to press the Oculus button than it is to ask to your speaker.

S-Go

It's faster to pause the game and exit out of it ?

Farncone

You don't exit out of it. You press it to pause the game and reference the toolbar.

S-Go

and that's faster than continuing to play and just using my voice?

mattcoz2

Yes, pressing a button is faster than using your voice.

[deleted]

Wait. So you don’t exit the game after?

whithil

Well, yes... The home menu only pauses the game, you can quickly check or adjust anything and go back to whatever you were playing by pressing the Oculus button again to un-pause.

SpoonyDinosaur

Yes... It's maybe *1-2* seconds to pause and un-pause. Siri, Alexa, Google; it's at *least* 3-5 seconds as you have to say the unlock command, ask "what time is it," then wait for a response. If you don't want to stop playing that makes sense, but pausing is undoubtedly faster.

ILoveRegenHealth

I think that's a good idea, and much better than clicking the Oculus button. I know it's just one button click, but looking down or up is even faster and more effortless. It really couldn't hurt at all adding a basic clock.

MisterCheesy

Yes!

[deleted]

[удалено]

BlackWaltz03

Ah yes... Alexa... Because everyone has that. And an alarm timer is set at a specific point to stop. I don't want to stop. I just want to be passively aware of the time. And kind of hard to hear Alexa or an alarm if you have earphones or amvr earmuffs on your quest.

FiveManDown

Alexa, Siri, Google.. most people have one if they have a phone.

[deleted]

Not all and you shouldn’t need a phone worth £100’s for the time when you’re wearing a £300/400 computer on your face. Seems pretty basic

FiveManDown

You don’t need any of this, you press the oculus button and you see the time….

Carp_

I have a Google voice speaker in my Oculus play area so I can ask the time without interrupting play. I also use it to set alarms.

-Swampthing-

That’s exactly what I do with my Alexa. Just ask what time is.

Gnri

ClockMod if you're using the move overlay specifically for beat saber

[deleted]

There is already a wrist watch, in experimental features

a_good_human

I mean if you mod beat saber you can add clock

iqbalsn

I just want to change my clock. Moved from Asia to Europe, cant change my Quest clock whatsoever. Like really?

Library-Background

You could just check your watch through the nose hole, it takes 2 seconds

BlackWaltz03

Not all people wear watches, and people buy special face interface to block that nose hole.

matrixloader

Yeah, I'm surprised ocul...meta hasn't added a clock yet.

LinkmerFN

Wouldn’t looking up and seeing the big ass oculus move thing break immersion anyway?

BlackWaltz03

Still less immersion breaking than pressing the oculus button and have an entire interactive menu pop up in the middle of your field of view. Oculus move might slightly break immersion, but it's passive -- you just look up and it's there. If you're already breaking immersion keeping track of your calories and vr time, you might as well also know the time.

iceberg10011

Can't you just press the oculus button?

BlackWaltz03

That pauses the game and breaks immersion fully. Oculus move allows you to just look up and know the time.

iceberg10011

Won't the clock break the immersion fully too? And it takes but a second or two to check the time lol

BlackWaltz03

If you press the oculus button, you consciously, deliberately, and actively do it, and it brings up an entire interactive panel in the middle of your field of view that also pauses the game. Oculus move is already an existing feature that shows your calorie and vr time tracker passively when you simply look up. Adding a clock there would simply give more info for the little immersion it breaks. Oculus move breaks some immersion; pressing the oculus breaks all immersion.

Emaculates

Double tap the home button and ask. That's how I find out

BlackWaltz03

That's three actions which break immersion. Looking up doesn't break immersion as much.

MatthewvdV

BE SAB

thejanuaryfallen

Its true! So much time passes in Beat Saber, would be nice to not have to peek outside my headset!

ATurtletoTrust

How about double tapping a certain side of the headset(other side for Passthrough)? A little pop-up could appear somewhere on screen for a couple of seconds, showing the time, date, and charge levels of the headset and controllers.

5c0ttd

I just double click the Oculus button and ask the time. This works well for me. Although, it can definitely break the immersion depending upon what you're playing I suppose.

[deleted]

This needs to be optional. I dislike looking at the clock when playing games, and especially don't need it on-screen at all times.

BlackWaltz03

Oculus Move is optional.

[deleted]

Yes, but I'd like to use the Move overlay *without* the clock shown.

BlackWaltz03

Fair point. I'll try to reply to Oculus' comment on my post.
