I'm not sure if this will actually resolve drift issue. In the drift scenario, it's sending the wrong "signal" because of dust and such. This one is more like an improvement on scrolling and sliding features within apps. But I'm not entirely sure, so it might perhaps resolve drifts too - if someone knows the answer, I would like to know
I would imagine it would prevent a slow drift as it would prevent the controller from accepting a small amount of input. But, give it some time and we will find out. If it does prevent drift, that will be good, however it would also prevent small intentional movements which wouldn't be ideal either.
This should help with drift too. My DS4 controllers have very mild drift on one of the sticks and Steam Input's deadzone feature has fixed it pretty much entirely.
On my original Oculus the right controller would cause drifting issues when scrolling through menus such as the Oculus store. A lot of times it would continue scrolling when I did not want it. Almost like a hysteresis. The ability to increase your dead zone took care of that problem for me.
I had this issue a week ago, googling seemed to indicate that electronic contact cleaner can fix the issue and that is what Oculus Support also recommend. In my case, it worked. Try that.
Bad advice. While that brand does make electrical contact cleaner, you really do not want to be spraying their typical product inside electronics blindly.
It is not a lubricant, and it can leave gunk in the worst places. There's also a slight chance it will have an adverse reaction on rubber or plastics, which you won't know because you sprayed it inside the controller without care.
"It worked for me" just means it didn't cause any problems you're aware of.
Yeah, I'd steer clear of WD40 unless your thumbstick is corroded in place. OTOH, I think that a little Ballistol might work better if lubrication is at all necessary for the sticks. Ballistol is proven to be fine with all kinds of plastic.
I'm sorry i did not know that thanks for clearing that up for me, i'll do some more research and i'll steer clear of WD-40. I really thought it helped but i guess it causes more problems than it solves.
No worries. WD40 is amazing stuff, so it's pretty normal to think it's amazing for everything. The thing is it probably did help your problem, temporarily.
Yeah my thumbsticks haven't been drifting for a while now but its only a matter of time. I'll do some research on what's the best way to stop drifting. Thanks for the warning about WD40.
If the "it's a piece of dust in the sensor" theory is true, then a can of keyboard duster is the easiest bet to move it around. Failing that, spraying some IPA into it while the controller is off is safe (but is also just going to move the dust somewhere else, just like wd40 did or a duster would.) If you use IPA, make sure to let it dry, because like water, it's a bit conductive (but it dries much faster and cleanly.) You can buy a can of 99.9% IPA for like $15, it's a fantastic tool.
If that theory isn't true, then there's probably nothing you can do anyways. I read it might be a loose widget, but the controllers are hard to disassemble so I wouldn't risk it.
If you have a drift issue, here is probably the real fix:

quest 2 controller drift was one of the entire reasons I stopped playing vr
I couldn't play any game without just walking off a cliff or just constantly walking backward, I couldn't even use the menus without it constantly scrolling down. I'm so glad they made this fix and I cannot wait for it to come to my quest so I can enjoy questing again
The only thing that the V37 update did for me was disable charging with my computers, so I only get 1.5 hours of gameplay before needing to plug into the wall
Wdym? What makes you think they did? Mine charges on V37 if I connect it to my PC. Maybe a dead port on the PC or something? (unless you are playing PCVR games, in which case I'd say... Weird 😬)
I was able to charge the quest on my laptop via any USB cable. Ever since the update, I USBDeview shows 0 mA charge on my laptop and desktop PC on ALL usb ports. I plug it in overnight and the battery percentage never goes up. Big sad :(
I had this exact issue, just as you describe it and bought a can of electric contact cleaner for few bucks. Take out battery, spray it into the thumbstick, let it dry for a few minutes. The thumbstick worked perfectly again.
I used this can, but I saw some cheaper ones for more like $6 too:

Nothing wrong with Sidequest. OP just baited upvotes and then edited their comment to brigade on Sidequest, which is definitely something a normal person would do 🤷♂️
A new feature on the Oculus Quest platform, that lets you configure a small area of the thumbstick, who's input should be ignored. This is useful for thumbsticks with hardware wear and tear, that makes the thumbstick give small unintended inputs, when they aren't actually being engaged.
:O I LITERALLY JUST TOOK APART MY CONTROLLER trying to fix my stick drift. (resulting in me not being able to put it back together) So now I have to wait for one to be in stock again. YOURE TELLING ME I COULDVE JUST WAITED A DAY FOR THE UPDATE??
Does anyone know if you can play VR chat on PC with hand tracking?
I did a quick search yesterday before but all I could find were Reddit text posts which helped to...some degree. I went all the way down to taking out the metal casing the stick sensor resides in. Then pry it open to remove each little plastic bridge holding the stick in place. The cause of the drift is that one plastic bridge loses adhesive causing the stick to be loose. Unfortunately, I find it impossible to have enough space to get the trigger button back inside while also connecting the ribbon cables. The controller just won't fit back properly again.

Sorry for the crappy image quality, but that's the screenshot quality you get when using the media sync feature in the Oculus app.
But right thumbstick tends to jump back up a bit, after pulling down. For example when scrolling down, it would jump back up a bit after letting go of the thumbstick. After setting up a bit of deadzone, this doesn't happen anymore.
I’ve been waiting for this one; one Oculus-branded controller of eight I own has forward drift.
It’s such a simple fix for a very common issue, too. Heck, we had software solutions for joystick drift/centering *in the ‘80s* yet here we are coming up 40 years later where it’s still an issue on many different platforms.
Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for MRC promised back in v35 released in early December! They (support) say everyone has it; we don’t.
Meanwhile, one of my Quest headsets has some of the v37 features, another has less, and a third has none.
I get why they roll these out slowly but it’s also BS making us wait some unknown time to get a new feature we eagerly want.
I get the complaint, but Oculus has already added incredibly many requested features *after the fact*, and they continue to do so. Sure, we have to wait for now, but so much requested stuff has rolled out to everyone by now; passthrough, hand tracking, fitness tracking, wireless PCVR, AppLab, thumstick direction adjustment, space sense, just to name a few.
They are so, but they are aiming to do it right. To many tech manufacturers add more and more stuff without ensuring the original function is still optimized. Oculus seems to really want to make sure none of these things make the platform worse, and that takes a lot of careful effort and testing.
I've just set this up and will see what effect it has. I didn't even know what 'deadzone' meant.
Re: stick drift. I had the issue and watched all the youtubes which basically boil down to using compressed air and/or WD40 contact fluid on the sticks and, as a last result, taking it apart via instructional video, applying the same, and putting it back together.
Just wanted to report that I have (who knows how temporarily but it was two weeks ago) fixed my drift using [this little device](https://www.amazon.com/camera-air-blower/s?k=camera+air+blower) that I have for cleaning camera lenses. It's a cheap and very handy solution. It's just a hand pump that creates compressed air but without the need for a can.
Its not good. its just a bandaid.
i just watched a video about replacing the thumbstick. and man it seems to take a complete disassembly of the controller to get to the thumbstick. the replacement itself is easy. change one stick with a ribbon cable. but its hard to get into.
i saw that in my settings aswell, i myself havent had any problems with v37, aside from stationary guardian boundaries no longer yelling at me when i get too close
Five years ago people used to say that the thumbsticks are "redundant", because we have "roomscale". I'm glad that these days Oculus recognizes thumbsticks as integral part of the movement mechanics.
The dead zone(maximum setting) alleviates the drift a little bit but in a second my controller battery was dead. New update is a hoax when it talks about multitasking to me
This is a lifesaver, my right controller has awful drift and my left one just started drifting too
I'm not sure if this will actually resolve drift issue. In the drift scenario, it's sending the wrong "signal" because of dust and such. Developers should add their own deadzones too. Relying on axis values close to zero is not a good idea.
Small intentional movements can be made by just walking
This should help with drift too. My DS4 controllers have very mild drift on one of the sticks and Steam Input's deadzone feature has fixed it pretty much entirely.

It’s a short lived solution.

Did you just say oil? Yeah no. You’re gonna ruin the controller that way.
You can check for Oculus RMA. I sent a video for a clue, then I got my both oculus controllers replaced for free.

how long until it started drifting?
Less than a week

I did that and it took them 3 months just to tell me I can't get a replacement

I use this to fix Joycon drift on my Switch and key chattering on my keyboard too. It's an awesome product.
Thanks for the tip! Will definitely have to try it out.
fyi this is called snapback
Thanks!

This was soooo needed, I've been through so many Oculus controllers over the years that got drift. Good stuff!
Did they fix the screen blur? Or do we need to wait for v38 to fix it and break something else? Its gotten scarry to go online and be forced updates

V35 also had a thumbstick recalibration option for the forward direction V37 has a new option for deadzone and range
Damn. You are correct my bad
I just want to know when the home environment teleporting will come out!
seriously, like why even announce it if we cant do it from the start. Makes no sense.
what is it
I'm with you I don't understand what it does.

Cool, mines only a month old so not there yet. I appreciate the info
pov: you don't feel like updating your oculus
Why not?
bad blurred image + chromatic aberration errors 🤡👍🏻
Chrom ab was fixed, just no anti aliasing, so edges of things might look a bit rough 😕.
Had to throw in calibration so it wouldn't bug us. You catch our drift?

To what degree did you take it apart? I've taken mine apart a couple times and there are some pretty good guides online to reassemble it.
I did a quick search yesterday before but all I could find were Reddit text posts which helped to...some degree. I went all the way down to taking out the metal casing the stick sensor resides in. Does this help at all? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PYiUcXwBxtk https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vrYdLEpRSLY
Yeah it did a bit , thank you 🥧
I will do that. Also how do you fix controller drift it is driving me insane

i've had this feature since early v36
I thought oculus skipped v36?
🤣
i mean the version before v37
Does the thumbstick angle one mean that I won't start going backwards when I aim up in onward, pavlov etc?
No, that setting changes which direction on your controller is forward.
As a Quest 1 user with some slight deadzone issues, this is great!
I wish I had this 4 months ago. Still waiting on a working controller.
Does this calibrate both controllers only right controller has drift
You can calibrate each controller individually!

I've been struggling with a slight drift on my left controller, so this will come in handy.

Yes

Ill have to try this as my left thumbstick has started to lag at times or make it seem like there is a dead zone. Tough to explain. Its weird
