socialdeviant620

Dude is saying to ask someone about them getting on the plane, but seems to not know that no matter what, once the door closes, that's it. No amount of "pwetty pwease" changes that. That's why the employee isn't rushing off to ask anyone. Best thing to do from there is ti stay calm and try to squeeze onto the next available flight, and hope they don't charge you for it.

just_anotha_fam

Seriously. Like, dude, was this your first time flying??

jamkey2222

Uhhh... he "paid a lot of money" for Spirit tickets. It may very well be his first time flying.

Blanket_monsters

Literally dozens of dollars

RichardPryor1976

Probably

MajorDonkeyPuncher

And when the guy realizes that, guess who he’s gonna be talking to to find him a flight and hopefully avoid charges.

Turbulent_Crow7164

The gate agent is the “somebody” to ask lol.

MotherSupermarket532

My husband did once ask nicely and got a door reopened but it was because the connecting flight was late and he knew like a dozen people on the connecting flight were on the second flight because they were all going together (and it was the last flight of the day so the airline would have to put up a dozen people) he was just the fastest to get there.

Dude-Man-Bro-Guy-1

Just recently, at LAX, they reopened the door when I got to the gate like 90 seconds after they closed it. The person in front of me in the TSA line sent a stroller through the x-ray. But it fell out of the bin and got jammed inside the machines outgoing conveyor. So since my bin was already partially inside of it, I had to sit there for like 40 minutes while the TSA agents tried to get it unjammed. When I jogged up to the gate, the lady asked, "Why are you late?" and you could tell she was kind of annoyed. But when I explained what happened in the nicest, most apologetic tone I could muster, she let me in without much hesitation, but did say, "we normally don't do this." This guy is literally antagonizing the sole person who could help him. I will never understand people like this whose first response is to be a belligerent dickhead.

WodensEye

What about “pwetty pwease mother fucker!”?

SpecialistBowl2216

I was 2 minutes late ONCE...I was told the attendant has a 10 minute discretion to either allow you in or not. I don't know if it's true...and...i wasn't mad, it was my fault.

Georgiaonmymindtwo

“pwetty pwease” That’s not the language he was using.

ProperBoots

No, I won't "ax" somebody, sir. I am the one who is "axed" by others.

Lucky-Scientist4873

He’s saying to “axe somebody” which is a threat

treemu

His accent makes it sound like he's telling him to "ex somebody" which isn't much better.

Ninajbott

He’s saying “ask somebody” because they told him it was closed before making any calls, also ‘axe somebody’ is to fire somebody, meaning they loose their job.

socialdeviant620

Wild. I was just at LAX last weekend, I got there 2 hours early and I had no issues getting to my flight on-time, nor did anyone else on our full flight. This sounds like a them problem, not an airline problem.

GamerGirlLex77

Good to know it’s not a total zoo of an airport all the time. I usually fly out of Burbank to avoid LAX.

hilarioustrainwreck

Once I’m inside LAX, things are chill. It’s the process of getting to LAX and getting out of LAX that seems to have gone from bad to worse. Like you have to walk super far away to get a rideshare? Idk.

Fluffy_Mark_9314

I think there’s a shuttle that takes you from the terminal to the rideshare lot, but it’s still a pain in the ass

GabeLorca

Yes, but ever since they banned ride share from picking up there things are so so much better. Other shuttles, public transport etc operate better and on time. Ride share was causing all those issues and the new system works great.

orngckn42

My favorite is when you have a gate change. Oh, you think you're leaving from Tom Bradley? Absolutely not. Now walk to Terminal 5, b**ch.

DesiArcy

Me too. The only time I’ve been through LAX is for international flights.

tonypizzachi

Having flown into and out of LAX dozens of times, I would say it's generally just fine.

Anon-Connie

I fly out of lax all the time with precheck. Honestly from curb to gate only takes me 15 minutes max.

Papa_PaIpatine

Bitch you're flying Spirit and talking about "all that money you spent". The fuck?

socialdeviant620

I knew I'd made it in life when I was comfortable to completely avoid Frontier and Spirit Airlines for all future flights.

Anon-Connie

No shade. I refuse to fly either airline from just the horror stories. SWA is cheap enough for my needs.

Tyrone_Shoelaces_Esq

This. Spirit gives me the willies - the prices are too good to be true, and that's a bad bet to make with air travel. I flew Frontier once maybe 10 years ago, and it was fine. I guess they've gone downhill since then. Southwest is my airline of choice. Yes, they're a bus in the sky, but that's all I need, and the prices are good.

socialdeviant620

The only time I flew Frontier, they came 2 hours late (not really their fault, there were storms pushing back travel), so by the time we boarded, it was 11pm. Naturally, it was lights out for most of us. But some idiot got on the flight and was loudly talking and bantering the whole flight, and the flight attendant kept giving him more drinks. On top of that, when we landed, we had to wait an additional 2 hours to get our luggage. I was exhausted and had an 11am funeral to attend the next day. I swore to myself that I'd never fly Frontier again, and I mean it to my core!

Papa_PaIpatine

I flew Spirit monthly for 4 years when I worked out of state. Not bad for a hour and a half flight. But it was cheap.

socialdeviant620

I only fly roughly 2x a year. I'd likely swallow my pride and fly with them if I had to go more frequently.

Papa_PaIpatine

It's definitely a swallow your pride airline. If you do end up flying more frequently in the future for some reason though, I barely recommend TSA Precheck, cause it barely works. It's so wildly inconsistent you'll end up in regular screening more than half the time.

MajorDonkeyPuncher

What airport have you ended up in the regular time. I used to fly domestic ALL THE TIME and that has never happened once.

Skatingfan

I've never had that happen with TSA pre check either. Never been in a regular line.

Papa_PaIpatine

DEN and LAS both It was the times I was flying, usually late late at night or early af in the morning.

RedStar9117

Roughly 100 bucks to fly my kids from BWI to TPA.. Not bad at all for a 2 hour flight. Yeah spirit is fine....just know you're paying for every single extra thing

originalusername__

I’ve used them before and since I typically just use a carry on bag I don’t see much of a difference compared to other airlines. It was fine and incredibly cheap 🤷

Impossible_Maybe_162

Agreed - and the majority of the time I fly first class. An extra $200 is worth not dealing with the cattle car.

Servile-PastaLover

Spirit's main competition is Greyhound, not Delta, American, or United.

Mr_TP_Dingleberry

I’ve flown spirit three times in the last two years. Have never had a problem. I’ve also flown other airlines five other times and honestly besides aesthetics the experience was grossly identical. Also spirit uses airbus planes. That’s a plus in my book.

Papa_PaIpatine

I flew on spirit monthly for 4 years in my last job, an hour and a half flight isn't too bad with them, the point is, they're cheap tickets.

Mr_TP_Dingleberry

Sorry dunno why I responded to your comment. Sorry. My thought remains the same. Lot of people. Bad mouthing spirit. Yeah not sure about a cross country flight but middle of America to Florida or east coast- it’s identical to other airlines. Get in sit down. Enjoy the flight.

rmg418

I recently flew frontier, my flight there was changed to an entirely different time, and then delayed 🙄and my flight back home also got delayed. I planned to fly frontier again next month but after the experience I booked with spirit instead lol. I usually fly American though so that’s my go-to unless spirit is a lot cheaper and I can get away without needing to pay for a carry on for the trip.

ptvlm

Even if it was an expensive ticket, the people who did get to the plane on time also paid, and they shouldn't be delayed just because of his lazy ass. Next time read the conditions of what you paid for and get there on time

hanks_panky_emporium

When you total all the small charges, Spirit is about as expensive as any other airline. Instead of collecting all the general fee's into one ticket they hide fee's in other addons. Like if you purchase a ticket on American. You'll likely get pretzels, a soda, maybe a window seat. But on Spirit you'd get separate addon charges for the flight ticket, snacks, drinks, and even seat locations. Besides first, business, etc. It's pretty crazy to compare prices between Spirit and other flights when you're chartering. Once the addons pile up it might be even more expensive than other flights, depending on what you're taking with you.

LividBass1005

I do this comparison every single time I book a flight and spirit and frontier are always cheaper even with add ons. And will be direct flights. While other airlines have multiple stops. I flew from Las Vegas to Atlanta with my son and nephew and it was $709 roundtrip for all 3 tickets with a checked bag each and trip insurance. Pro tip ONLY fly direct with budget airlines. They don’t arrive on time consistently to be able to make connecting flights

r5ditSux

Hotels etc

TheGoodNoBad

Then don’t be late, dumbass 😂

razordenys

Some people just don't know. Couple weeks ago a family nearly missed flight because the had no idea what boarding time is. They thought flight time is fine to arrive.

robotteeth

I can understand how a first ever experience flying could be full of a lot of new and confusing experiences, but every time I book a flight it literally tells you to arrive at least two hours ahead of time and has big bold GATE CLOSES AT X:XX Whenever you are going into a new experience and don't know what to expect, it's best to...i dunno, read instructions.

Haymegle

TBF I'd get it if they flew out of the airport I flew out of recently. They just upgraded scanners and have been having some issues so the queues can be really long. It also moved quite quickly when it got going but when it's outside of the building I can see it messing someone up if they're expecting the usual timings there and not an extra hour and a half or so of queueing. But they were also calling out flight times and skipping people who had one soon to the front so even then it was very hard to miss your flight if you were paying attention to them saying "anyone with a flight at 7:30 or earlier please talk to staff" every few meters it's on you.

Coygon

I suppose that's one way to learn.

ptvlm

Sometimes people have to learn the hard way. Common sense should dictate that the flight time is the time the plane *leaves*, and also that a plane carrying hundreds of people won't wait around for individual stragglers. I'm not sure what it's like in the US, but in Europe every ticket shows the boarding time as well as departure time, and the checking process will tell you to get to the airport at least 45 mins - 1 hour early to allow for delays at security (more if you're dropping off luggage or for certain airports). The information should be there in front of their faces, it's not on everyone else to be delayed because people are too dumb to read, they should just learn an expensive lesson.

aldosi-arkenstone

Every ticket in the US shows boarding time as well … they just didn’t pay attention I guess

Infinite-Condition41

Yes, our own boarding passes say that too. And most of the time it's recommended to arrive 2 hours early for security theater. Some small airports you can get through much faster.  At my local airport, they instituted a rule at one time that you have to check in at leat an hour early or your ticket is cancelled, because, and this actually happened, a guy showed up late, called In a bomb threat, and expected the plane to turn around and come back an get him. He's probably still in prison.

razordenys

My experience was from Europe. yes, common sense.. . :)

RichardPryor1976

Nope. You have to educate yourself ... Just like every other damn thing in life

shiny_glitter_demon

Please. When a train is at 9:45, it LEAVES at 9:45. Everyone knows that you nees to arrive at the station and platform before then. Why would planes be different? That family is entirely at fault there.

No-Worldliness1300

Ignant

Dude-Man-Bro-Guy-1

Which is sad because every flight I've taken in the last decade pretty clearly specifies boarding time (or at least when it closes), or straight up recommends to arrive at the airport X amount of time before departure. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it spend 30 seconds reading the paperwork for its family trip.

largelyinaccurate

I always wonder how people think that endlessly repeating themselves will positively affect the outcome of a situation. There’s no way it can be more effective than civil discourse, tears or bribery.

Jeff_Damn

My theory is that they had parents who were pushovers that gave them whatever they wanted just so they'd shut up.

pretty_pretty_good_

It's like people that keep repeating phrases like "I didn't do nothing" and "for what?" when they're being arrested. Like what do you think just repeating it over and over again is going to do?

Affectionate_Pea8891

Or, my personal favorite, “You can’t arrest me”, as they’re _literally_ being arrested. And it’s wild because it really seems like they truly believe what they’re saying!

Georgiaonmymindtwo

A succulent Chinese meal.

Georgiaonmymindtwo

“endlessly repeating themselves” Endlessly repeating themselves LOUDLY FTFY

hanks_panky_emporium

Sounds like a survival instinct. Not that they're dying or anything, but some people have verbal ticks. Like every 'intense' public video has about three people screeching, as if that's going to help anything. But it's not like they can properly help it.

mira_poix

And there's tons of videos of women getting in trouble and every sentence is ended with *uh* Like "WWWWWWWhhhhhhhhyyyyuuuh?!? Don't do this to meuuh, I wanna go hooomeuh" It's annoying af and weird

Ill-Structure-8292

Yeah, it was probably a more useful instinct when humans were competing for resources 20,000 years ago or whatever, but now it most often gets turned on hapless employees in customer service postions.

LynnScoot

I feel sorry for that poor staff member who has absolutely no backup.

patpend

Can’t that staff member just call security and fuck those people for the rest of their lives?

PurpleIsALady1798

I was starting to freak out just watching this video; I can’t imagine how that felt getting yelled at for doing his job.

RichardPryor1976

Then don't take any job with the public. This is the public.

PurpleIsALady1798

I know, I worked customer service for a year and a half. I will not be doing that again, because people are dicks.

These are the very very very few incidences that make me wish for more police presence. No gate agent (or any human) deserves that type of abuse for the travelers own bullshit

maj--decoverley

I'm honestly aghast at this influx of people showing up to their flights super late and throwing a goddamn fit because they don't understand what exactly departure time means ETA and then posting their public freakouts like they aren't completely in the wrong in this situation?! JFC

RichardPryor1976

They are completely in the wrong

Riker1701E

Funny that someone flying Spirit air is complaining about all the money they spent. That is the lowest of the budget airlines

PersonUsingRedditt

Privilege is fucken real with this one

SpecialistBit283

Why is a military person late to the airport? Don’t they drill timing into their training? And that gate person has way more patience than me, I would’ve been called airport security. Enjoy the no fly list bud

ChupikaAKS

It is stupid of them to argue, but I understand the frustration. I never came late to a regular flight, but to connection flights. The first flight is running late. The second flight from the same company closes the gate 5 minutes prior to the flight and doesn't even wait 5 minutes. But I don't argue. I just make them pay the fee of 250 euro for coming home much later.

hanks_panky_emporium

I was like 'omg a fee they have to pay?' and then you said euro and I became sad. Best I can do in the states is sleep in an uncomfortable seat for six hours because the connecting flight was long gone since it was the ONLY flight to depart on time while everything else is delayed or arriving late. Longest I had to sit in a terminal was about twelve-ish hours. Nothing was comped, company didn't have to pay any fee's. Not even the little 'special' lounge first class has access to with free snacks and drinks. A nightmare.

ChupikaAKS

The companies won't run after you so that they pay you the fee. It's the other way round and most of the time you have to stay persistent or even sue them with the help of a company for flight right issues. When you miss a connection flight or it was canceled, you are entitled to some money and a stay in a hotel, if it's overnight. Just google it. This is an example of an American site https://www.airhelp.com/en-int/flight-rights-usa/

hanks_panky_emporium

I'll have to keep that in mind. I appreciate the info

Haymegle

I've had some close calls with connections. I don't think I'd yell if I missed it, but I would have a cry for a few minutes before finding their desk and seeing what they can do. Mostly because the connecting flight is every other day and flying stresses me out for that reason. I'm so glad there's another route I can go now. Still every other day but one direct flight and a train (that goes every hour) is way less stressful that trying to make a flight from another flight that's every other day.

Impossible_Maybe_162

The only time I have had them re-open the door is when you have a lot of people on a connection that is late.

CrimsonRaine777

This is what fills my nightmares the week before traveling and why I insist we get to the airport at least two hours early for domestic three for out of country

MajorDonkeyPuncher

Nah, waste of time

Spiritual_Tourist196

Talking about paying all this money on tickets and he’s flying Spirit Airlines 🤣🤣🤣

diewitasmile

These fucking people are dumb AF. Don’t be late, don’t act entitled, and don’t take out your stupidity on the poor guy working. He can’t help you, there are a literal fuck ton of rules preventing him from opening that gate. Maybe you shouldn’t be late you dumbass.

timmycheesetty

Why is it always Spirit?

gdex86

Because spirit is the trashiest of all airlines that still treats you like a somewhat human being.

thishyacinthgirl

I'm on the fence with that one. I once flew Spirit and had my bottle of water taken at the gate to the plane. The water that I had bought in the terminal across from the gate. Then they wouldn't let me buy water on the plane because I only had cash. It's been over ten years. I'm still salty about it. [Obviously]

number1human

I came here to say this.

u35828

Them and Waffle House.

Impossible_Maybe_162

Because it is the cheapest. The cheapest always gets the worst of society.

Traditional_Draw8400

“I’m a military person”. Way to demean your status by waving it at an airport when you’re late

ParamedicSpecific130

I always laugh at these videos. Dude, once that door closes, you ain’t talking your way onto that plane. Just hold that L and your dignity.

FreyaGin

Oh does this bring back memories as an American Express Travel agent! They always expected the airline to accommodate them and then call to rage at us when the airline wouldn't. And of course, they'd demand a refund, which we couldn't give them because the airline refused to. But of course, they expect Amex to pay for the refund, nevermind that only much more expensive travel services ever do that at all. As another poster wrote, don't be late for your flight. No, they're not going to turn the plane around to pick you up. The plane is not your personal taxi. And you're almost certainly not getting a refund.

QaDarjo

After 9/11, I'm surprised anyone feels it's ok to get uppity at an airport! I had a layover in Las Vegas a few years ago and saw an altercation. Lady (and I use that word LOOSELY) dropped a dollar bill and didn't flinch. A kid picked it up and she went on a full meltdown! Screaming at the kid and then the whole family! Big guys with rifles were on her in about a minute or two. I don't even know where they came from!

SpecialistBowl2216

"I'm a military person"...since you made that little disclosure, I must find out their unit to make them SM famous! She should know better.

ElboDelbo

Of course it's Spirit Airlines. Spirit: the bus that flies

lerriuqS_terceS

This is why I avoid Spirit. It's a flying city bus.

DaHamMan3

Did she say she’s a “military person” 😂 if you’re not 15 min early you are late.

MiInBadBook

I feel for them, I’m sure we all do and most have been in this situation or real damn close to it. But, wow, not the way to deal with it. Yelling at the poor employee. Damn, that employee *literally* cannot open the gate. Hell, no one can. Once the gate is closed it cannot be opened again. That’s the standard and practice worldwide. It’s not an LAX thing, an airline thing and definitely not the employees thing.

Propanegoddess

Yes because screaming and being aggressive in an airport always works.

Buzzspice727

Its spirit, they ain’t waiting

Southern-Anybody-752

Only fly Spirit if you want to become one.

sorandom21

I’ve missed a flight because my connecting flight was late due to getting a random flight crew person on and we only had 15 minutes to get from one terminal to another in Atlanta. They close the gate 2 minutes before we got there. Thankfully they rebooked us but not until the next day. Comped us hotel but sucked

Major-Check-1953

They should have gotten there on time. The plane will not wait for them.

pretty_pretty_good_

Next time, "axe somebody" if they know where to buy an alarm clock

PurpleIsALady1798

The poor guy just trying to do his job, getting cussed and screamed at. He handled it way better than me, I’d have been curled up behind the desk sobbing. I cannot *stand* having people yell at me.

Legal_Guava3631

Someone didn’t leave early enough

WretchedRat

Flying has become the Greyhound bus of this generation.

lesnortonsfarm

Where is this sense of entitlement from?

Bitter-Picture5394

Everyone knows you need to be early. However, if you are late most airlines will find you a later flight. Just be apologetic and nice, someone will help you.

Huncho-Ford-69

Why would they axe somebody on the plane?

HSikeYourMind

Plot twist: He was relieved to miss the flight and put on a show for his girlfriend.

No_Translator2218

All those flight attendants thinking "Doors closed and I'm getting paid now, finally." This couple probably cost the attendants money by being late and forcing the door open longer.

WelcometotheDollhaus

I missed my flight and cried and got the next flight out of LAX. Wasn’t my fault though.

ColVonHammerstein

Granted this was at DIA, but back in April, I arrived around 4 hours early to my flight and missed my flight due to TSA. I'm lucky that I didn't have a deadline- "need to be at ______ by _______ or I'm fired" type of thing. I ended up hanging at the airport for almost 10 hours before I could get on another flight.

Treviathan88

I love it when people aren't even intelligent enough to say a 3 letter word correctly.

Ohboi_rolo_Evo8

LividBass1005

Is this a spirit flight too?! Oh no you knew better. Spirit don’t care at ALL about you. I mean I fly spirit and frontier often and the amount of times their flights are delayed is crazy. And it’s usually hours. But even with it confidently happening I sure do show up on time every time.

thepinky7139

“all that fucking money we be spendin’…” Sir, that’s Spirit Airlines. I mean technically they are, in fact, spending money, but not in the way he’s trying to use to manipulate the system.

McAshley0711

It’s been a long time since I flew and I know times have changed, but back then if the gates were closed, they were closed. There was no one to be mad at but yourself cause you were well aware you had to be there an hour or two early. And you wouldn’t even dream of disrespecting the staff. 😑😑

bduthman

You have to ax somebody first!

Desperate_Set_7708

dodobrains

Educational-Hat-9405

Always a good idea to act like an asshole to the company that has any right to deny you. If they would've been nice about it there's a very big chance the flight company would have helped them find a proper solution. My guess (and hope) is they are now fucked and lost all the money.

I’ve barely made flights before because they’ve changed the gate last minute. Airports are stressful enough. Back when the government used to regulate air travel more the whole flying experience was amazing. I’m only 37 for reference. Planes had been on a downhill slide before it but 9/11 made the airport miserable too.

Turbulent_Monk_7142

😢😭😭😭😭😭

NotTrumpsAlt

Im dumb, but May I ask why they can’t open the gate ? ( I know they’re in the wrong)

just_chilling_too

On brand for Spirt airline

Cad___Monkey

No it is not. No gate will be opened for anyone for any airline if you arrive late.

tedecristal

What's the consequence?

GamerGirlLex77

They don’t get on the plane

Inside_Ad_7162

I was on Ryanair, sitting up the front. It's time to go. One attendant is holding the door, saying "there's someone at gate, should we wait?" so I piped up "no, they missed the flight it's take off time & I guarantee your CEO would approve", and off we went XD
