$22 million to players, but that will be split between football and at least also basketball. I’m sure they’ll pay the other student athletes a small amount as well. Giving $12 mill to football, $8 mill to basketball, and then $2 mill between the other sports. Idk the numbers of student athletes, but I’m sure lacrosse and volleyball players would be stoked to get paid $300 a month.

So around 150k per scholarship player? Sounds about right plus any NIL opportunities they get. I hope they advise them to put 100% of their first year after tax salary into retirement accounts. If they do this and max out their RothIRA every year.. with a 10% average rate of return puts them at well over $15MM by age 62 if they don’t touch it and max Roth contributions increase slightly every year. What an amazing head start as an 18 year old kid even if you don’t make the NFL.

Bucksandreds

What percentage of 18-22 year olds do you think would put 100% of their income into retirement accounts? .1%?

Jstargazr

Exactly!! Gotta get a nice ride, new clothes, some jewelry etc.. No way they invest 100%. 30-50% at best. Prolly 20-25% is more realistic

Known-Programmer-611

The kickers are the 1 percenters!

GarysSword

FYI - Roth income limits are $146k.

Title IX requires that men and women's sports be paid equally, unfortunately.

MrGoodKatt72

No it doesn’t, at least not yet. It only means that you can’t deny someone the opportunity to participate in a program on the basis of sex/gender if that institution receives federal funding. Courts would have to rule on exactly what that means in terms of paying students. If they end up being classified as employees though, that changes things and then Title VII would likely apply and we’d have a USWNT situation again.

Lmao "unfortunately"?

MasterApprentice67

Pretty sure all public schools need to publicly state that info. Also another great recruiting tool because we can see if schools are really being truthful what they pay and are willing to pay

MADachshund

This is what everyone will be paying out. NCAA said as long as $22m or less, they’re not going to bother with NIL audits and reviews
