I saw her in Philly like 14 years ago. Great show. All types there. There was an older looking white guy there look like a redneck. Cut off flannel shirt and everything. He knew every word to every song. I asked him , how did he become a fan ? He said his football coach was an older black man who played Sade when he took him to practice. 😂
When I turned on the audio I was amazed at how good the band sounded. It didn’t sound live to me at first. And wow are they tight. Everyone is in the pocket.
I saw Tears for Fears in concert a long time ago and their sound was very close to their production as well. Definitely live, but impressive too
But you may be right
Yeah, there's a backing track there or something at a minimum. There are a ton of vocal harmonies in the chorus that appear out of nowhere, and it isn't just the bass player singing.
The greates combo of sexy performer and sexy tune ever!
Ps.
I hadn't realized that it was from her Snoop Dog picked up the line: 'Coast to coast LA to Chicago'
You can see the bassist singing backup — not that it means this performance wasn’t dubbed over.
But at least one other person on that stage is using a mic.
It either means "I'm too young to have any idea what the 80s were like" or "I was there but I lived a very sheltered suburban life".
Both of these together dominate reddit. People who actually think the 80s was like those nostalgic tv shows.
Means she wouldn't be as popular as she deserves, since she's not mumbling, using autotune, doesn't have an artificial, unnaturally huge ass, and isn't singing only about sex and drugs, because that's how classless the mainstream music scene has become.
Mental to think just a few years earlier she was bumming around with a fledgling Spandau Ballet and the blitz kids, ended up being more successful than them all, what a voice!
"We look like a bunch of chimpanzees"
"No we look like a rock n roll band playing a rock n roll song during Weekend at Party Pier!"
"Good news boys, you get to keep your woredrobe."
First CD I ever bought. Worked in my dad's machine shop all through middle and highschool and bought a CD player when they first came out and this was the first one I bought. Sounded so good!
well upon further review yes there seems to be some back tracking (I guess it's called). but lead vocals are not the studio recording. I'm convinced she's at least singing this into a live mic.

I’m here for these
No need to as he’s a smooth penetratoooooor
Her band is legendary, especially the saxophonist

Between her silky voice and the instrumental play, you’d think that this wasn’t live. Absolutely amazing (and always was)
I think this is full playback. It is too similar to the original record.

Maybe backing track but vocals are totally hers. Listen to the breaths she takes
Timeless!!?
No question marks needed
They don't look like people from 84, more like 94.
She's always been extremely fresh in her fashion.
I was thinking the exact same thing
Anyone else was waiting for the "Coast to coast LA to Chicago... " part? I know it wasn't just me, lol.
Melts me everytime
It's weird but in my many decades of life I don't think I've ever heard anything but the main chorus of this song.
That's what I was thinking, it was a big hit, definitely heard it back in the day, wouldn't recognize it until the chorus though.
That bass is *high*
Highest I’ve ever seen. 😳
It's almost a hat.
Where can I get a bass guitar necklace?
That'll get you a busted wrist
Helen had us in a chokehold
Forty years ago. Frickin’ forty years. I was aware (and a fan of it) when was released at the time. Time. I’m telling you, is merciless.
Unreal when you think 40 years previous to that was 1944 and still WW2.
It just doesn't seem healthy for the wrist joint the way the bass player is playing.
I want to see how he plays an F
The greates combo of sexy performer and sexy tune ever! Ps. I hadn't realized that it was from her Snoop Dog picked up the line: 'Coast to coast LA to Chicago'
Beautiful Sade and beautiful music
Hmmm something seems off about this. Audio quality is insane for a live performance. Sounds like a lip sync to me. Still a killer tune, love Sade
I think they performed live but whoever made this clip dubbed it over with the studio recording.
Late 80s German broadcast? 99% chance the station required lip-sync
Yeah it fades out in the end. I think it is playback.
totally a synch - where are the background singers?
You can see the bassist singing backup — not that it means this performance wasn’t dubbed over. But at least one other person on that stage is using a mic.
having a mic and using a mic are different and those are clearly female back-up vocals
There are at least 3 backup singers I hear, and two are definitely female. The vocal in question is doubled and then a multi-part harmony.
That spoken word intro is fire
Our man is playing the sax while smoking a cigarette. Fucking Legend.
She oozed class. The video seems very “un-classy” lip-synched but still such a great song.
But I can imaaaagine the back up singers
Way too classy for today's music scene.

yeah, I always hated how fat post malone's ass is
dawg why is it so easy to find someone like you in every Reddit comment section
It’s true
Probably the simplest reason - there's a lot of us that think that.
???
No offense but how on the good green earth can you say that her entire ouvere is not about sex🤔 she's a classic baby making artist.
She’s still popular, even among young people. You’re just out of touch.
Love that band and her! So smooth
Lordy! Where did the past 40 years go? It feels like yesterday to me and looks like it was filmed yesterday too.
the queen.
Welp, at least the current generation has "WAP" and Doja Cat right? Right?
SOX we ROX!
Smooth as silk 🥵
God, I love this woman’s music
God she’s beautiful in every way.
Bunch of philistines in the audience
Ah yes, the bass player that kept his bass under his chin...loved that guy
This is how babies were made in the 80s and 90s.
There’s very little that could paint make this more 80s
Angelic voice. Absolutely amazing.
Absolutely ripping, what legends the lot of ‘em
Mental to think just a few years earlier she was bumming around with a fledgling Spandau Ballet and the blitz kids, ended up being more successful than them all, what a voice!
SO FABULOUS! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
She is not actually singing...
The bass is not plugged in 😂
It's plugged in...there's a chord hanging from the end.
No, there is no cable plugged in the jack, which is on the front of the bass, under the bridge and next to the knobs
"We look like a bunch of chimpanzees" "No we look like a rock n roll band playing a rock n roll song during Weekend at Party Pier!" "Good news boys, you get to keep your woredrobe."

What? A woman can have a hit song without shaking her half naked ass in front of the crowd and cameras?
She‘s the smoothest operator
she is smoooooth
She is amazing live... wish she were still touring.
First time I see people from the 80s that don't look stuiped, and sade is gorgeous

What’s mili vanilification here?
Lip syncing I guess
Her and her voice,no dancers, clothes on,great great band this ain’t no hip hop, wow!
Why do you have to be weird?
best part about this is it appears not to be lip synched.
really? do you see more than one female on stage to sing the harmonies? I don’t
well upon further review yes there seems to be some back tracking (I guess it's called). but lead vocals are not the studio recording. I'm convinced she's at least singing this into a live mic.
This is clearly lip synced. It’s exactly the same as the album version
I loved the music but couldn’t unsee those gloves 🧤 i
Even with a short in range mic... She was flawless

I liked the unreleased original lyrics titled "Smooth Flatulator."
f*ing stunning.
