"Hang your head low in the glow of the vending machine..."
Olivia finishes it with "...I'm not buying", when it should be, "...I'm not dying"
Oh, she also says, "he looks so pretty like a devil", when it should be, "he looks up grinning like a devil".
I always find these misheard lyrics endearing :D
But historically Taylor does not have the best diction as many of her lyrics are misheard. I used to be one of those people who sang “Starbucks lovers” 😂😂😂
That was my thought when I just heard this; I love Taylor too but it's absurd that Olivia felt she had to give any royalties to her for this song when neither the words nor melody of "Cruel Summer" were used in "deja vu"; I don't see how having one line that is shouted in a way that's reminiscent of the way Taylor shouts a totally different line in "Cruel Summer" is in any way remotely tantamount to plagiarism.
A lot of people accused her of copying Cruel Summer's bridge in deja vu to the point she gave writing credit to Taylor Swift. Some people think that's what the grudge is about.
A lot of the information around the whole thing is relatively unknown- we don't know whether Olivia just gave the credits or Taylor asked for them, and we don't know what terms they're on, and we don't know whether Taylor tried to refuse the credit but was unable to
Using an interpolation of New Years Day was the only thing anyone wondered about whether it was approved. The Grudge is clearly about that whole saga. Taylor wanted credit, wanted to be listed as songwriter enough to possibly add another AOTY grammy to her resume. I love them both but as Olivia says, "you have everything and you still want more." Read the lyrics, even that "phone call in May" matches up. There is a photo of Olivia at maybe 8 years old holding a sign that says "world' s biggest Taylor Swift fan" or something similar. It was immediately after the credit changes that Olivia stopped referencing Taylor in interviews. Prior to that, she always confirmed her Swiftie status. I love them both but this left me with some real reservations about Taylor. I had to rethink the whole Taylor/Katy saga. Watch Olivia being interviewed by Alanis Morrisette. Olivia used to reference Taylor as an inspiration in almost every interview right up until when this all went down.
Jack Antonoff who also got credit said that they weren’t expecting credit but were just suddenly given it. I think Olivia’s team was worried because of the backlash from Good4 U/ Misery Business so decided to get ahead of it and offer credit to Taylor and Jack
She said she was inspired by the shouting style of the bridge. This is not copyrighted. The credit they forced her to give was for an "interpolation" that does not exist.
Yeah, that’s literally what I said. She said she was inspired by it. I don’t know why people are acting like I said that Taylor deserves rights. I literally said the same thing as your first sentence.
see i knew you’d say something like this. i’m sick of people making it out to be some petty feud. ultimately none of it was olivia or taylor, it was their management. olivia probably loves taylor and this song, and taylor loves olivia.
lol girl who do you think owns Tay’s management team?? I’ll give you a hint:

Olivia has said she would never personally do that if she was in Taylor’s position. There’s definitely bad blood

you think a song that is clearly about grooming is about a friend?? lol.
taylor and olivia weren't friends anyway. they have one photo together. showing support isn't a friendship.
There was a lot of previous post in here about her unreleased songs. Here is the link to save you from searching: https://youtu.be/sgP7lRQd9Qg?si=rctv9rVFRvl6nyMw
My sister hated the song "Look What You Made Me Do" but after listening to Olivia's theatrical cover of it reconsidered the entire song. She was super young when she covered it too and it's so interesting.
this is cute but olivia screaming to better than revenge in a car>>>>
Woah I’ve never seen that either
Link? 🥺👉🏼👈🏼

She posted a lot when she was in the process of releasing her first album. I remember Taylor reposted a cover once.
That’s how I found out who Olivia is lol
Haha it probably helped her a lot!
This was where i first discovered olivia bc taylor posted this cover on her ig stories!!!
This is how i discovered her too!!
She even says the miss heard lyric I love It.
what lyric is that? xx
"Hang your head low in the glow of the vending machine..." omg i’ve been singing this wrong 🤣😭
“He looks so pretty like a devil” — “he looks up grinning like a devil” Which one is it? Idk but I always love Liv
It’s “he looks up grinning like a devil”
It's amazing she plays that well while singing that hard. I don't think she misses a note.
talented powerhouse
Gosh her voice is angelic
Wow she really has an incredible voice
not her thinking it was "so pretty like a devil" 😭
She also says ‘unbreakable heaven’ when the lyric is actually ‘in breakable heaven’
think she also said 'im not buying' after the vending machine line, I always used to say this lmao
I thought everyone of these was right
I still sometimes say this even tho ik its wrong lol
Relatable queen
But historically Taylor does not have the best diction as many of her lyrics are misheard. I used to be one of those people who sang “Starbucks lovers” 😂😂😂
iconic pop culture moment
I really wonder how Olivia feels about this song now ngl
That was my thought when I just heard this; I love Taylor too but it's absurd that Olivia felt she had to give any royalties to her for this song when neither the words nor melody of "Cruel Summer" were used in "deja vu"; I don't see how having one line that is shouted in a way that's reminiscent of the way Taylor shouts a totally different line in "Cruel Summer" is in any way remotely tantamount to plagiarism.
why?
Because of the bogus songwriting credit she gave for Deja Vu just because it had a screamy bridge, as if TS invented screamy bridges

wow.
She wasn’t accused of copying it. She directly said it was inspired by by Cruel Summer.
And being inspired by a song doesn’t mean you deserve 50% of the royalties taken away
Cool. I’m just correcting what the comment said. I didn’t say if Taylor does or doesn’t deserve royalties, but go off I guess
People did try to insinuate that she copied it tho

lol girl do you think their lawyers let them make decisions about legal matters? no. that’s what they pay lawyers for.
Olivia has said she would never personally do that if she was in Taylor’s position. There’s definitely bad blood Source: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/stephaniesoteriou/olivia-rodrigo-shade-songwriting-credits-taylor-swift
well vampire always did sound to me like it was written for a friend, not a lover.
you think a song that is clearly about grooming is about a friend?? lol. taylor and olivia weren't friends anyway. they have one photo together. showing support isn't a friendship.
I saw this livestream live 😭 I have a screenrecording of her singing "gross," and unreleased original that she wrote.
You should totally post it here! I bet I’m not the only one who missed a lot of these
There was a lot of previous post in here about her unreleased songs. Here is the link to save you from searching: https://youtu.be/sgP7lRQd9Qg?si=rctv9rVFRvl6nyMw
Thank you!!!
I think it's available on YouTube as well, but yeah! I can haha. Although a lot of Olivia fans don't seem to like that song 😭😭
I wish her and Taylor were still friends
same. they are two of my favorite artists.
She’s incredible 😍 Makes me sad for Liv not know what was going to happen

This is such a weird comment… ![gif](giphy|kilEsmm7DHKU)

Yup! We’ll see it soon
shes soo pretty
Those runs are gorgeous.😍
Her voice is better than the original.
yeah ig it’s personal preference but I wish this version was on streaming 😭
Wish she’d release covers she’s done in the past
She's the best.
I absolutely love this
She even sings better than the original 😍
I loved when she was a Taylor fan. I’m so sad Taylor did that to her. Poor Olivia 😭
Wow. I wish she would put out an album of covers in between her main albums.
not her singing the wrong lyrics
Haha omg I clicked on this thinking it was cruel summer by bananarama 😂
This is a beautiful cover and I’m kind of obsessed
The Smiths album cover in the background is titled "The Queen Is Dead" more conspiracy theories 😂 😉
I love this cover but I don’t like Taylor Swift
My sister hated the song "Look What You Made Me Do" but after listening to Olivia's theatrical cover of it reconsidered the entire song. She was super young when she covered it too and it's so interesting.
Olivia started working for Disney I believe in 2018 but I think that this video had to be from 2017
Im wrong it was in 2016
That's the time when I started listening to Cruel Summer, when she posted this. 🥰
Wit you 🫠
