So...what's the scuttlebutt?

MontanaWildhack69

Yeah, what's the poop?

Seversevens

give thee the tea

wicked_smiler402

It's funny they have other complaints about them as well. Especially the reason why they aren't allowed at Trucks and Taps anymore since they were the cause of all the trucks getting broken into and there being no video evidence of who it was since they moved cameras. They also would throw items from other trucks out thinking they wouldn't need them anymore. There are tons of other reasons on top of it.

DaHoss1

They moved the cameras? Why? Been feeling something fishy was up with them since they opened the brick and mortar location and then immediately closed it and said they never wanted a physical location anyways. Erratic and bizarre.

wicked_smiler402

They said they moved it because they couldn't tell when the Uber/GrubHub drivers would show up to trucks and taps so they move the camera to point to the backdoor of the my building. They got kicked out of there and moved in with 402 BBQ which they got kicked out of there for trying to fight the owners of 402 cause they were trying to take more space than they were supposed to have and then wouldn't clean up after themselves. I had an interview with them for the shop and seeing the state of the stuff they had and the fact it was more late nights on the food truck at stops they didn't want to do they were going to pay me 15+ tips after posting 23 an hour. The brick and mortar was a terrible idea for them, but they couldn't get into any commercial kitchens because of their shitty record.

ThatGoodGooGoo

Looks like against attorney advice they’ve updated on Facebook with more details 👀

DaHoss1

Again, kind of erratic and strange. Nobody was dragging him on social media, I made this post specifically because nobody could figure out what he was talking about in the first place lol

the_moosen

Omaha & restaurant drama, name a more iconic duo That said, never ate vegedible but I have tried wonton jons & it was not good at all

Posh_Monster

We had their crab rangoon wonton at the summer arts festival and it tasted like liquidy cat food. Disgusting 🤢

Ricky_Rocket_

They were also $15 for 4 tiny portions...

ThatGuyYouKnow

Yeah a previous employer paid for them to come on-site one day. After eating their food, I thought, "This is fine but I'm glad I didn't pay for it"

manchild_star

You've tried liquid cat food? Was your cat upset with you eating its food?

shotgundug13

Favoritism and a certain Facebook corrupt group doesn't help the situations at all.

krustymeathead

>Facebook corrupt group Omaha Food Lovers for anyone unaware. [Spilt tea](https://www.reddit.com/r/Omaha/comments/1b0izrl/our_food_community_can_be_a_little_dramatic)

Broking37

Restaurant Dramaha

OwnApartment8359

Vegedible does some things right and some things just wrong. Specifically their vegan queso. It tasted like poop or dirt. But their pastries and shakes are amazing.

nuclear-steve

I have this opinion that vegetarian and vegan dishes need to stop trying to immitate foods that they can't possibly be, like meat and cheese. If people would just come up with original dishes that don't include those things the food would taste way better. For example Indian cuisine doesn't seem to have problems not having meat in it and it's not trying to be like meat. A vegan burger is a f****** awful idea. Vegan queso sounds even worse.

OwnApartment8359

I disagree. If done right you can't even tell. Modern Love is SOOOO good at this. I love good vegan food. It makes me feel good. I'm not a vegan by any means but being gluten free, alot of vegan foods overlap with my diet so I eat alot of them.

krustymeathead

I can't speak for their food truck, but their burritos were great in their brick n mortar location (where VegEdible is currently). I am sad they went back to truck only as it is way harder to find them to eat their food. edit: I liked the wontons but to be honest they were (imo) a bit overpriced and didn't compare to their burritos. Does anyone else do a korean burrito? I'll have to check Corner Kitchen.

nuclear-steve

Not sure it's what you are looking for but check out Heoya in Lincoln.

Boom357

Wow that was an entire paragraph that said essentially nothing.

modi123_1

The only thing I learned was there is a business in Omaha called Wonton Jon. So that's a start for me.

theycallmefuRR

I had to Google what scandal they're referring to. I'm sure I'm not the only one so this probably wasn't good for them.

darwin1520

I mean, it's pretty clear they're going to stay out of it publicly until it's all over. Also nice to see they're not running straight to a crowd source for money and just asking for people to continue their support.

YogiBerragingerhusky

What I gathered from it was they don't like puppies. That of course isn't a bad thing but iglf they don't like kittens too?

pondscum2069

Wait let me see if I get this right, there's a place called Wonton John's and they kill and cook dogs.

TheoreticalFunk

Yes, that should have been like 4-5 paragraphs. Like if you're going to send out something like this, get a proofreader.

pinkflamingoturds

Is the restaurant drama here normal, or is this an Omaha thing?

krustymeathead

This is a unique situation even within Omaha. Fortunately.

Amers2017

It's Veg Edible.

OwnApartment8359

I've been waiting for this to be mentioned. It sounds like from their side there's some information being left out. That post was embarrassing. Sad to see as a gluten free individual, it looks bad

drunken_elf

Their posts are always so passive aggressive

BeatrixPlz

What’s going on about it? I like veg edible! Hope it’s not too messy.

ImprovementGreat7797

Found the post on their FB. Honestly, a lot of seems like their fault, the big one being “mis lead about the lease terms so we signed” part. Like read what you sign is lease 101. They also have a go fund me put up to raise money. Idk, they rubbed me the wrong way like a year ago, and some of their comments on things are super condescending so 🤷‍♀️

domfromdom

It's hard cause I do wanna support them as well but they just bitch... all the fucking time. I get that being in the restaurant business sucks (like personally know), but there's better ways than to blame everyone else for your decisions that are poorly made or bring everyone into your drama even if its not your fault.

OwnApartment8359

That's my thing. Their place has such a good concept and an important one at that, but honestly. They need some PR training. And I mean that in the nicest way..

FCkeyboards

Damn, what else has happened to them? I saw the post about misfortune being a constant theme in their life. But, people also seem to dislike this other place and have acknowledged they've done super shady stuff.

krustymeathead

Yeah I remember some time ago they seemed to attack people online leaving just lukewarm reviews. That's just so terrible. Seeing that made my wife and I stay away despite my wife having celiac and VegEdible being walking distance from us. I guess if they didn't understand leaving scathing replies to ok reviews is not a good look, it would not surprise me if they may not 100% understand the terms of their contract.

suesay

Interesting because a vegan restaurant here in Lincoln is also known for attacking people who leave reviews aside from 5 stars. Just bizarre.

Shelter-Regular

Which one?

krustymeathead

Unless I'm missing something, a quick look at Google reviews & replies tells me its likely Naughty Buddha Budger Bar the Sequel. Their responses to bad reviews lack tact.

Shelter-Regular

Oooooo they also were making non vegan food items in omaha!

suesay

Ding ding ding!

BeatrixPlz

I wonder if the post has been deleted - I’m having trouble finding it.

BeatrixPlz

Thank you, idk how I missed that 🤪

ImprovementGreat7797

What did they say?

domfromdom

That the whole world is against them, like usual

ImprovementGreat7797

Damn, I missed all of this

Amers2017

It's on their Facebook page and someone shared it to the Omaha Eats uncensored page. They have a go fund me and begging for help.

Erinsays

Their statement is posted on their Facebook if anyone wants to see. I’m not choosing sides, I just happen to follow them both on social media

DuranExaminer

There’s a difference between “bitching,” as some here say, and speaking up for oneself. (Whether that’s wise to do so at this point is another matter.) But it’s really hard for me to believe as, yes, a fellow woman (and vegan) that she isn’t the party being taken advantage of.  Why would someone just make up specific details like being charged $100 a day to use a sink (which is just wild and as I understand a more recent development). I guess it’s for the courts to decide, but I wish her the best.

haveyoufoundyourself

Here's the other business's side of the story: https://www.facebook.com/story.php?id=100063803324904&story_fbid=932673328869436

Special_Kestrels

I don't even know what's going on? So the owner of the building also owns a food truck called wontons jons? And he soudd like he's being a dick to the people he leased the space to, which is a vegetarian place ?

krustymeathead

Wonton Jon's used to have a brick and mortar location where VegEdible is now. Some time I think last year, Jon decided to go back to having only a food truck like he had before. I guess his lease wasn't up yet so he found VegEdible to sublease the location. Now I don't know the details, but I am seeing that there is disagreement about that sublease contract and what was in it. I guess this will be resolved in court soon.

florodude

"as a small woman-owned business" Yeah I'm done reading after that lol. Being woman-owned should be something that is empowering, not used as a trump card.

Woodley56

Omaha and their dramatic restaurants lol Baked after dark should have never left smh

ChefBoyRUdead

Not sure what the drama is, but their food is quite possibly the worst thing that has been in my mouth, ever. I've worked in janitorial work before and bad things happen, and I'd prefer that over their crap rangoon and their philthy cheese steak.

gbf402

So thank you if you have reached the conclusion without all the facts to support us but if you don't support us then don't judge us till you have all of the facts? Facts that we can't tell you right now....

Erod890

You’re welcome!

florodude

Brother how do you think a court of law works? Every lawyer ever will tell you not to spread details to the public.

gbf402

Swing and a miss!

florodude

Huh?

Shelter-Regular

Look up veg edible on Facebook she has the other side to this with a video of the wonton Jon owner flipping off her cameras

OwnApartment8359

Not a good look to post that stuff. Save it for court

Sprinkles-Cold

Yeah posting that with no context is so dumb and leads me to believe they are in the wrong

darwin1520

It's pretty much the first thing any good lawyer will tell you. Stay off social medial. Lol. Looks like they need a better lawyer.

OwnApartment8359

Honestly it's common sense. Something they must lack.

TheWolfAndRaven

Wonton John's had pretty good burritos back when they were apart of Blend, but I don't know how much the owners really had to do with Blend directly or if Blend just had staff that made the food to spec.

arborealghoul

I think the owner of Wonton Jon’s also owned Blend or somehow was related to it in some way? Anyway came here to mention this! That place lasted less than 6 months. Sounds like maybe they took too much on at once.

TheWolfAndRaven

It was a somewhat decent idea with an extremely flawed execution. There was no real way to know how it all worked without being educated (which they didn't really do in any way) and the place + name made it seem more like it was a smoothie shop than a food place. There's also an extremely high concentration of food stops in that area, which while it has a pretty high population density thanks to several large nearby apartment complexes, it still needed to do something to stand out. With the right components it would probably be a really great business model honestly. The localish food courts in town are doing great, so to convert that idea to a "take out only" model makes a lot of sense.

Emotional_Lettuce251

Midwestern, Asian surf shop?

Illustrious-Past-115

Their food isn't good. I'm surprised they're still in business.
