Ha! My cat also did the same while trying to deter him.
My go to is a compressed air can. Like for cleaning pc pets. They hat the hiss sound. DO NOT do it close to them. But from a distance. Itās like a bad hiss they hate.
Not when my cat is being bad, if I grab the can he will run away. Doesnāt quite solve the problems he creates but gets him temporarily away from causing issues.
So what's really funny is he never chills up there he just uses it as a springboard to get onto his cat tower. So even if I had the compressed air, he's only on there for a really loud and obnoxious microsecond. Of course, once I put the tin foil up there he's got to investigate and then decides that he likes it
He COULD just walk up to the tower and climb it easily but instead he runs toward it FULL speed and launches up to the top platform. This cat has no chill
Ooooh!! Mine does something similar!! We have a bookshelf under a window, nearby is a recliner!! My little psycho will charge full speed at the recliner leap onto it, and use itās rocking motion to sling himself onto the shelf where he skids across the top and lands on the speaker that sits on the end table. We have to keep the end table free of breakables because one day a glass of water got left up there and he landed on it and gashed his ribcage open. 14 staples and $600 emergency vet bill later, and heās not learned a damn thing.

Heās 14.5years old now, still psycho.
I trained mine since they were little that when I hiss at them, it means theyāre being bad and need to stop before I have to get up. Figured easiest if I just speak their language for that.
Use one that is specifically for deterring cats. The motion sensor makes sure it goes off every time the cat is there. If you are spraying it then they just learn to go where you don't want them to when you are not there.
I have considered this and was concerned. Thank you, Iāll check āem out. My cat seems to have learned that the hiss is from some areas, but yah if thereās a better way Iāll go that route.
Understandable. Like how kids learn to lie to parents to appease them. Iām going to stop with the compressed air and learn better ways for my little furball to learn.
They don't see me do the hissing noise, so it's a non issue. Just hide it behind something and they won't be able to tell where it's coming from. They just know that the scary noise happens when they jump up there.
š I have 2 who are terrified of foil and one who could not care less about it.
And, as you can probably guess, the one who doesnāt care is the š
Ohh my I didnāt know that male cats get jowls when theyāre not neutered. All my cats were neutered young - googled it and was met with some wide cheeked bois lol.
Orange deterred by orange... Strange yet maybe practical.
What worked for me was simply keeping everything off the counter. Nothing to play with or eat, nothing worth the effort of jumping up there.
Orange cats are not on the same level.
Most cats hate being sprayed with water. My orange dufus sat there and watched the water spray him then start licking it. Unfazed by it.
What *does* seem to work is forced cuddles.
He won't get off the table? Pick him up and hold him and squeeze him and kiss him. He'll run away and stay off the table. So far it's the only effective way, lol.

The face you make when your cat doesnāt cat
My cats also don't care. And putting tape on the kitchen counter? My cat: "YAY YOU CAN LICK THAT!" And then you have a cat with tape stuck everywhere... :') None of those strategies ever worked for me. Eventually you just give up.
Ugh, that's what my cats did too, when I tried foil. And when I tried orange oil. The only thing that deterred them was this horrible mat that I also hated -- when they walked on it, it emitted a very loud beep. Fortunately I only had to use it for about 2 days before they started avoiding that spot forever. (They're allowed almost everywhere, but I didn't want them on one chair because an allergic-to-cats friend always sits there.)

Moose, the one in the middle stole aluminum foil. He mad off with a baking sheet sized piece once. May God rest his soul.
I was so confused, I thought I was on the LTT subreddit for a hot second here.
Clearly your cat has an amazing taste in content, no tin foil can keep it from Linus.
*Your tinfoil mindtricks won't work on me, human* ![img](emote|t5_5vej89|33953)
You cannot play mind tricks against one that has an empty mind š¼

Heās orange. He doesnāt have the braincell to tell him he hates tinfoil.

Sounds like he needs a similar-height stool or end table to give him the spring without causing chaos.

Haha Iāve conditioned my cat to stop when I make a loud TSS noise. He immediately stops being naughty and goes somewhere else to be a baby
Negative reinforcement absolutely does not work on cats. It only hurts your bond. Please watch some Jackson Galaxy videos.
I have considered this and was concerned. Thank you, Iāll check āem out. My cat seems to have learned that the hiss is from some areas, but yah if thereās a better way Iāll go that route.
I disagree, our cats never go on our tables and counters anymore when we're around
They don't feel they are doing anything wrong, they just know that going on tables turns you into someone that frightens them.
Understandable. Like how kids learn to lie to parents to appease them. Iām going to stop with the compressed air and learn better ways for my little furball to learn.

Itās the way his expression is like āwhat?ā
Oh hey its the tech tips man
My brain had a really hard time figuring out what sub this was before I looked because I saw Linus before I saw the cat lmao
SOME cats don't like tin foil. Good luck :D
I thought this was the LTT sub.
I was furiously looking at the subreddit name too hahaha
š I have 2 who are terrified of foil and one who could not care less about it. And, as you can probably guess, the one who doesnāt care is the š
His need for tech tips is too strong!
Heās too dumb to know heās supposed to be scared of it šš Edit: LOOK AT THOSE TOMCAT CHEEKS!! He mustāve been neutered pretty late!
Ohh my I didnāt know that male cats get jowls when theyāre not neutered. All my cats were neutered young - googled it and was met with some wide cheeked bois lol.
Itās adorable! I mean, people should obviously neuter their cats, but itās still adorable. š„°
Mmhmm. I enjoy the cheeks on toms while they last after neuter. Before neuter they're stress inducers
We just neutered him about a month ago and he's about 8 or so months old. I've never Heard of tomcat cheeks!
Didn't work on my goober either. He treats it just like paper but with bonus crinkly noises.
My cat too. He likes the noise so it just made him get on the counter more. The thing that worked was keeping oranges or orange peels on the counter.

Thatās so adorable
I tried this with my orange. He just sat on it. They need more than one brain cell to be deterred by tin foil
So did I until I left my foil lined baking sheet out in the kitchen
He doesnāt have brain cell to know that cat should hate tin foil lol
And you thought orange cats would be reasonable? XD
My cat loves Linus too, and my husband is Linusā twin lol love this post
Cats hate tinfoil yes. That's not a cat, that's an Orange
Fair point lol
I put up tin foil once to deter the cats from getting on my dresser. My orange ate it.
They hate Linus.
Our void loves coffee, citrus and sour cream. Some cats are just brokenĀ

Instead of tin foil, I used the sticky side of those lint roller sheets. Worked wonders.
All cats I and my family ever had LOVED tinfoil balls
This one lacks the delta brainwave so tinfoil is actually useful to him
You tried psychological warfare...on a orange cat
LinusDropTips
LinusOrangeTips
"I'm orange ... your 'Kryptonite' does not work. Never will! NEVER"
That one is on OP for trying psychological warfare on an orange cat
Those types of things don't work on orangies. They're so unique
Neither of ours gave a shit about foil either, it's not just oranges!
i had a tortie and a calico who both didn't care about tin foil at all. They both had orange coloration in some places š¤£
Not if youāre an orange!
None of mine have ever hated tin foil. Most havenāt cared. Most recent loves to eat it. Canāt win.
Bro malfunctioned
Old firmware
I thought it should be crumbled so that they don't like to step on it
That's sooo orange!
Wow, does this adorable Orange have a brain cell? Surely not?!?!
they hated it if it was sticky
They don't like tin foil, but they do like aluminum foil. Mystery solved.
Not this one
Mine hates tinfoil if I wave it at her. If I put it on the counter it does nothing...
My cats also don't care. And putting tape on the kitchen counter? My cat: "YAY YOU CAN LICK THAT!" And then you have a cat with tape stuck everywhere... :') None of those strategies ever worked for me. Eventually you just give up.
My cat Pƶppis loved fetching a tin foil ball. I miss herš¢
my cats love to lay on crinkly things
Latest Ltt video. I see. A man of cultureā¦
No le puedes ver lo menso a los mensos.
Your mistake is that you used aluminum foil. It has to be real tinfoil to work.

"who me?"Ā
There is no "one size fits all" solution for cats. Just like people.
Only when it attacks them.
My cats didnāt like it at firstā¦but they realized it was no harm really quickly.
Have you tried looking for solutions on Linus cat tips?
