When you add someone as a friend on Snapchat, it alerts the user of how they were added. There are one of two options: a) the other person searched you up (search), b) their profile was recommended to you amongst others and you simply clicked add (quick add). The fact that he searched someone is embarrassing, and he is now making a joke about uni admissions.
TLDR: He searched a girl and added her manually (and she knows), now he is worrying about university.
