It takes a Twitter troll impersonating a corporation to make waves about the issue and elicit some positive action from a major pharmaceuticals company doing damage control. It really goes to show that they have absolutely no meaningful justifications for the drug's original pricing. What a sad world we live in.

HopefullyThisGuy

I think what's pretty telling is that the stocks nosedived after the fake tweet. This means people saw the announcement and thought, on reflex, "ah shit this will damage their profits and the returns on my investments". Not that the company was making a life saving medication free, which is arguably the best point to keep it alive so it could continue doing great work, but simply pulling out because they would get less money from it. Truly the hallmark of a very sane and ethical economic system.

People need to talk about the fact that they could have done this while that woman was being asked to pay $3000 a month to keep her child alive. They could have done this all along.

Chrona_trigger

I think the word for holding something life saving and needed from someone for extreme amounts of money disproportionate to how much it actually cost is called 'extortion' I believe that is a crime I'm sure it legally doesn't apply here

HarleyTye

This is still bullshit. $35 a month still isn't free, and you need SUPPLIES that cost money monthly just to administer said insulin. When they make the damn infusion sets and reserviors $35 I might be willing to hate them one cent less than I do now. People are dead because of this company and they won't ever face justice for their negligent homicide. Burn in hell, Eli Lilly. Forever and ever.

Erkengard

Yeah, it's still a lot of money for a month. Especially for people who are on the poorer end. A monthly streaming subscription in the US costs less. I'm consistently baffled why there is no public healthcare in the US. People having to decide between eating and getting meds is diabolical.

TheOnlyMotherTrucker

I think the sad part is that only now they decided to cut the price down to what will be the federally mandated price. On top of that, if a bit of deeper research is true, then it's not even the insulin they currently sell, it's their older stuff.

This. This story is purely a PR stunt and does nothing to change my hatred.

"We're stopping ourselves from committing constant manslaughter by directly and solely preventing people from getting the thing they need to not die. Please clap now."

Gamingmemes0

the most fucked up part of this is the inventor wanted it to be free but when he died his assistants sold it off to some random company for a profit the greedy bastards

ICantKnowThat

Life saving medicine shouldn't have a price for the people who need it. It's not like they can afford not to buy it ...
