Bro I was just stating that it’s weird to say that almost beating Boston and Winnipeg is a win for this franchise as a whole, which encapsulates management, owners, and all previous iterations of the roster. For this current team, and how we’ve performed this season, yes it’s a win.
I've been saying the defense wasn't helping him at all and leaving him hung out - which they definitely were. But tonight he's got to have 1 of those 3 at least. Defense can't be leaned on for any of the 3
Depends on your definition of when a team starts playing defense... theoretically if Tkachuk even remotely touches that puck that he whiffs on, the play is entirely different and we're talking about a whole different situation.
2nd goal, arguably, is major defensive lapse at the blue line and a possible screen on the shot
2nd goal I think Korpi lost his net, he was too far to the glove side.
Sure if the other team never touches the puck they'd never score - but that's a 2 on 1 shot from high in the circle with the pass well cut off. That's a save you need.
Tkachuk was going for the win - I have no issue with that play from him, can't be playing not to lose and just stopping the puck. Much prefer seeing him playing to win
Its not even that though. He got lost multiple times during the game, multiple posts, generally just looked uncomfortable. There's a reason he was -1.44 GSAA
For about two months the team was giving up 4 goals against every other game. The fact that they have gone 5 in a row without giving up 4 goals against to me is a remarkable improvement and very encouraging despite other areas needing improvement.
Team deserved both points tonight as the far beter team.
I love the way they are playing under Jacques. As soon as they stopped pouting and started listening things have done a 180.
Timmy and Chabot were both outstanding tonight.
Another great game played by the sens (the PP looked shaky at first but were able to capitalize on 2 of their opportunities), down 2-0 but tie it and an entertaining OT but we at least get a point.
Tip your cap to Swayman as he was great in this game (similar to the OT lost against the jets where Helleybuck stood on his head). 3-0-2 over the past 5 games where we have played great during this stretch.
On a separate note, can we have a word with the guys in the TSN truck who make it a point to show a close-up of every opposing fan in our building, every fucking game? It's fucking infuriating, give it a rest you nerds.
Ok well I don't really know what to tell you. I have been to plenty of Boston games and there were never that many Boston fans. It was probably because season ticket holders sold them off during that horrible stretch.
Imagine where this team could be if they'd hired Jacques Martin instead of DJ Smith. Martin interviewed and PD chose the other guy.
It's been a few weeks and they're hanging with the Bruins.
Not to pile on, but I think that's 100% true. People forget Martin was also a GM. Dorion never hired anyone who was older or more experienced than he was.
I don't think so. I thought the rumour was that McGuire reached out to Dorion about a potential job, and Dorion told him no. Then someone told McGuire to reach out to Melnyk instead, and when he did, Melnyk hired him.
I think Shawn Simpson might've been the guy to tell him to reach out to Melnyk directly, but I'm not 100% sure. Think this story came from him.
3-0-2 in the last 5 with 2 PPG and a .880 merchant in net. We’re heading to good places folks, loved to see Jacques reward pinto with top line minutes when Josh was flailing
Korpi has stopped 92 of the last 100 shots he's faced. He hasn't been bad, but when guys like Hellebuyck and Swayman pull save after save out of their ass, it's hard to keep up.
Arguably Power Play was the difference. Agreed, I wasn’t super thrilled with Boston’s goals (I’ve seen way worse), but we barely capitalized on the hundred power plays we got.
Stu easily could’ve shot the puck at Swaymans pads and got a greasy rebound which you’re taught to do in timbits but yeah let’s blame tkachuk for not being a world champion ping pong player. This sub is hilarious eh? 😂
Well if it was Stuz you know he’d bat that out of the air. But what I’m saying is THAT really was the difference whether you call that an unlucky bounce or whatever, when it comes down to it the game was closer than just goaltending, cause Swayman’s goaltending wouldn’t of save that if the puck went in favor of what Brady is capable of. You can tell because Swayman didn’t even attempt the lateral.
Goaltending was the difference - but only because Swayman was exceptional, not because Korpisalo wasn't good. He was! The goals were not especially soft and he made some huge saves, including in OT.
Are there that many people from New England in Ottawa or is it just a bunch of losers whose grandpas were Bruins fans when there were only 10 teams in the league
The lower bowl ones are largely from sens season ticket holders that sell their tickets at inflated prices for high demand teams, and corporate seats where they might have 1 or 2 bruins fans in a company of say 50 people, and when there’s only a couple bruins games a year that’s who they’ll send. As for the fans themselves, they’ve been good a long time and the sens have been bad. It’s probably a lot of bandwagoners from here mixed in with people actually from Boston.
Tough one to swallow. With how we started and carried the play for long stretches, it was a very winnable game. On the other hand, gotta commend the boys for battling back from down 2-0 to force OT and get a point.
Great game by the sens. Points are meaningless at this point so I just want to see structure and skill. We've seen that in spades the past 6 games or so.
I suppose it's that time of year again - when the sens make me believe that *next* year will be better.
He made some unreal and kept us in the game? 1st goal: no chance, 2 goal: a snipe show, 3 goal he had to cover for the pass. Not sure what else you can ask from a goalie?
When goaltending is the same issue every year, it’s how we’re playing defensively when it comes to league average numbers. It’s no surprise that the last few games when we’ve been more structured in our zone, Korpisalo has had good numbers. Unless you have elite goaltending, which only a handful of teams have, you have to limit high danger scoring chances that we tend to give up way too easily.
Can’t say every well placed shot is a no chance save.
1st goal was a slap shot from the point with a single skater between the shooter/goalie.
2nd was a wrist shot from outside the circles with a skater halfway between the shooter/goalie.
3rd was a guy on the dot who beat him clean far side.
None of the goals were weak per se, but all of them were very saveable. None of them were off of HD chances either.
Both NST and Moneypuck had the Bruins xG around 1.6 and he gave up 3. The goalie is allowed to make saves on tough shots. Can’t just brush off every nice shot into a corner as a for sure goal.
Reducing Pasta's goal to a slap shot from the point is insane. He was top of the circle, right off the draw, and one of if not the best shooters in the league. And that was 0.6 xG from an AVERAGE shooter.
Even if you consider the Pastrnak goal as one he had no chance on, he still gave up two more goals where he had a great chance to stop.
This isn’t just a one off game where had wasn’t at his best. For the majority of the year he’s had games like this. Where he isn’t terrible, but is below average. There’s a reason he’s near the bottom in every major goalie stat.
I think you could argue the Frederic goal was a bit soft, but I'm not blaming Korpi on 1 or 3. And I've been quite critical of him! He just wasn't the problem tonight. The Senators played well enough to win and got goalie'd. It happens.
They’re still high danger chances, the team ahead of him has to do a better chance to limit them. He made a lot of high danger saves tonight to help us
A slapshot from the point with a half screen from a dude 15ft out is not a high danger chance. A wrist shot from the top of the dots on the rush with another half screen isn’t a high danger chance.
Korpisalo made some good saves tonight and actually did stop all of their high danger chances. None of the goals were weak goals, but a bunch of medium danger goals going in isn’t good enough.
The team limited Boston, one of the best teams in the league, to 23 shots and 1.6 xG. That’s a great job defending.
Teams are going to give up chances every night. Almost every goal against starts as a mistake from someone. The goalie is supposed to bail the team out when that happens.
He's stopped 92 of the past 100 shots he's faced. And how are you gonna claim "unscreened shots" when the first goal against tonight, he was screened by Kelly (same as the one goal he let in on Tuesday)
He's had rough stretches for sure but that's coincided with the whole team's defensive structure being a gongshow. It's not a coincidence that the past 4-5 games where we've played solid, defensive hockey, his numbers have improved. How many goalies need to come through here, get pounded, then go elsewhere and find success for us to stop blaming the goalies and realize there's an underlying issue (that seems to finally be getting fixed)
I usually give Korpi a pass but he literally is incapable of being clutch. Just have zero confidence in him when every shot from anywhere on the ice is a danger to him.
Also most emotion I've seen out of Chabot in years tonight.
Last number of games overall team is looking way better.
Jets and Bs to OT is a win in my books lol
He’s cost us a bunch of games. People here adore him though. If the fans clench at every shot against, doesn’t matter from where, imagine how anxious the team in front of him has felt all season.
We are a different team 5 on 5 right now. I'm very impressed with the way they are playing.
Norris and Tkachuk need to be split up. They are both struggling.
Sanderson is the man.
Dominated 1st and 3rd periods, but Korpisalo really struggled. Overall great effort tonight, should have won 3-2 in regulation but a poor call by the refs took away a goal.
God I love sports fans. In a game where we had 6x as many PPs as the Bruins, and where the Refs made the correct call on a hand pass, it's the refs fault they lost 🤣
Disappointing way of ending this game for sure but man if someone would have told me few weeks ago we would get one point against one of the best team in the nhl I would have never believed jt. Definately heading in the right direction.
Feels so good to cheer for our team in a good game. It’s so much better to lose this way, good game against a great team. Things may actually be turning around for us FINALLY. Really happy about it.
Bruins fans are unbelievable, their team played like shit but they moan about the refs instead of enjoying their win. Having 6 penalties to 1 doesn’t mean anything in a vacuum.
We looked really great, honestly better than the MTL game. Defense was solid and took away a lot of chances. Korpisalo was not good. It’s too bad.
Frustrating as fuck we lost our last 2 over time games after plays where we missed opportunities. Chabot wiffed vs Winnipeg and Brady wiffed tonight and those could've been the difference. Stu was playing like a madman in that OT, would be nice to some of that from the captain, i love Brady but hes has a few too many no shows this season for me.
I disagree. With Sanderson there he can force the player. Odds are the pass isn't getting through clean with Tkachuk coming back/Sanderson forcing the play
Brady not gonna sleep tonight after that whiff. I don’t blame him for it but to look at that much net only to lose the game immediately. Gotta hurt.
But still what a game against an elite team. We’ll take the point thankyouverymuch
He has 18 points in his last 20 games. 25 in his last 30. In the past 5-10 games he’s been leaning into his powerforward playstyle a lot more and has been his best he’s been all year, points or not.
Everyone's mad at Brady for missing a bouncing puck going Mach 3 but not at Kelly for standing infront of korpisalo for the first goal or korpisalo letting in some goals where he looks slow as a turtle...
Team has been playing very well lately. Basically since the Sharks game. They’ve really clamped down defensively and almost cut their HDCA in half. Makes me more annoyed that they held onto DJ for so long. Imagine if they made the change a few weeks earlier when they had all that time off.
Sucks that goaltending was the difference again, but that’s the case. Putting up an 870% isn’t good enough, and -1.4 GSAx isn’t good enough. Korpisalo has been playing better the last few games, but this was more like the Korpisalo we’ve been seeing all season.
Even with the Sens playing much better defensively and controlling play more often, it still stands out that the goalies are still not great and it wasn’t all on the defensive play.
Korpi needs to work on angles. That i
Ot goal has no chance if he just cuts the angle down, the Bruin coming down right wing was covered so just play the shooter. The other two goals were well placed blocker side shots and a third was going in until it hit butt end and knocked the stick right out of his hand. Hopefully the new goalie coach can work with him on this.
Man, am I glad we signed korpisalo instead of taking a run at swayman last off season.... /s. That kid is a beast and it's boggling to me that no one at least fired across an offer sheet at a cap crunched Boston team...
Was at the game. Boston played great, lots of blocked shots/passes. Korpi was Korpi, felt our neutral zone play was great. D was good overall. Happy with the loser point.
It’s too bad it’s basically too late for loser points to matter. If we can learn to play like this in November we are a wild card team or better easily
Point against Boston and Winnipeg, I don’t give a shit that’s a W for this franchise
Being annoyed at only getting 2 points against Boston and Winnipeg is more like it. It's growth for sure.
Fully agree, 6 weeks ago we would have gone down two in the first and buckled from there
Yeah maybe it’s unfair of me to say but I feel like if DJ is still here these are 5-1 losses or some shit so there is definitely a real improvement.
Oof that hurts
"this franchise" is an odd way to word it. "This team" sure
I’m French doing my best
hahaha my b
Gotta keep things normal around here for 'ol u/Big-Ticket5868
It's not that deep u/Spez_Dispenser
You should be saying that to yourself, what does it matter if someone calls it “this team” or “this franchise”
Bro I was just stating that it’s weird to say that almost beating Boston and Winnipeg is a win for this franchise as a whole, which encapsulates management, owners, and all previous iterations of the roster. For this current team, and how we’ve performed this season, yes it’s a win.
“It’s not that deep” someone once said.
No one said that bro you’re drunk
Bro you literally just said that, thats what I was replying to in the first place what are you on about 😭 You gotta be the drunk one,
“This club” is the way to go
I think "us" suffices.
Fuck off
5 games with less than 4 or more goals against. The team may no longer be terrible defensively.
And for the first time I'll agree that it should have been less, Korpi got too cold back there and couldn't step up like the rest of the team.
Mate, Korp is statistically the worst goalie in the league this year. The first time???
I've been saying the defense wasn't helping him at all and leaving him hung out - which they definitely were. But tonight he's got to have 1 of those 3 at least. Defense can't be leaned on for any of the 3
Depends on your definition of when a team starts playing defense... theoretically if Tkachuk even remotely touches that puck that he whiffs on, the play is entirely different and we're talking about a whole different situation. 2nd goal, arguably, is major defensive lapse at the blue line and a possible screen on the shot

Its not even that though. He got lost multiple times during the game, multiple posts, generally just looked uncomfortable. There's a reason he was -1.44 GSAA
Defense is looking better, forwards are playing better defensively too. Just need goaltenders to step up
We spent almost a full period against them with an extra player and weren't able to score during that time.
For about two months the team was giving up 4 goals against every other game. The fact that they have gone 5 in a row without giving up 4 goals against to me is a remarkable improvement and very encouraging despite other areas needing improvement.

Nice to see Chabby playing well again!

My god bruins fans are so obnoxious
This really got to me tonight, leaf’s and habs fans sure, I get it. Seeing that many bruins jerseys absolutely pissed me off
Yeah cause then it’s actual people living in Ottawa who support the bruins vs. Travellers coming in the city
Right? The reason Boston won is because Ottawa is brutal on the PP
As a panthers fan, I know
Toronto though 😂 “WE WANT FLORIDA”
They were chanting both we want Boston and we want florida
Oh god lol. Didn’t go to a leafs playoff game here in Florida, but did go to two bruins playoff games here and they were insufferable lol
Why is a panthers fan here?
Cause I love hockey
And we love the Panthers, you did the world a great service eliminating Toronto and Boston.
They're called massholes for a reason
Props for coming back in that game. Mental space is better that's for sure.
The upside is we still got points in our losses. Previously we couldn’t even attempt going OT with how bad we played under DJ
We played a good game, got a point, and it was against the second best team in the league. Can’t complain there
The fact that we came back from down 2-0 means so much more than I think people realize.
agreed. We even had a really close goal called back, so I wouldn't be surprised if we won that game if the call on the ice was correct
Huuuuuuuge!
On a separate note, can we have a word with the guys in the TSN truck who make it a point to show a close-up of every opposing fan in our building, every fucking game? It's fucking infuriating, give it a rest you nerds.
Meh, I still take it over Sportsnet any day
Absolutely. But TSN5 is our regional broadcast, wouldn’t mind a bit of homerism like we get on TSN1200.
🤣
I was at the game and it was pretty much impossible for them not to. The building was like 70% Boston fans.
I find that hard to believe, the last Sens/Boston game I went to was like 25% boston fans, and most of them were in the 100s
Ok well I don't really know what to tell you. I have been to plenty of Boston games and there were never that many Boston fans. It was probably because season ticket holders sold them off during that horrible stretch.
Boston had no business winning that game
They were 100% on the PP though.
They had 22 shots on goal. I'm surprised they didn't score 4 goals!
Imagine where this team could be if they'd hired Jacques Martin instead of DJ Smith. Martin interviewed and PD chose the other guy. It's been a few weeks and they're hanging with the Bruins.
Dorion doesn’t want people who are smarter than him working under him
Not to pile on, but I think that's 100% true. People forget Martin was also a GM. Dorion never hired anyone who was older or more experienced than he was.
Which eliminates about 95% of the people on the planet...
Wouldn't shock me if true. Was probably happy when Melnyk hired McGuire, he knew he wouldn't be outshined
Yes, it was Shawn Simpson.
I'm fuckin' happy with that loss.
Of course that Ratatouille looking bastard scores the game winner…
LMAO
3-0-2 in the last 5 with 2 PPG and a .880 merchant in net. We’re heading to good places folks, loved to see Jacques reward pinto with top line minutes when Josh was flailing
Hate to say it, but goaltending was the difference. Defense was solid enough to win that game
Too bad they had the #1 and #2 goalie to choose from
And we had #59 and #60 lol
Korpi has stopped 92 of the last 100 shots he's faced. He hasn't been bad, but when guys like Hellebuyck and Swayman pull save after save out of their ass, it's hard to keep up.
Both OT goals are goals he should have had. It’s not about pulling saves out of his ass, it’s about stopping basic shots.
He was bad this game. The last 2 goals he let it were soft as hell.
Exactly what I said would be going into this game. Swayman is just a fucking goat rn
Arguably Power Play was the difference. Agreed, I wasn’t super thrilled with Boston’s goals (I’ve seen way worse), but we barely capitalized on the hundred power plays we got.
Well missing the puck completely which led to the odd man rush on that wide open net was the difference
You know it was bouncing, yeah?
Stu easily could’ve shot the puck at Swaymans pads and got a greasy rebound which you’re taught to do in timbits but yeah let’s blame tkachuk for not being a world champion ping pong player. This sub is hilarious eh? 😂

The latter for sure. Sports fandom is always about winning, so people choose the easy teams to cheer for so they can brag about it to others lol
They're Sens season ticket holders that jumped ship a few weeks ago.
Their franchise is 3x older than the Sens and has cups... I don't think these are fairweather Ottawa fans...
The lower bowl ones are largely from sens season ticket holders that sell their tickets at inflated prices for high demand teams, and corporate seats where they might have 1 or 2 bruins fans in a company of say 50 people, and when there’s only a couple bruins games a year that’s who they’ll send. We were robbed of playoff hockey this year. This is a good team
It’s a good team underneath that played abhorrently bad for the months that matter
GG Got Goalied
Anyone know what happened to Greig?
Good catch… I don’t remember him in the.. 3rd?
That korp contract hurts
He looked like hogberg on that last goal but I can’t complain with how he’s been lately
Rough game for sure. Soggy has to get the next start
He made some unreal and kept us in the game? 1st goal: no chance, 2 goal: a snipe show, 3 goal he had to cover for the pass. Not sure what else you can ask from a goalie?

His contract and the Norris one may both become very detrimental to the success of this team.
Korpisalo can’t be relied on to make a big save. He’s such a boner killer.
Ahhhh tough one :( We have a point streak
Bruins gotta be the luckiest team in the league, everything goes in for them
Two elite goalies leaves a lot of room for error
100%
A well earned point, anyway
Yeah, they lost, but that was still a good game.
Honestly a good game by the sens. Managing to get a point in games against the Bruins and Jets tells me this team is on the right track.
Korpisalo and unscreened shots from afar lol how long are half of you going to defend this guy
Can't win with such a low sv %
He's stopped 92 of the past 100 shots he's faced. And how are you gonna claim "unscreened shots" when the first goal against tonight, he was screened by Kelly (same as the one goal he let in on Tuesday)

Fuuck I wanted that one so bad. Still though, super impressive effort again. Keep this up and this will be a friggin good couple of months. Goddamn it
I usually give Korpi a pass but he literally is incapable of being clutch. Just have zero confidence in him when every shot from anywhere on the ice is a danger to him. Nah Swayman won them that game
Exciting end! Real unfortunate that puck jumped of Tkachuks stick. Ah well
The lack of back check was disturbing. But we’re playing better hockey we had points in our past 5 games.
That is a game where DJ’s classic bounces comment would be 100% valid.
Good fucking game gentlemen, heads up
good game though
Solid effort against a tough team. Nothing much to complain about. Still optimistic.
Korpi lost us that game
Nah, Swayman won them that game
Swayman kind of annoying tbh
That goalie chest-bump was NBA cringe but maybe I'm just bitter.
Hella cringe celly acting like it's NCAA hockey
We are a different team 5 on 5 right now. I'm very impressed with the way they are playing. Norris and Tkachuk need to be split up. They are both struggling. Sanderson is the man.

We should've won.
Boston feels like a heavier team.
Disappointing way of ending this game for sure but man if someone would have told me few weeks ago we would get one point against one of the best team in the nhl I would have never believed jt. Definately heading in the right direction.
Huge point. Great comeback. They’ve looked so much better lately.
Feels so good to cheer for our team in a good game. It’s so much better to lose this way, good game against a great team. Things may actually be turning around for us FINALLY. Really happy about it.

We looked really great, honestly better than the MTL game. Defense was solid and took away a lot of chances. Korpisalo was not good. It’s too bad.
Chabot and Sanderson both looked so fucking good tonight. It is so clear that Chychrun is the odd man out here.
Just once can the goalie win us a god damn game. Besides that the boys are killing it the last few games.
I’m just here to downvote negative shit
It's important to have life goals...
Still haven’t blocked me?
Why would I? I enjoy a good laugh. How about you just spread positive takes after a good Sens performance instead of whining about negativity?
That hug thing they do is so cringe ngl
Fuckin shit
Sanderson needs to understand he can take the shot in that scenario when Tkachuk back checks as hard as he does on the pass.
I don't think Tkachuk was back all the way so he had to play it almost 50/50
I disagree. With Sanderson there he can force the player. Odds are the pass isn't getting through clean with Tkachuk coming back/Sanderson forcing the play
Communication is key. Not always easy though
Our powerplay was entirely responsible for that loss. Decent game otherwise.
What are you saying? Out two goals were on PP
Yeah and they had 6 chances. Bruins had literally 3 seconds. Refs gifted us that point.
Brady not gonna sleep tonight after that whiff. I don’t blame him for it but to look at that much net only to lose the game immediately. Gotta hurt. But still what a game against an elite team. We’ll take the point thankyouverymuch
How you wiff on that wide opened net
Pucks bounce
I’m convinced half of y’all watch these games on compressed 480p streams outta Russia. It bounced over his stick.
Brady has been brutal since calling out the fans. Couldn't control the puck all game
He has 18 points in his last 20 games. 25 in his last 30. In the past 5-10 games he’s been leaning into his powerforward playstyle a lot more and has been his best he’s been all year, points or not.
Brady has been playing great the past 5-10 games.
Oh, the luxury of being disappointed in place of having one's worst fears confirmed.
Imagine if they hired a proper coach a year or two ago
Korpi needs to work on angles. That i Ot goal has no chance if he just cuts the angle down, the Bruin coming down right wing was covered so just play the shooter. The other two goals were well placed blocker side shots and a third was going in until it hit butt end and knocked the stick right out of his hand. Hopefully the new goalie coach can work with him on this.
It is like they are trying to make the people watching from home think the arena is mostly Bruin fatasses.
As someone who was there, it was pretty much 60/40 sens/bruins fans… not quite like a game vs the habs or leafs, but certainly not ideal
Man, am I glad we signed korpisalo instead of taking a run at swayman last off season.... /s. That kid is a beast and it's boggling to me that no one at least fired across an offer sheet at a cap crunched Boston team...
I'll take this loser point gracefully lol
Was at the game. Boston played great, lots of blocked shots/passes. Korpi was Korpi, felt our neutral zone play was great. D was good overall. Happy with the loser point.
It’s too bad it’s basically too late for loser points to matter. If we can learn to play like this in November we are a wild card team or better easily
That puck jumping over Tkachuk's stick in OT - oof. Man that hurts...
Chabby, and Stu looked unreal. So happy we played with Winnipeg and Boston! Two ties, awesome!
