I saw a stat where his career pts average is higher in Ottawa than it was in Philly. I know the league is higher scoring now than it was for a big chunk of his career, but that's pretty crazy. He's still such a great player. Wish the rest of the team was better to give him some more playoff games..
[I posted this before he ever played a game with the Sens](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/xk7oyk/first_look_at_claude_giroux_in_full_sens_gear/ipcijcr/) but I KNEW he wasn't even close to "done". He may be getting older, but as you can all see by now, age isn't gonna do much to slow down his hockey IQ and hands. He is a special, special player. Hard to recognize all the beautiful nuance in his game until he's wearing your jersey.
He’s such a complete player. I really hope he sees the light at the end of the tunnel with this group and stays.
His intensity, compete level, skill, defensive acumen. He’s a great great player.
Give us one more anchor on RD and some consistency at goaltending and I think this team looks so much better for next year
I’m not liking how after the mom’s trip we reverted back to some bad habits. It’s like the boys are acting stupid now that mom’s not around. I’m glad we turned it around to night but after the 1st period I seriously thought we were a lost cause cuz these kids learned nothing
Coming in down 3, Korpi had no margin for error whatsoever. And he was flawless. Hope this is a game that helps get him back in the groove. With the notable exception of the Rangers game, he’s actually been looking decent of late.
I see Timmy and Joseph as an even better pair tbh. They seem to be really in sync, saw quite a few good moves from them tonight and we’ve seen their chemistry before.
Love that as a response game from brady. He was very noticeable out there tonight and seemed much more focused. He needs to keep it going and continue to play like one of our best players if we wanna turn it around
What a game played and comeback, Nashville scored 3 straight goals but Ottawa scored 4 unanswered goals and win it in overtime and props to Korpisalo who shuts the door down after taking over for Sogaard
Man I feel for Sogy, having his family in attendance and everything. But big big ups for Korpi. It was the right move and it paid off. Fuckin go fuckin sens go
Yeah that sucks for him. He’s still young and again like last year is being forced into action. He’s still got at least a couple years to keep developing.
There is something so satisfying seeing a game where Batherson, Stutzle, Tkachuk, and Giroux score. Like everything falls into place and your superstars get it done.
Gritty win by the boys. The top guys managed to get some goals and Korpi didn't let any by.
I wish we played like this earlier in the season, but I can only hope we continue to play more games like we did in the 2nd and 3rd.
Nice to see Jacques make the goaltending change. I doubt DJ would have done that with Soogards family there. Big win!
Chychrun was being dragged down by Chabot all night. He was absolutely brutal tonight. I hate to be negative but when is the last time Chabot took over a game, or even won us a game with a clutch play?
Both. Chychrun is coming in to his own on the right side. Bring in another solid RD (Walker, Roy, DeMelo, Tanev in that order preferred) on the 3rd pair to play with Brannstrom. That gives them options in case of injury.
Thank you! I don't understand this idea that they *have* to trade one of them. We spent almost 5 years looking for that elusive "top 4 D" before the Chychrun trade, and now people want to open up another big hole on the blueline.
The cap is going up, and most of the young talent on the team is on good value contracts. The team has decent cap flexibility, so there's no reason they shouldn't be able to make it work
I'm ok if they're listening but they better get a big haul coming back the other way.
Things change especially in the summer if he's wanting to go to Free Agency, but at this point there's no reason to make a trade just to make a trade.
Yeah we'll have a better idea of what he's looking to do in the summer. Even if he isn't signed to an extension before next season, I'd hold onto him. Worst case you can flip him at next year's deadline and can still bring back a solid return
What if they are actually playing well? Not selling then, especially a top 4 D. I just don't think it's a risk they can take with him. They'll have to firm up his future in July, can't go into the season with such a big chip having question marks.
Look how messed up Calgary is right now - they have 3 in this situation and are in the playoff fight. Looks bad for Conroy if he sells all 3 for futures, and if any of them walk it's a missed opportunity. Staios can't put himself in the same situation. Sign a top 4 RD on July 1, that way they're insulated if Chychrun doesn't want to do an extension and can trade him and still have 4 top 4 D.
Keep him as an own rental then. The idea of a player walking away as a UFA seems to scare fans & organizations more than it should. In a hard cap league you never lose a player for nothing, you essentially just trade them for cap space.
Tavares left the Islanders, and they won playoff rounds the next 3 seasons. Calgary lost Gaudreau as a UFA, but it gave them the space to bring in Huberdeau & Weegar. Obviously that move hasn't worked out for the Flames, but my point is that they had a lot of flexibility without Gaudreau on the books at $10M+.
Huberdeau/Weegar shows why you SHOULD trade someone 1 year away. Tkachuk wasn't going to sign and instead of losing him for nothing as well (like Gaudreau) they got 2 high end players in return.
The Sens are not tight against the cap going forward, this year was the tough one but with the cap returning to going up by \~4m a year the Sens are comfortable with their cap situation.
It's one thing for a very likely playoff team to keep a pending UFA. The Sens will not be that next year - they need to keep an eye to the future still so Chychrun needs to be either extended or traded in the summer.
There's no reason why they can't be a playoff team next year. A full training camp & preseason with a proper coach will go a long way. And like I said previously, if it looks like the playoffs aren't attainable next season, you can flip him at the deadline.
I don't think there's going to be any sort of Huberdeau/Weegar type of package being offered for Chychrun. If you trade him in the summer it's likely for future assets that aren't going to help the team next season
Brannatrom is so soft. I doubt he's playing for us next year.
I like chychrun and chabot but not as a pairing. They get hemmed in our own zone constantly and are far too easier to play against. Ottawa needs to get tougher on d.
Chabot should be traded to make room.
I haven't seen a huge problem with Chabot/Chyrchrun as a pair. Chabot has been making too many bad reads, but doubt that changes if he's playing with Zub.
As for trading Chabot, even if they can get a high end RD (of which I don't see any being at Chabot's level) that's still creating a fairly large hole - especially given that you're sending Brannstrom away too. Keep Chabot and sign a good RD in the 4-5m range (TONS of cap space to do just that), that way they have 5 top 4 D to mix and match pairs with and have a buffer in case of injuries.
Brannstrom I do think will get traded before the deadline. The pick now would be more valuable than his play long term. He is a good 3rd pair, but he needs to be on a pair with a big tough D.
If I had my way 1 of 2 things would happen by end of free agency
A) Trade Brannstrom, sign Sean Walker and Chris Tanev - that gives them 6 top 4 D. Sanderson/Tanev; Chychrun/Walker; Chabot/Zub - just roll the pairs for 20 minutes a night.
B) Trade Brannstrom, sign Matt Roy and a physical D like Ty Emberson - Sanderson/Zub; Chychrun/Roy; Chabot/Emberson to start - 3rd pair would get minutes cut in tight games so take best 4/6 on that night.
Less than 4 goals allowed again. Six of seven games with less than 4. Team is turning a corner defensively and is going to be competitive if they can keep it up.
Happy to see Korpisalo come in and provide some good goaltending. He made the routine stops, and some big ones when mistakes popped up.
I’d just send Søgaard back to the minors. Feel bad for him since he was rolling down there before the call up and I hope he finds his groove again, but he has not been good in his 4 appearances. Sens should not of been down 3-0 after 1.
They battled back and deserved the win. This team (if they get solid goaltending) is playing like the team we all expected to see.
A nice rebound from Korpi after a rough outing. Great character comeback win. I’m really starting to see the system click. It’s too little too late in all likelihood but I’m really starting to like how we’re playing (excluding the rangers game..)
Buddy and I got some 3$ ticket on gametime after getting all my shit done at work, what a comeback. Korpisalo made some big stops the boys rallied behind. Kudos to the boys for not folding
I was horrified to see him in there to start the second, but full props where they're due, he completely shut the door.
Hope he gets the helmet tonight, he really needed that one. I think he was playing like a man whose career was on the line.
Truth is if we play like hot garbage infront of our goalies they will look like hot garbage. Just look at Talbot now. When we had him we said the same shit about how useless he was… No, our defense was useless. Look at tonight, first period we played like hot garbage. Chabot poor coverage, double team a player instead of maybe having one player focused on maybe trying to block a shot? I’m not saying Sogard or Korpo are world beaters but back in the day with Martin we had a not so great goalie either by the name of Patrick Lalime and we still won because we played great team defense and that’s what we need to be teaching these kids. Chara was hot garbage when he played with the Islanders… but we taught him how to be a great defensive player
The Kings have been terrible as of late, they can’t score for shit, 5 of their last 9 games they scored 2 goals or less but Talbot save percentage is still .911 when he played with us he was in the .800s.
Happy to see Korpisalo come in and provide some good goaltending. He made the routine stops, and some big ones when mistakes popped up.

To be honest I don’t think so just yet. I’m definitely optimistic but if we took this team with this coach and restarted the season I think we would be more of a battle for a WC spot team.
I guess I'm not allowed to watch anymore.
Last two games while I'm watching: 8 goals against, 0 for
Last two games while I'm not watching: 6 goals for, 0 goals against
I get starting Sogaard but last game was truly the first game you can blame the loss on Korpi. In the playoffs it's not unusual to have your starter get blown out and pulled at least 1 game, 9 times out of 10 you will go back to the starter the next game and let them bounce back. Was nice to see Korpi bounce back, if they didnt pull Sogaard we wouldn't of came back.
Even my girl said they didn’t deserved to win that…
But G is always 💰, sucks that’s he’s the only one on the team that hates losing more than anything.
If it were 5-0 then that’d be more on Sogaard than the team. He let in some real softies. The Sens came back hard after the first and outplayed them for the rest of the game. They deserve more credit than saying they didn’t deserve to win that. But that’s just me 🤷♂️
I ducked out after the third goal against.
Came back with 10 left in the third.
Was pleasantly surprised.
Glad to see the big dogs do the damn thing
Bath Brady Stu and G are the ones that need to lead that charge.
Damn, I went to bed after the 1st period to spare myself staying up to watch another blowout. Now I’m waking up to piss and finding out I missed a classic. Fuck me
I’m glad I stayed up for that one. I needed that 😮💨
It’s just nice to win one
CLAUDE GIROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUX
CloJiroo!!!!!!
3-0 the most dangerous lead in hockey
2-0 vs NYR has entered the chat
4-1 to Boston says hold my beer
leafs up 5-1 is also a dangerous lead
As a Flyers fan I just busted seeing Giroux wire it home from his office. I've seen that shot 1000 times, and it never gets less sexy.
I saw a stat where his career pts average is higher in Ottawa than it was in Philly. I know the league is higher scoring now than it was for a big chunk of his career, but that's pretty crazy. He's still such a great player. Wish the rest of the team was better to give him some more playoff games..

Haha you called it. It's definitely a treat getting to watch him play every night. You're right, the details in his game are unreal.
The guy just oozes leadership
He’s such a complete player. I really hope he sees the light at the end of the tunnel with this group and stays. His intensity, compete level, skill, defensive acumen. He’s a great great player. Give us one more anchor on RD and some consistency at goaltending and I think this team looks so much better for next year
Flyers fans🤝Senators fans: Busting a nut seeing Giroux wire it home from his office.
We love him so much
Such a gorgeous goal, just absolutely gorgeous.
The Jacques factor. Horrible game on Saturday. Down 3-0 after the first. Comeback and win in OT. There’s hope boys!
I’m not liking how after the mom’s trip we reverted back to some bad habits. It’s like the boys are acting stupid now that mom’s not around. I’m glad we turned it around to night but after the 1st period I seriously thought we were a lost cause cuz these kids learned nothing
That settles it. Korpisalo is the best goalie of all time. Never any doubt
Jokes aside he really answered the bell tonight. Impressive response to last game, will see how he comes back next game
When can we extend him?
most peskiest win we got this season
Chych wiffed on a few this game but absolutely dogged that last shift. 10/10 screen on Saros after hustling back to not give the Preds a freebie
Korpi really took the Rags game personal and said fuck you to Nashville
Coming in down 3, Korpi had no margin for error whatsoever. And he was flawless. Hope this is a game that helps get him back in the groove. With the notable exception of the Rangers game, he’s actually been looking decent of late.
First time in 3 years we've won a game where we were down 3 or more. Feels good to see them pull that one off.
Who would’ve thought that eh?
Experience Jacques Martain Hockey. That game is over after 1 under DJ Smith
Best autocorrect ever! 😂
Lmao whops
Those lips…
Timmy and G should always be on the same line, am I right?
I see Timmy and Joseph as an even better pair tbh. They seem to be really in sync, saw quite a few good moves from them tonight and we’ve seen their chemistry before.

Man I feel for Sogy, having his family in attendance and everything. But big big ups for Korpi. It was the right move and it paid off. Fuckin go fuckin sens go
He is only 23, it’s extremely rare for goals to thrive at that age. He will get there. Idk if he will be an NHL starter but I think he will get there.
Yeah that sucks for him. He’s still young and again like last year is being forced into action. He’s still got at least a couple years to keep developing.
That was such a fucked up messy OT lmao. I love it
Sens now have 12 of a possible 18 points in the last 9 games (.667 Win%). Sprinkle in games against COL, BOS, NYR and WPG.
As great as that is, unfortunately a .667 win% through the rest of the season still won't be enough to get this team in the playoffs.
Maybe not, but maybe it will convince Staios that (lack of) coaching was the problem and to not make a dumb trade to "shake things up"
Ya I wanna keep the boys. Chych, Joseph, Kelly, all those guys have been great for us as of late. Kelly in particular is killing it in JM’s system
Nah, get reliable goaltending actually worth 5x5. This streaky goaltending isn't enough. It may get you the wild card, but you'd be out it round 1.
Need >0.75 to make the playoffs. Wish we started the season with a proper coach
https://i.redd.it/q7pu7th5uhfc1.gif JM walking into the dressing room after the game
There is something so satisfying seeing a game where Batherson, Stutzle, Tkachuk, and Giroux score. Like everything falls into place and your superstars get it done.
This team is built different lately. On to the next win. Go Sens Go.
I'm utterly shocked. And Korpi was a wall. Who saw that coming?
🙋🏻♂️
He's been rough, but there's an NHL goalie in there. Not elite, but he can get a team to the playoffs.
same here, korpisalo gets way too much hate from the filthy casuals
I really hopes G gets to one day play playoff hockey for his hometown team
Gritty win by the boys. The top guys managed to get some goals and Korpi didn't let any by. I wish we played like this earlier in the season, but I can only hope we continue to play more games like we did in the 2nd and 3rd.
Will Korpisalo be the Matthieu Joseph of next season. Stay tuned to find out
“Sticktooitiveness”. Guy Boucher probably somewhere
This feels weird
PESKYYYY

Six in one, half a dozen in another. So whoever gets a better return.

k
It's copy pasta haha, it's a joke
oh ok, I didn't recognize it so it went over my head.
This is one greasy bowl of 🍝
i have a bad feeling its chabot. Chyhrun gets a good return
WE CAME BACK TO WIN WOOOOOOOO
Done that a few times lately (or at least force OT like the boston game). JM is working wonders.
Trail by at least two, get points Bold strategy but it’s getting exhausting to watch
Less than 4 goals allowed again. Six of seven games with less than 4. Team is turning a corner defensively and is going to be competitive if they can keep it up.
I love giroux so much. I just wanna hug him and keep him forever
Korpisalo just out played Saros. lol
We fucking won! P-E-S-K-Y
We are how you say “pesky?”
This team ffs. What a win. Good on them for sorting it out after that terrible first period.
I feel like the only aspect of Girouxs game that as suffered due to age is his tank. Besides that it’s all still there.
CLAUDE THE GOD
Happy to see Korpisalo come in and provide some good goaltending. He made the routine stops, and some big ones when mistakes popped up. I’d just send Søgaard back to the minors. What a comeback, boys. Hopefully we use this momentum to crush Detroit.
Great comeback. The wife even cheered when G scored. Thats sayin something.
Pesky sens!!! Love to see it :)
Buddy and I got some 3$ ticket on gametime after getting all my shit done at work, what a comeback. Korpisalo made some big stops the boys rallied behind. Kudos to the boys for not folding
Korpisalo deserves an apology
Right after he’s done his lol
Full props to him, he had a good final 40minutes. But 40 minutes of good goaltending doesn’t erase half a season of poor goaltending.
I was horrified to see him in there to start the second, but full props where they're due, he completely shut the door. Hope he gets the helmet tonight, he really needed that one. I think he was playing like a man whose career was on the line.

100% facts
Despite their best efforts to lose, Chabot and Chych were dragged to victory by Giroux.
You clearly weren't paying attention to Chychrun backchecking to break up to 2 on 0, then flying down the ice to provide a screen on the game winner
Who had the giveaway that led to that 2 on 0? Oh right, Chych
Happy to see Korpisalo come in and provide some good goaltending. He made the routine stops, and some big ones when mistakes popped up. I’d just send Søgaard back to the minors. This is a playoff team with decent goaltending.
To be honest I don’t think so just yet. I’m definitely optimistic but if we took this team with this coach and restarted the season I think we would be more of a battle for a WC spot team.
LOL no. Roster is not built for playoffs.
I guess I'm not allowed to watch anymore. Last two games while I'm watching: 8 goals against, 0 for Last two games while I'm not watching: 6 goals for, 0 goals against

TBH that 1st period could’ve easily been 5-0 NSH that’s why. But gutsy win so we take it.

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! SHOUTOUT KORPI PLAYING GREAT, AND THE BOYS ON THE SICK COME BACK BABY
RESILIENCY
I didn't watch the game. Not the greatest game by Sogaard but they pulled it out eh?
What a fucking comeback. What a game. GO SENS GO
Korpi was great. Made the saves they needed. Hope he can keep that going
Usually I'm very critical of Sportsnet but not a bad broadcast for the Sens.
I ducked out after the third goal against. Came back with 10 left in the third. Was pleasantly surprised. Glad to see the big dogs do the damn thing Bath Brady Stu and G are the ones that need to lead that charge.
Took my dad to the game for his birthday, safe to say ended up being a great night. Building was buzzing
Damn, I went to bed after the 1st period to spare myself staying up to watch another blowout. Now I’m waking up to piss and finding out I missed a classic. Fuck me
