I planted mine a while ago, grew them all the way, harvested the seeds, and nothing. I haven’t done anything with them since besides leave the fully grown trees there. It still wasn’t marked as done yesterday and I hoped it would be fixed with the new patch. And then randomly just now when I logged in I see it’s marked as done and the patch hasn’t happened yet. So I’m confused but happy!
I finally could do it after a week of trying!!! You have to plant the white ones and wait to be fully grown then yo press the “R” button (I play whit nintendo) keep it in the inventary and plant them again in your house!! Sorry for my english!!!
I was stuck on this quest for the longest time as well. Planted like 15 trees, grew them to maturity. Planted all 5 seeds at once and grew to maturity again. Nothing. Even submitted a ticket.
In the end, I ended up doing just as was mentioned. I planted all 5 seeds at once, watered, and basically stayed on my plot for the first growth cycle. When they ticked over and needed watering again (they weren't even mature)...my quested updated to 5/5 and let me continue.
I mean they're probably going to fix it in about 8 hours when they do the update.
My gosh I hope so. I fully intended to try the stay in place method but forgot I was doing that and left to buy butter. So frustrating

I stayed with mine overnight and got it by moving one of the trees. Hopefully the update fixes it but if not!

I finished it yesterday. I planted my seeds, then stayed on my plot for 2 in game days and watered them when they needed it
