Yeah, ideally, you'll probably want an aoe type skill and a single target skill, then a few ulitity skills. You don't have to use every single slot.

Aware_Climate_3210

If you can play Diablo you will be fine. The people complaining come from a subsection of POE1 players that play one button builds. Not all builds are like that even there.

There's no way to tell because we don't know how many "meta gems" willl exist in PoE 2 to grant us automation for our combos and save us from having to use too many different skills. When I think about mandatory hotkeys on the PC that I would use in every build, then I would go with: * Movement (WASD) * Dodge roll (Space) * Movement/escape skill (Shift + Space) * Single target DPS (Left click) * AoE skill (Right click) * Two extra DPS/utility skills (Shift + Left Click, Shift + Right Click) * A combo finisher like the Falling Thunder skill (Middle click) * Flasks (Mouse wheel up, mouse wheel down, plus Shift modifiers) I don't imagine many builds would go around needing more than 5 active skills, so I'm not really worried about feeling overwhelmed at this moment.

I just realized that without Click to move, I'll be able to utilize 3-5 mouse buttons. That will be really nice to limit the left hand strain.

PoE2 can't come sooner enough. This whole strafing/kiting movement in my fingers are starting to hurt.

Sad-Childhood2393

There will be something called "meta gems" that let you kind of automate some skills. So i wouldn't worry about button bloat too much.

eno_ttv

Honestly, we don’t actually know yet. There will be variation in certain builds requiring more or less but I wouldn’t be surprised if 6-7 skills is about the average, with some of those being situational skills.

CloudConductor

Most poe 1 builds use a single attack with maybe a few utilities. There will be other slots that are just dedicated to turning auras on or off. Things like flasks can add to the button presses but poe 1 at least gives us tools to automate that once you get into the end game. I’ve found d4 to be much more button intensive than poe 1 is currently. Poe 2 does seem like it’ll be a bit more button intensive with its focus on combos. But overall I wouldn’t be too worried about this

JohmWickkk

You can automate some skills with certain gems and you can assign different skills by holding shift. Shift+rmb would be a different skill than just rmb. That alone makes me not worry at all about keybinds. That's 4 skills on the left and right mouse button alone.

BongoChimp

I think for PoE2 it will be really nice to play on controller. And while i think it will be perfectly fine to play on keyboard, the addition of WASD movement means ill probably be looking to get something with an analog stick for movement as i really dislike needing to move my hand around when playing. Im seriously considering getting an Azeron keypad just for PoE2

Thotor

> do I need to fill both bars to play at a high level? I highly doubt you would ever need the second bar except some edge case for specific build.

mike5011

There's no reason to be worried about bloat in POE2 as far as we've seen. I'm also new to the franchise and as far as I can tell, POE2 is a brand new game.

crusher_seven_niner

Games not out why are you thinking about this

psychomap

You'll probably be fine with 3-4 skills plus flasks. There'll always be something extra you can tack on for some situational usage (e.g. if you have some sort of stacking buff to release, or a skill that you use after building up a stun on strong enemies etc.), but it won't be necessary. PoE1 is dominated by 1-button builds, if they move the meta up to 3 or more it'll already be progress. I personally find their approach of up to 13 active skills *limiting*, but I'm aware that that's not a popular opinion.

Teralial

I'm curious where you're getting the "13 active skills" number from. My understanding is that you are limited to 9 total skill gems + 1-2 more that can be gained over top of that in some instances, such as scepters or grenades. Unless you mean skill gems with active skills + dodge + flasks.

having played TERA I can tell you that you should not be using wasd to move. Use esdf instead so that you can bind more keys around your movement. qazxcvgtr become available for skill + 2345 in poe1 my skill binds are asdfg+zxcvb for pots qwert with the mouse buttons you should end up with plenty of available keys. If you're going to use mouse for movement then there shouldn't be any issues. you should easily be able to get 10+ keybinds if you move everything down to asdfg as your main bar, qwert as secondary(pots), zxcv tertiary (buff skills).
