It's called a gantry (not sure of spelling) it logs when you cross and determines the toll for the distance traveled. They're using these instead of toll booths now.
Looks like Florida sunpass.... Essentially a "toll by plate" system. If it's anything like sunpass you'll love it... They basically don't send you a bill until you forget you were ever even on that road... Or until it's stacks enough that your bill is like 80 bucks instead of the dollar or so it would normally be. Lol "it's better for you" as they say ...
It’s not specifically for toll by plate. It’s mostly for EZpass, which is about 90% of the traffic. It will read the transponder as you pass under it, instead of at the toll booths. The on and off ramps should be much simpler to navigate without the weaving and merging needed for toll booths.
It will also have the toll by plate readers.

This construct for payment is based on the license plate and trust. I suspect [license plate cloning](https://www.reddit.com/r/Pennsylvania/s/vv9clZq83g) will become a bigger problem as ppl financially struggle to care for themselves during inflation.
They’re lasers…if you don’t pay the toll, they disable your car. Then a little dude on a scooter comes up and collects the money.

No. Not even close. It's Open Road Tolling like we see in NY, IL, and MA. Once completed, the toll booths at the exits will be removed.

The vast majority of the construct for payment runs through EZPass. Which is also on these gantries.
Can't wait until wintertime when one of the salt trucks takes them down.
