We haven't seen much of him yet, but I am confident that he'll be a reasonable pick for the role. Based off of what we've seen, I think he fits the whole mailman/postal guy well, which is a good vibe to have for the god of travelers. I think the casting has been one of the stronger aspects of the show so far so I'm not too worried. Also the fact that Hermes only appears in like 1 scene in each book so it's not like he's gonna be a major factor in the series.
I’m seeing the vision. Alexander Hamilton is a workaholic absentee father and husband who is unfaithful to his wife and just so incredibly busy and too important to the nation to look after his home life. And Hermes? Busy god, absentee father, many partners and resulting children, too busy to really care for any of them. I get that Lin has done a lot of goofy sitcom roles (nothing rhymes with Canada!) and written for a lot of Disney kids movies, but he can handle a complicated character with serious regrets and motives.
Idk when it became cool to hate on Lin but I think he's an extremely talented person, and as a casting choice I think Hamilton and Hermes give off very similar vibes, very much smarmy asshole type.
He's talented, yeah, but like... not in acting?
And like, Hermes *isn't* a smarmy asshole, he's one of the few gods that's generally helpful and not totally dismissive of mortals
PJO Hermes:
* powerful, but mostly works in the background of even more powerful figures
* Has a mischievous streak, pretty brash, and (especially when younger) tended to get himself into trouble and then talk his way out
* His job keeps him always on the move
* Loves his kids, but struggles with how to really be there for his family
* >!Some of his mistakes have alienated members of his family!<
* >!By the end of the story, ends up grieving for a beloved son!<
* >!In the aftermath, works toward rebuilding relationships with the rest of his family!<
Sooo what I'm saying is.... PJO Hermes basically *is* the Greek god version of Alexander Hamilton. XD
Honestly, I love this casting!
Solid argument. In my point of view I would just have said they have the same mischievous / fidgety energy, high charisma despite having this unassuming postman energy, he's just perfect for the role. And yeah we've just seen him for, like, three seconds and an episode trailer, it's hard to assume anything of his performance at this point. Having read the books and not seen the cast beforehand, it took me a second to understand he was Hermes, definitely matches what I had in mind for the character. Guess it was the same for Riordan
>they have the same mischievous / fidgety energy, high charisma despite having this unassuming postman energy, he's just perfect for the role.
Great description! Yes, that sounds spot on for both characters, as well. I think he'll be a terrific fit.
I think it’s mainly based off the casting choice of Hermes not his actual performance since we’ve only seen so little. At first I didn’t like the choice either, but it’s growing on me…
It’s Lin Manuel Miranda. You know what you’re getting in for. He’s maybe given 1 good on screen perform and it was curb your enthusiasm. He plays lin Manuel Miranda in everything. Have you seen him in his dark materials?
> Lin Manuel Miranda doesn’t give off the ‘vibe’ of being the god with the most kids
The man is incredibly handsome, he likely gets so many single woman who get a bit too close to their mailman
Eye of the beholder, like Aphrodite demonstrates. I personally don't see him as "incredibly handsome," but I'll give him "cute."
As for the part where he's the god of travelers, whose Roman counterpart is the namesake for the fastest-moving planet? Sure, give that role to the fast-talking, fast-rapping Manhattanite! (I've also heard Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias joke that "Puerto Ricans speak Spanish like there's a time limit," and Lin *is* Puerto Rican...)
People who are "upset" that "hermes has the most kids" didn't even read the fucking books.
He \*doesn't\* have the most kids. His cabin has the most kids... not his own kids.
Y'all really bitch this much and didn't even read the books.
That is literally not what the books suggest. He looks after travelers, so wandering kids are his bailiwick. Gods don’t even need to leave home to get in trouble. The only one of his sisters Zeus \*doesn’t\* get with is the maiden goddess Hestia.
Hermes having the most kids doesnt mean hes the attractive god, it just means he has a lot of charisma.
LMM is a theater kid that gave himself the lead role in a musical that he wrote, and we were all okay with it even though the man can't actually sing. You can't tell me that'd nit charisma. LMM gives me Hermes energy.
Do we actually know he has the most kids? It was always my understanding that he had the largest *cabin*, because unclaimed kids were in the Hermes cabin.
>He absolutely gives off mailman vibes
You have me hollering here 😂😂😂😂
I honestly don't mind him being hermes. My only slight issue is that he probably cost a lot of money that could have been better allocated if they had hired someone less known.
Coming here after the most recent episode: I really like his performance as Hermes. He brings the quick-wittedness we expect from the trickster god, while also playing into the more serious side of Hermes.
I don't think Hermes was ever described as the hot Guy getting all the girls (overexaggerated).
But I love LMM as Hermes. In the books Hermes Always have me the vibe of chill and caring Dude, even thought He has absolutely No way how to Show that to His Kids. And Lin does give me this vibe
I don't not see it, but I'm just getting a little tired of him being everywhere. Of all the big celebrity castings we could have gotten for one of the gods, seeing him as Hermes was not the one I expected, but then again I probably should have lol.
See him everywhere? Besides Hamilton nothing for me
Maybe you watch to much tv lol, genuinely though where have you seen him outside of Hamilton and this
Lol right? I do see his name a lot in credits but it's been a while since I've seen him actually in anything. I had to look it up to make sure it's not that I don't watch much of anything he's in but he hasn't been too active since 2020 when Hamilton made him even bigger. He mainly does lyrics and composes music. The most recent things he has produced was The Little Mermaid live action remake and the Aristotle and Dante movie but he was not in those.
Also sidenote, it reminded me of one of my favorite random [cameos of him](https://youtu.be/NtywOoT4KMs?si=SnpxbJfpJa_TdjB3&t=54).
I think he hasnt been appearing to be as active, because hes landing bigger roles that arent as frequent to each other.
Looking at his roles on IMDB prior to Hamilton because of another thread, he has a lot of random unnamed/background character roles or characters that only appear once or twice in a series roles. Looking at the ones *after* Hamilton, it looks likes hes landing less roles overall, but the years he remains on those roles is longer. I think hes just taking quality roles over quantity now.
You were talking about Hamilton, and I mentioned a notable role he had after (Season 2 and 3 were released after IMBD's listed date for Hamilton but Season 1 did technically air before). It doesnt matter if His Dark Materials ended in 2022, it's still after Hamilton.
He's credited in a lot of other roles afterwards too including voice acting (apparently Bluey too funny enough).
I dont believe people are being literal when they say hes everywhere, people are just making note of the fact his name, face or voice has appeared in a lot of media in the last few years.
Again that’s on them imo. Not everywhere imo
To me everywhere is like Taylor Swift during the first few games after she started dating Kelce or Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas” during the holidays, after Hamilton I never saw him like that again.
Telling people they have no life for seeing an actor in a lot of things that you never saw him in, is a bad way to show your opinion. You can have an opinion, im not saying you can't, but that statement was why I jumped in.
Before you claim "but I didnt say that", saying "Maybe you just watch too much TV" is literally the same thing. Other people can have opinions based on what they've seen, not just you.
Who knows, maybe someone only has seen the major roles hes been in and not the small ones? Even just counting those, to them, it could appear he is eveywhere , just like to you, it appears he isn't .
Edit: You edited your comment to add something that wasnt there when I initially replied. Seems pretty scummy as if you're making it look like I ignored it. You never elaborated any your opinion at all in any of your posts here until now. You literally just kept repeating "How is he everywhere?" and acting like your better than everyone else because you dont watch musicals/sitcoms (yes, I've seen your other comments to other people.) I screenshotted this entire thread as it was happening so I do have proof you edited your comment.
not a fan of that casting choice, tbh. Lee Scoresby was a texan cowboy and aeronaut and is specifically described as having an accent, one which LMM didn't even attempt.
and people were like 'oh you're just mad he isn't white' like no, someone of latin descent makes perfect sense in the role, but they have to be able to *act*
That's actually interesting.
When I read the books and then watched the show, I thought the role was well casted minus the lack of accent. It's like how Lyra not having blonde hair or Will not being white sidnt bother me
Maybe I just dont have that high of standards for shows and casting choices? I'm not sure. Casting decisions for PJO didnt bother me either, just made me wonder how they're going to handle certain plotlines in the future if they make it that far.
This is all my opinion tho and I do see and respect your points!
Edit: fixed errors
Not OP but he’s also been in Brooklyn 99, Mary Poppins Returns, In The Heights, and a few other things here and there. I’d say their use of “everywhere” is superfluous but he’s definitely distinctive and as a result stands out when he appears on screen. After Hamilton as well, his style of music is also really noticeable like in The Little Mermaid and Encanto. Given he’s had a few credits in big features lately, it’s understandable people might feel he’s a bit suffocating
His writing style has been leased to Disney for their past 3 musicals not accounting for all the other movies and musicals he had writing credits for. If you’re a theatre person you can point out and lmm song witching seconds. He did a lot of cameos interviews and public appearances over the last 8 years. He’s been miscast in other projects too and is not a good actor at all.
Disagree with last sentence based on the three roles (Hamilton, HDM, PJO) I’ve seen, and as a person who isn’t into musicals that’s probably why he ain’t everywhere really
Agreed. He seems to be in everything Disney. And of course he has to sing or at least hum. I don't like big celebrities tbh because I can never see them as the character, only as the celebrity.
he’s not *in* everything disney. he was only in hamilton (is it now disney? not sure of the rights) and mary poppins. maybe you’ve seen his name bc he composed the music for moana, encanto, and the little mermaid (and maybe more) but he’s made some amazing soundtracks (and money) for disney over the years, so they keep hiring him for more and even put hamilton on disney+ (notice no other original broadway shows are there) he made disney money, so they rewarded him and made them *both* more money. randy newman did all the toy story’s, monsters inc and cars soundtracks (that’s 9+ movies) i think lins name is just more recognizable bc it’s 1) a recognizable name, but also bc of the insane hit hamilton is/was and how annoyingly catchy his songs are- always becoming big hits and winning grammys and tony’s. can’t blame the guy for being talented
What has he been in for Disney? I know he's written lots of music for them, but I can't recall actually seeing him in anything Disney except Mary Poppins.
I’m my personal experience just looking around the world it’s usually the average looking men that get the most. And I’m not saying they ugly but not like hot hot or model material 😭. Idk but literally almost every of them I’ve talked too pulled so many ladies and got with so many chicks.
You did say model material. Can't imagine that can be about their personality. Also how could you possibly know their character without knowing then personally?.. unless you do, in case which I guess you are more entitled to talk about them than I am, though preferably maybe don't, for moral reasons, but your choice!
Um yea model material!? You saying you see model material men everyday? Don’t lie now it’s okay to say they are average man it’s not gonna kill anyone. You are so mad because I said average guys can pull a lot…….. if I didn’t say looks OBVIOUSLY IT WAS THE PERSONALITY….. you are kinda psycho. Seriously why the fuck are you mad 😭 because I don’t know every single one of them personally?? Fucking weirdo
You have nothing to say because you shouldn’t have spoken up to begin with. Mad because I said average guys pull? You must be special. You gonna answer the why are you mad part or are you stuck looking dumb🧍🏽♀️
I have nothing to say because your comment doesn't make sense and I don't care enough to ask you to explain. Sure I could be ugly but it doesn't matter in the slightest because people I care about love me for who I am and not because of the shape of my nose. You can live in your assumptions, about strangers on the internet and also about actors you know nothing about. You are right I shouldn't have spoken up cause wtf is this😂 you cant even hold a civil conversation
Your argument doesn’t make any sense!! Wtf are you talking about? I said average guys get some, obviously that fucking means personality. What are the fuck are you even arguing for??? You are saying people get with others for personality and I clearly said the same shit. You are slow. What are you saying that am I not saying. Like be so fucking fr you are so dumb
Hermes goes around looking like A middle-aged man with an athletic figure slim and fit with salt-and-pepper hair, as a jogger. I mean that sounds like Lin to me a bit so I get the choice
he’s always given me the vibe of a dad that cares but has no idea how to be a dad and his family doesn’t really care for him except when he is needed
That sums up Hermes perfectly
Does it every actually say that hermes has the most kids? The reason the cabin has so many campers is because of all the u claimed kids
He’s the god of travellers, so he quite literally gets around a lot. He always seemed to be the most involved in the mortal world, so it’d make sense.
well going by the book poseidon actually has the most kids out of all the gods, but that’s including all kids mot just demi gods
True. I guess it would be more accurate to say Hermes has the most demigod children.
Even then it's probably Apollo who has the most. Pretty sure he had the most that were actually claimed and even then he has plenty of unclaimed.
We haven't seen much of him yet, but I am confident that he'll be a reasonable pick for the role. Based off of what we've seen, I think he fits the whole mailman/postal guy well, which is a good vibe to have for the god of travelers. Also the fact that Hermes only appears in like 1 scene in each book so it's not like he's gonna be a major factor in the series.
They’re gonna milk him and throw him in as much as they can. White millennials and gen xrs love him. It’s really only gen z that doesn’t like him.
I’m seeing the vision. Alexander Hamilton is a workaholic absentee father and husband who is unfaithful to his wife and just so incredibly busy and too important to the nation to look after his home life. And Hermes? He's talented, yeah, but like... not in acting? And like, Hermes *isn't* a smarmy asshole, he's one of the few gods that's generally helpful and not totally dismissive of mortals
He seemed fine in what I saw of His Dark Materials
Really? I thought he gave the worst performance in the show. Even the kid with the knife acted better than him.
PJO Hermes: * powerful, but mostly works in the background of even more powerful figures * Has a mischievous streak, pretty brash, and (especially when younger) tended to get himself into trouble and then talk his way out * His job keeps him always on the move * Loves his kids, but struggles with how to really be there for his family * >!Some of his mistakes have alienated members of his family!< * >!By the end of the story, ends up grieving for a beloved son!< * >!In the aftermath, works toward rebuilding relationships with the rest of his family!< Sooo what I'm saying is.... Very well said! 👏🏼 I loved LMM as Hermes
Have you seen His Dark Materials? He’s great as Lee Scoresby.
Solid argument. There's a Hermes discourse? What? He ain't even appeared yet what is going on with this sub 😭
I think it’s mainly based off the casting choice of Hermes not his actual performance since we’ve only seen so little. At first I didn’t like the choice either, but it’s growing on me…

Why does this fandom have a problem with everything 😭 it's honestly such a turn off
I just found out about this “discourse” I roll my eyes every time I find out about a new one
Yo why are you getting downvoted for saying the same thing
People are weirdos
> Lin Manuel Miranda doesn’t give off the ‘vibe’ of being the god with the most kids The man is incredibly handsome, he likely gets so many single woman who get a bit too close to their mailman

Arguing semantics. The clear implication is that Hermes has a lot of kids because he’s traveling and fucks a lot.
That is literally not what the books suggest. He looks after travelers, so wandering kids are his bailiwick. Gods don’t even need to leave home to get in trouble. The only one of his sisters Zeus \*doesn’t\* get with is the maiden goddess Hestia.

i dont think he really fits hermes but i do think that if i was a kid and my dad was lmm i would betray him too
IJBOL
I love the casting choice.
Do we actually know he has the most kids? It was always my understanding that he had the largest *cabin*, because unclaimed kids were in the Hermes cabin.
He just doesn’t have the fun youthful energy of the god of travels and mischief.
>He absolutely gives off mailman vibes You have me hollering here 😂😂😂😂 I honestly don't mind him being hermes. My only slight issue is that he probably cost a lot of money that could have been better allocated if they had hired someone less known.

His Dark Materials
Oo I gotta finish that But I found him good in that plus that ended 1-2 years ago How is he everywhere lol

No he attempted it for the first couple scenes, drops it and then it just kinda comes and goes for the rest of the show.

Ah but you see When you don’t like musicals or mist sitcoms, life is a breeze
He’s in Brooklyn 99??
He played Amy’s brother in Season 6
Oh of course!! How could I forget!

He’s had credits on almost every major movie musical since Hamilton. Watch his dark materials. The kids in that show act circles around him.
HDM stands for His Dark Materials I don’t compare like that, I thought he played his role great.
Agreed. He seems to be in everything Disney. And of course he has to sing or at least hum. I don't like big celebrities tbh because I can never see them as the character, only as the celebrity.

What has he been in for Disney? I know he's written lots of music for them, but I can't recall actually seeing him in anything Disney except Mary Poppins.
At least it’s not Chris Evans 🤣
I’m my personal experience just looking around the world it’s usually the average looking men that get the most. And I’m not saying they ugly but not like hot hot or model material 😭. Idk but literally almost every of them I’ve talked too pulled so many ladies and got with so many chicks.
Oh god knows maybe some people actually have and value great personality as well. Shocking amiright
Well duh what do you think I was referring to their looks??? Just said they were average obviously it’s the personality
You did say model material. Can't imagine that can be about their personality. Hermes goes around looking like A middle-aged man with an athletic figure slim and fit with salt-and-pepper hair, as a jogger. I mean that sounds like Lin to me a bit so I get the choice
Lin is not shaped like a runner at all.
i just saw him in His Dark Materials and enjoyed his acting, so I don't really have as much of a hangup about his acting as most people seem to
I always just assumed he had the most kids because Hermes is the god who has to interact with mortals the most regularly
I have many issues with this series, but I actually think Lin is a good cast for Hermes. I think it’s a fun choice!
