As if someone as terminally online (and having as much pervy dialog as she has in P5 and Strikers) as Futaba wouldn't be looking at stuff she was too young to be looking at.

But the only time he has ever (to our knowledge) tried to kill someone was with the absurdly elaborate assistance of the Japanese Illuminati to create the most convoluted trap in the history of ever so it looked like an accident. (And he still screwed up the execution). He doesn’t allow himself to revel in mayhem except in the metaverse and maybe in an alternate timeline or two.
I don't like him either though he's honestly too pitiable and sad to hate, and it's funny to think that would be something that would piss him off to no end.
You \*really\* need to play through the "true" ending. Honestly!
But also each to their own.
I think his Confidant arc and the Third Semester events add a \*lot\* to Akechi's characterisation for those of us playing in the Western world. In Japan the way he struggled and eventually cracked apart makes a lot more sense. His heritage and upbringing, his mother's suicide, even his family name, are all taken as grounds in that culture to shun somebody from society. And all this based on the whims of one callous abuser. Combine that with Akechi being a distraught, impressionable, child, when he "lucked" into his Metaverse power, and you get a perfect storm of revenge fantasies plus "my only-way-out".
And then Joker shows up, wrecks all of it, and in the process shows him a better path he never thought of, one he feels pathetic for not realising himself and believes he's now too late to step onto.
Personally I think the way Joker sees Akechi is telling regarding how the dev team were hoping he would be received. If you choose the right dialogue options, Joker is seen to reflect on his tragedies, wishing he had been able to step in earlier and do more to help - much as Akechi says he wishes, long before. He also considers Akechi a true and worthy rival (whether you ship that or not) and another soul trapped in the same cycle of fate by cruel deities and the will of mankind. "Two sides of the same coin" for sure.
Actually, this user and I have had a nice conversation on a different sub, where we talked about the comparative merits of going back to enjoy Royal. So it made sense to suggest. Especially given everyone else here doesn't have that context and is simply reading them as a troll poster to shut down.
Speaking of which; he's definitely still a villain (at least in semester 2). But it's possible to be the victim of abuse and manipulation as a minor AND to be responsible for others abuse and harm at the same time. Half of the success of P5's story is that most of the characters aren't sparkling pure or unsaveably rotten (bar specific few). It's about changing the whole background heart of humanity for the better.
