Someone needs to ask the city to bring in summer public skating, it's a great way to cool off and the ice isn't used at various parts of the day.

Kinsmen has ice right now on one pad but there is no public skating that I am aware of. Please complain. The more of us that do the more they may listen. Public access to cost efficient ice is lacking. We need stick and puck and public skating sessions.

Stick and Puck would be awesome.

Call the city and ask if there is any public skating available during the summer. Kinsmen has 2 pads and they usually have one with ice at this time of year.

I emailed the recreation department last week and was told that public skating is not available as they only have one ice pad open in the summer. They suggested I keep an eye on the page because there are sometimes special events. This is disappointing. While I do not believe the ice pad is constantly in use if it is, does that indicate a high enough demand to consider opening a second pad if it is? Unfortunately, the odd public skate on a civic holiday, usually packed with people, doesn't cut it for those who want to keep their skills sharp over the summer. Cobourg and Lindsay both offer several public skates each week, which is surprising given their population size in comparison with Peterborough. Travelling nearly an hour each way to skate is not a viable option for most people. Having ice time available to the public has so many benefits. There is, of course, the fitness aspect, but skating also provides social opportunities and can be a welcome reprieve for those who may not have a lot of options for being active while getting out of the heat, such as seniors and folks with limited disposable income. I would also think that hockey players and figure skaters might be at a disadvantage compared to peers in surrounding cities with a lack of practice time outside of team practice.

That's a pitty we don't have a regular public skating program in ptbo. Last week on Friday they had free public skating on kinsmen arena. Guess public were poorely informed about it, there were only a handful of people on the rink, which was surprising for a free event on a friday evening. That was nice but I guess it was a one time occasion. I'll followup from them and update if they have any future plans for public skating.
