I dont know about Raya Solutions, but di ba medj blurred lines ng difference between an Engineer and a Developer. Why not got for a job not for its title but what you want to do. Check mo rin job description and contract to see if no red flags like bond or mahabang render period. - ako na title ay “IT Development Resource” …

katharsais

can vouch on this atleast not on software dev vs eng, pero as an analyst, because I find myself doing business intelligence essentially lol, it's just literally up to the company how they define what that role is going to do.

plowerpuffdraws

Sure, let me explain. I am currently a ‘Software Engineer’ but my role mainly focuses on monitoring and maintaining the availability and response times of servers, databases, and applications compared to being a ‘Software developer’ who would rather be able to create applications. My passion is more on the creation of applications/infras so I am finding other jobs and led me on startups as I have researched that theyre good for improving my skills.

SHMuTeX

Software Engineer and Software Developer are more or less the same. Your JD seems like your work is more on IT and not software engg/dev.

ivan2639

Software engineer is not limited to monitoring/maintaining the availability of servers/db/apps. That is more of a general IT work. The actual difference was discussed to me way before. Software engineers are basically software developers but they are involved (more) with the planning and design (engineering) of the software. Software developers on the other hand are more focused on the coding part of software.

plowerpuffdraws

Ohh, thank you for clarifying and yup aside from monitoring applications, we do design and plan our own tools for monitoring those applications and such. It’s kind of a mixed up DevOps and Software Engineering but I don’t actually think about it too much as I rather want to be a Software Developer. The reason why I posted is because I have a current JO with the role I want to be - Software Developer. But I feel like the company who had given me the JO is shady so I needed a legit checking 😫😭

solidad29

They are both the same terms. If you tell that to me, they are the same thing. Maybe analyst or Production support would be appropriate.

girlwebdeveloper

I got both titles in my last job in a global company. I'm doing dev work. Pero Software Engineer ang tagging sa amin before it was changed to very specific Web Developer. I did research out of curiously, tama pa rin yung Software Engineer since I'm doing all the cycles ng engineering in my work (that plan, build, test, etc etc that is also practiced in other engineering disciplines like civil engineering).

If ganun want mo, di kita pipigilan haha. Pero kung ako sayo, madaming company dyan. Di ko nilalahat start up pero wag dun kasi madaming red flag.

Difficult-Judge-9080

Gamito din ung sa akin 2 names, iba pang front for marketing purposes then iba ung mga pang paperworks. Lol

plowerpuffdraws

Thank you for your help! I am actually considering another company who had also shown interest in me and it is a well-known company now. Hoping that I can get in. 🤞🤞🤞

Ganyan galawan sa start-up. If the CEO is there he can decide there and then. Kaya ndi ganon kabilis ang offer mo. Given na ganyan kabilis, I would take that the org structure is pretty much flat, and it could be a good or bad thing. Good thing is if the CEO is technical and well-rounded. So if you need something, you can immediately get a resolution sa need mo. If the CEO is a micromanager. Well, RUN. Do remember na start-up companies are unpredictable. Kaya don't expect na tatagal ka in for more than 2 years. Also reason, I don't partake in Start-ups anymore. Masyado nang risky. Pero kung young ka pa naman at early in your career, go ahead.

plowerpuffdraws

Di ko po kasi gusto itong first job ko from a global company which is monitoring lang ng applications, mas gusto ko kasi maging dev and here is an opportunity to develop my skills sa gusto kong career path, sa startup. Can you give me an advice kung mas ok na sa well known companies nalang ako magapply?

ongamenight

Did you ask them about company culture, work environment, work address? I think you can do an office visit just to check if address is legit, not necessarily entering the office but asking the guard of the building. Looked at "Raya Solutions" via web search and ang daming same name na company. I personally think it's a red flag if naka-off cam yung panels sa interviews lalo na kung wala naman on-site. How else would you know they're legit (e.g. name matches the face if searched online). Good luck.

plowerpuffdraws

More thinking on my end. Thank you for your insight!

plowerpuffdraws

Theyve explained the company culture, work environment, but not the complete address. They told me na marami raw kapareho ko na scholar of some govt agency sa company, and ok naman daw company culture nila. For the address, they just told me that its in Galleria. Ive searched for all of the panel in LinkedIn but only one of them has a photo. The one who contacted me on LinkedIn is using a different account which is said to be the HR Manager. There was also the CEO who have not spoken during the call. Im scared as I have sent them my CV with my address on it and photo.

DisAn17

Is the company name in the contract? If yes and they're registered in SEC, you can search them here https://checkwithsec.sec.gov.ph/ . This assumes though that this is a local company.

finish-na

"At will" ba yung employment contract nila sayo OP? Not sure if this is true.

Can you explain po kung ano yung “at will”?

🤣 Read your contract again to check if meron nga.

plowerpuffdraws

Oh shocks meron po. You’ve given me a deciding factor po. Walang job security huhu.

girlwebdeveloper

The most reliable way to know if they are legit (lalo na kung walang makakasagot, like as you said, it's a startup) is to actually visit their office. There could be very few applicants and few employees, you might not be able to find the answer. The other alternative is to look it up sa Google maps and see for signages. Pero kung maliit na office sila with 10 employees or less and they are in tall building CBDs, then looking at google map isn't applicable. But yeah, it's alright to suspect if something is off. Your gut feel might be right.

cocojam01

Parang dodgy tol.

PepitoManalatoCrypto

**I am surprised the company is still labelled as a start-up for six years already.** So makes me question how small where the details of the job offer and how much difference are we talking about? I'd be honest with you from the comments, you're part of the DevOps or Application Support or SRE than being a Software Developer. **Anyways, try to question their job description more and what you'd be working with. You're entitled to have this follow-up interview with them.** Should they be cautious about this, don't take the job whatever the offer will be. I mean if we're talking about at least 100-150k offer wherein you're coming from 50k, well, you'd want to take it and job hop after 6 months first. Otherwise, the difference isn't big even if coming from 25k to 50k (more of not worth it).

lolomopogi
