What do you mean "the opposite"? It supports split tunneling (on Windows, at least) in the sense of either sending certain programs through the VPN OR excluding some programs from the VPN.
If I ONLY want spotify and qbit to be through the vpn, it would be easier to say, "only these 2" versus saying "not app 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 etc" And yea, i know u can bind qbit to the vpn, but for other apps.
On Windows there are these options:
* Split Tunneling (On/Off)
* **Mode Options**:
* Exclude apps/IPs from using VPN tunnel
* Only included apps/IPs will go through VPN tunnel
* Apps (List)
* IPs (List)
I might be mistaken, but I only remember there being lifetime *raffles*, so don't recall it being possible to actually outright buy a lifetime license?
I remember not long after their launch there was an open sale of a small number of lifetime accounts, can't remember exactly how many but a few hundred I'd imagine. There's also been some raffles they mentioned in emails over the years.
i use mullvad and had no problems with torrenting stuff, and its good for public wifi like on my college campus since the only way i can play online games is using wireguard port 53 bc they block udp traffic + its cheap 5 euro month.
If you plan on seeding torrents afterwards then yes, because they've removed port forwarding. If you are just downloading from a public tracker and not seeding after then it is fine.

for my use case the search engine isnt a huge issue for myself, needed split tunneling as i only plan on having my torrent software, maybe more to come in the future. thanks for the advice tho!

Proton VPN or Mullvad, I wouldn't use anything else.

IIRC windscribe is based in Toronto Canada so unfortunately it doesnt fit the criteria, decided to go with Proton VPN
