I wouldn't even have a problem with a little advertising, but they've gone way overboard. I still remember exactly when I started blocking this crap. When I was taking a shower and got an hour-long ad in a 20-minute video. It was just too stupid for me afterwards.

They don't vet ads either. So many scams. It's safer to block them.

They should be forced to stop trying to bypass anti-malware (adblockers are at this point) or manually curate all ads *before* they can be shown, and held directly responsible for any scams that get through this process.

That's been my biggest issue. No one likes adds, but in the past I didn't care too much. They were infrequent and mostly benign. Google (honestly every advertiser) should be held at least partially resplnsible for every obvious scam that they take money to platform.

I was gonna pick up YouTube premium once I graduated university but at this point I just don't wanna support them.

Does Youtube premium somehow skip sponsor parts of videos as well? Because if not (and I assume so), it's not worth even a dollar a month as it's *not* an ad-free experience *at all*.

I have no problem with static image ads as long as they're tasteful...it's when they start popping annoying videos up or create these animations that could cause an epileptic seizure and make it so it scrolls down with you so you can't get past it...enough is enough.

I will legit stop using the internet for anything other than *required* things if I can't stop blocking ads. When I jump on someone's device with no ad-blocking, I all but visibly flinch.

Edit: aparently doesn't block YouTube ads anymore but most other trackers and ads will be blocked network wide I believe pi-hole should do that, but it does require getting a raspberry pi and setting up pi-hole, I dont think its difficult tho

Yea it’s a must have for me. You can even set up a vpn and block ads on your devices away from home. It’s always a little jarring when I use the internet on someone else’s device cause I’m so used to not being bombarded with ads. You don’t actually need a pi or any physical device. It’s possible to set it up on a free tier oracle cloud instance.

What the extension? Of course. It blocks all kinds of stuff in tandem with privacy badger and my network level ad blocker. But YouTube ads have always played fine. Unless there's some extra setting somewhere specifically for YouTube?

I forgot what I even use, but youtube doesn't like it, so I refresh till it works.

YouTube got the better of adblocker for me, at least temporarily. I wanted to see something on youtube that second so I turned off adblocker. And what was google in such a hurry to show me? Gambling ads. Fucking gambling ads. It's like google just wants to ruin peoples lives, showing them ads for addictive pursuits, and pushing right wing conspiracy theories.

I used to not mind the youtube ads. They were short and often skippable. Skippable was a unique feature. "No, this ad doesn't apply to me in the slightest." Skip. or "Oh, what is this? I'll check out this ad." Watch. I guess they got greedy. Now they are long and often not skippable. So now they all get blocked.

Yes, I believe there's adblocks available for Safari. You could also try Brave, which is a browser with a built in adblock. I sometimes use Brave when I'm not using Firefox. Some VPNs also have an adblocker.

Why can't you tube show a 4 or 4 second banner add that disappears after a few seconds. I was watching a soccer game and when there was an interruption to the game, they djpwrd a banner add really quick and then went away. Why can't they make a very subtle ad?

Actually, the reason I bought premium was because vanced was having a bug on several phones in which the playback would work till 1 min into the video, then it would be stuck on loading. Great to know that it's fixed now.
