I wouldn't download anything that is an executable from the pirate bay but there are tons of old torrents for TV and moives there that I can't seem to find anywhere else. Especially after RARBG died.
Just don't be an idiot and TPB is perfectly fine.
I believe you can share links as long as it's not a direct link to pirated content.
So surface level sites and legal github sites and the like are fine, but magnets and download pages are not.
I thought soulseek was *only* for "DMCA-Free" or "CreativeCommons" music or whatever, why do people recommend it if it doesn't have any familiar bands?
Yeah I found a lot of albums there that I couldn't find on any public trackers I know about.
I would recommend only going one album at a time, and I've noticed a lot of problems when trying to download multiple albums. I went a little crazy when I first heard about it lol
Yeah, PDFs are more like containers than what you might think of as a traditional document. A PDF can contain not just javascript that can be triggered upon opening, but also enables the storage of arbitrary data in the form of content streams. Typically these would be things like images or fonts, but in reality they can be anything.
- https://blog.idrsolutions.com/what-are-form-xobjects/
I only know this because I've been working on a PDF editor lately, and it's become painfully obvious that this container is a weak point in every system.
Tell your friend to be up-to-date in piracy space. The original Pirate bay got shut down by FBI and EU, and all the original founders were caught and thrown in jail.
Pirate Bay is just an indexing site, so it does not have the main files but rather list that where is the files located. So many people downloaded the index (it might be even less than a GB of data). After the original got shut down, many people made clone and started running it, some for continuing its legacy and some for malicious purposes.
So The current Pirate bay website that you see is just some clone where there is no quality control and moderation. You can easily get a virus from there.
1337X, Torrent-Galaxy, Bitsearch are the new Go to site for Torrents.
If your friend does not accept it just let him be, when he will get a virus then he will understand.
TPB Founders Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Gottfrid Svartholm didn't get locked up forever. They served 5 months 10 months and 3.5 years respectively.
TPB AFK was an interesting documentary about the platform that came out in 2013 worth the watch.
Here's an updated abridged explanation for my ADHD friends:
The existing TPB sites/proxies track legit scene members. (See: Haxnode for an example). Unfortunately there are scammers and industry shills who upload bogus infected installers but this happens on all the torrent trackers mentioned. Also some of the TPB "proxy" sites contain malware themselves, but again I've seen this on the above-mentioned trackers as well. Speaking of which, back in the day I would use a tool to search all the popular trackers at once (there were add-ons to search additional trackers beyond OOB offerings) called Torrent Harvester. You could query all of the trackers at once and you didn't even have to visit their sites to download the torrents. Does anyone use such a meta-search tool for torrents these days?
Thanks, I thought it would be something like that, but didn’t know exactly how to explain it. Thanks for the full info, I do use those you mentioned, anyway, thanks again
No, the current thepiratebay(org) is not a clone, it wasn't even shut down because three original founders got in jail(they were more people than them working on it), that doesn't mean it hasn't changed, it has and most of the staff isn't the earlier one. Check Supr bay(TPB forum) for more infos on it
Mostly safe. Always check the uploader name. If the uploader is any of these- "DODI Repacks, FitGirl Repacks, and KaOsKrew" they are good. But try to avoid IGGGames they have once hidden malware in their upload. I would suggest read the mega thread. It has all listed sites for games, movies, everything. Check that out here: [Megathread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/wiki/megathread/)
(Torrent Galaxy is mostly for Movies and TV)
I'll start by saying I'm a noob. I know how to use pirate bay, but couldn't figure out 1337x, I came to the conclusion that's it's broken or I am missing something.
So seeing it recommended here and other threads, has me confused.
It's simple use adblocker for one...open site....select or search torrent click magnet ..the only thing I don't like is there's no way to just click it from the search list.ugotta open the page for torrent u want to get the magnet
So with that will it give you the magnet on the main say "trending" page with that extension? I have tapermonkey ...do you know what the script is called.
Yep, every torrent will get magnet and torrent file icons.
[This is the one I use](https://greasyfork.org/nb/scripts/373230-1337x-magnet-torrent-links-everywhere)
>Give me arguments to fight jt pls
Well, TPB is unmoderated, meaning anyone can just upload anything. That isn't good when talking about downloading stuff like video games. There's nothing wrong with downloading movies, tv shows, music, and books from there, just make sure you're able to see the hidden file extensions.
TPB is good when you know what you are doing. That's really about it. It used to be the « place to go » but there's so many places it's not really true anymore (and that's been a while so your friend probably needs to catch up)
Because most people are here to crack games and not think too much about it. Which is fine really, I don't want to sound too elitist or gatekeeping, it's just that most people, in basically any field, aren't trying to get knowledgeable about stuff.
And I don't even use TPB anymore, but back then it was great. I'm sure it's still pretty useful, it's just that there are so many places that you can easily find what you are looking for elsewhere.
I remember back when Attack on Titan was releasing, the first releases were on TPB. If you are looking for whatever fitgirl release, then yeah there's no use in TPB.
And it's not like anyone being able to upload is necessarily a bad thing. When you're looking for either obscure or very specific stuff (especially at the earliest, right when it releases), then this might be a pretty huge advantage.
As long as it is not a .exe or .zip files, the pirate bayis fine, it still has good niche movies & shows, i use it less and less but do not avoid it permanently
TPB definitely has it's place. Do not approach without a uBlock addon, and like others have mentioned no executables. Also wouldn't torrent without a logless VPN with the torrent client bound the fuck to it and rigorously tested. Essentially enter with a digital hazmat suit. 😂
For music, they're pretty great if you want full discogs. They often have a more accurate gauge of which of these are still alive, and a lot of other torrent sites don't list them at all. A lot of this is likely due to these archives becoming a big thing with music sharing at the height of TPB. I have a entire Jellyfin library for the lives, remixes, covers, rare bsides and bootlegs in those discogs. They're also mostly 320s and flacc.
They're ok for audio and ebooks, I don't use them a lot so keeping up sources for a downloads a year at most would be silly. They're ok for lower quality video, shit tv I put on on the background I prefer to not have 4k. Main source for video is RD.
Software these days I'm going to vetted sources and using vetted cracks whenever possible. Music they're not my only source. Deemix and SoulSeek are also in the mix.
I love digital piracy because you don't need to put all your eggs in one basket, and really shouldn't. Different tools have different purposes. And I'm being shady so I always anticipate shady shit so all my devices are prepared for TPB level antics by default 😆
Tpb is fine for movies and TV. So much of my old TV shows on Plex I still get from there. Anything you need to run as an executable on a computer: absolutely not.
I still use it occasionally if something isn't on 1337x or another site. Nothing wrong with it for movies or shows or anything else provided you know how to piracy. I have been at it since Napster and still just go select my torrents from public sites. Not once had an issue. I don't install crazy exe from random places either.
Don't argue with him, I tried to tell my niece not to use steamunlocked and she said that the same thing all the tiktok pirates say and refused to think otherwise, if their computer gets a virus then they'll just have to clean it and learn that there are better, safer websites.
Pirate Bay is the go to... If you travel back in time 15 years.
Pirate Bay doesn't exist anymore. The people who owned the website quit and someone else now owns the domain. It's a fake clone of what once was. No one is running the site. No one is monitoring malware. The little icons that say an uploader is trusted or a vip mean nothing now. You're playing Russian roulette on pirate Bay.
It's true that if you're downloading something small that isn't an exe you'll probably be fine but I'd rather download from one of the dozens of other torrenting sites that don't have such a bad reputation. There's nothing on TPB that you can't find elsewhere.
Here's the thing about the pirate Bay:
Downside: unregulated and full of malware
Upside:
This. I’m old enough to have seen the rise and fall of Pirate Bay.
The only time I spent anytime on Pirate Bay was after demonoid got shut down for a period but before I found kickass torrents. Even at this point but Pirate Bay had a questionable rep.
Demonoid now and Pirate Bay now are far different from what they once were
Best advice I can give about PB is if it’s a very old still active torrent you may be ok.
Ima old pirate that used trade tapes in the mail. Little did the mailman know he was my accomplice.
Demonoid as a private tracker w prob the best community of people. Damn shame what happened to it.
Nothing wrong with pirate bay you just need to be more careful which torrents you get
I use pirate bay to get 99% of my movies/TV shows and games.
I also use a private torrent site to search for new torrents and usually just dl them from pirate bay.
So I get that 1337x is probably the best. The problem I have is that like all the ‘best’ in the past have been hit-TPB, Demonoid etc. So what’s going to stop 1337x’s future demise, and if it does, what would be your go to site?
I refuse to use a public tracker. Private is the way to go. Takes time to get in to some, but well worth it. Someone said something above about tpb being the only place to find certain movies and shows. I'm chuckling
if you know what you're doing, and its something obscure, and not the usual highly suspect or watched things, tpb can be the only place to get certain things.
that said, it's usually the last place one should be checking, these days.
Since you're asking random strangers on internet for advice... perhaps both of you are.
I am so sorry I coudn't let this one sit. Torrenting will f u eventually. Not now, not tomorrow but if you or most importantly the host is careless for a second, you will get caught - eventually. Don't go there.
Asking random strangers on the internet is one of the best ways to get information. People online know a lot.
Even if he does slip up somehow and leak his IP address (which is very unlikely as long as he has his torrent client bound to his VPN), there are close to zero consequences. 99% of the time, all you'll get is a letter or email from your ISP saying "stop it" and then they don't do anything else.
The fun thing about living in a third world country is that my ISP doesn't give a rats ass about what I do as long as it isn't breaking the law. Unless I start seeding several high profile files at once, they won't care at all lol.

Yup, I use a Pirate Bay mirror site for music and tv show downloads. Soulseek is the way for music though.
Damn soulseek was IT back in the day. That's so awesome to hear it's still going strong.
It really is and someone made a GUI for it called nicotine+. I love it. Very simple easy to use
Same, I'm very much not tech savy but it was a breeze to learn how to use.
Awesome thanks for the recommendation!
I've been using squid.wtf I'll have to give soulseek a try, thought it was dead
Yeah same, back in the day it was the only place to get good quality EDM white labels and stuff. Glad to hear it's still around
I’ve had pretty good luck using the search extension on qbittorrent from GitHub to search and download movie torrents directly from the client
how can i find that extension?
Can you share links in this sub? If you google qbittorrent search plugin and go to the GitHub page it will have a collection
I believe you can share links as long as it's not a direct link to pirated content. So surface level sites and legal github sites and the like are fine, but magnets and download pages are not.
> Soulseek How is it that it didn't get shutdown?
I thought soulseek was *only* for "DMCA-Free" or "CreativeCommons" music or whatever, why do people recommend it if it doesn't have any familiar bands?
There isn't a whole lot of enforcement of that, to be honest.
I've been ripping my CD collection over the past few months and any CD that is too beat up to rip, I've been able to find on Soul Seek.
Try squid.wtf It's a downloader for .flac files from deezer.
Sick!
Yeah I found a lot of albums there that I couldn't find on any public trackers I know about. I would recommend only going one album at a time, and I've noticed a lot of problems when trying to download multiple albums. I went a little crazy when I first heard about it lol
It has practically everything. Check it out.
R.I.P. RARBG still crying...
Got it! Thankss
Apperently im out of the loop. I thought the ones with skulls were always safe?
TV, movies and books, are fine... However games, software and anything that can be piggybacked with malware... Download at your own risk.
I'm a little paranoid about eBooks from torrents, PDFs can be dangerous.
>PDFs can be dangerous Really? Even if I'm using something like sumatra?
Yeah, PDFs are more like containers than what you might think of as a traditional document. I see, thanks for the info. What about the epub format?
Good question, I don't know anything about that format.
Thansk!

Wow! I just installed this.... Thank you again, like seriously... it is freaking awesome.
knaben.eu is my fave at the moment, if I don't have access to prowlarr or jacket that is... Fmhy.net is also a fantastic resource

I primarily use TPB. Private trackers are a PITA. It's not that hard to avoid the bad torrents.
I still use it occasionally if something isn't on 1337x or another site. Nothing wrong with it for movies or shows or anything else provided you know how to piracy. I'd tickle a sleeping dragon before downloading an .exe from there. Movies, books, and music are fine, though.
Don’t argue with an idiot… they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience
Lmao true story
Lol, because you're guaranteed a virus. So weird people slinging mud for having preferences
It’s fine, just stick to video and use a vpn.
Alright! Thankss!
It's good for stremio.
Every torrent site has stuff that you won't find on the others. Pirate Bay is no exception. Don't be afraid of using it.
Don't argue with him, I tried to tell my niece not to use steamunlocked and she said that the same thing all the tiktok pirates say and refused to think otherwise, if their computer gets a virus then they'll just have to clean it and learn that there are better, safer websites.
I had that same conversation about steam unlocked, I convinced the last one saying I saw someone on tiktok fried its pc using it lmao worked

I miss demoniod there was so much on there I can't find elsewhere
1337x is better in my experience for everything
Got it!
1337x shouldn't be trusted tho (at least for executables).
Honestly I thought piratebay was also legit until I saw a post on here today, so might be someone like me who was not up to date on the info
Yeah, but nice that you were open to learn the new ways! My friend wasn’t lmao
That I can imagine being anoyying indeed, see it like you tried to tell him.
Nothing wrong with pirate bay you just need to be more careful which torrents you get I use pirate bay to get 99% of my movies/TV shows and games. I also use a private torrent site to search for new torrents and usually just dl them from pirate bay.

pb is still fine as fuck as long as you download from users with skull
1337x is much better

Pirate bay is homeland guys. \m/
OK tell him to google it and STFU
I refuse to use a public tracker. Private is the way to go. Takes time to get in to some, but well worth it. Someone said something above about tpb being the only place to find certain movies and shows. I'm chuckling
seeding regulations can be a pain on the private ones though
Facts, that's why I DL and then seed until I can't seed no more 😜🍻
Just use torrentday like all megachads?
Private tracker?
if you know what you're doing, and its something obscure, and not the usual highly suspect or watched things, tpb can be the only place to get certain things. that said, it's usually the last place one should be checking, these days.
he dumb
Even games are fine if you're on Linux. At most, it can fuck up your Wine installation.
I would stay away from torrents completely. File lockers much safer, imo.
What is that? Never heard of it
Rapidgator, nitroflare, file factory, etc.
Ohhh I see! Thanks!
I would recommend File Factory for getting into file lockers primarily because they’re one of the only lockers with a search function.
I have no idea what that is, still. This is the first time I have seen this term, what is it? Some kind of torrent or file hosting?
Exactly, thanks
You never know how many strikes you get before they come out
