I highly suggest checking out [FiveByFiveK9](https://www.tiktok.com/@fivebyfivek9?lang=en) for more. She does some outstanding breakdowns of behavior that all dog owners can learn from, not just pit bull owners.
The difference is in the eyes and tightness of the face between the stress and happy.
Also, in aggression or fear, you won't see blinking. You'll see staring with wide, dilated eyes and tense body.
Interesting! I didn’t know that’s what it was called. My Dalmatian mix “smiles” like this when I get home from work and she comes to the door to greet me.
My pit bull used to do this when we first got her.
I’ve often thought if they’re not trying to mimic our facial expressions. Think about it: you’re probably showing your teeth when you smile at your dog; dogs obviously know what a smile means.
They do that when they are extremely happy, just like when they "sneeze" while they are playing, that means they are telling you that they are not going to hurt you. Truly amazing.
My pittie mix lady does this but with the non stop butt wag. She just looks like a goober.

It seems the head is down when stressed and the dog is not really moving towards you unless they have to.

I've never seen my dogs make that face except JUST before a sneeze. I love the pre-sneeze face.

My pittie girl greets us this way every time we come home. We love it and hope she never loses her smile.
Is he growing he doing that? If not it’s a submissive smile. Definitely looks creepy. Given he/she is wagging their tails it looks submissive
Tails a wagging! I think it’s a happy grin! 😁
What a cheesy smile.
Isn’t this a common thing for Rottweilers?
I've never owned a dog in all my years that did that and it's the first I've ever heard of it. Interesting....
Total happy smile
