It is much easier to acquire 600 film for the cool cam than it is to get SX-70 film for the OneStep. While it's smart to buy your film directly from Polaroid, that's pretty much the *only* place you can buy SX-70 film, whereas you can go to your local electronics store to grab a pack of 600. They're the same price, but the 600 film has a higher ISO. I'm a little biased. The OneStep is iconic, but the 600 cameras with the fold down flash are built super well.

You can buy SX-70 film from camera stores, electronics stores, and Amazon in Canada.

Yeah I misspoke. I meant online sellers (so Polaroid.com and Amazon). However I have been to a few photography and electronic stores in my area (not Canada fwiw) and I have never seen SX-70 film on the shelf.

pret_a_rancher

Ironically, I’ve never seen the 600 film in stores. Only SX-70 and i-type.

asingleshakerofsalt

Wow, crazy.

Vinyl-addict

Also SX-70 film is just better used on the folding version because the box just doesn’t take amazing photos.

Hey. Is this the price of a serviced camera from a dedicated photography store? Cause you will get used SX70 folding SLR cameras on 2nd hand markets in my country in that price range. And the used/old 2nd hand 600 cameras from 20-50 EUR. Depending on the condition. But of course not serviced and not sure if they are working. At your price range (100-150€) you could also have a look at the actual camera lineup. You will get more functions to get creative with and you can take advantage of the less expensive iType film. Just saying. ;)

Sandrinaaa

In my country there are unfortunately no direct sellers, so I have to let it ship and then with the shipping costs it gets much more expensive. I found a few in this price range from Etsy (Instant Camera seller), they are tested and checked throughout (or at least that's what they say). There is one dedicated online photography store in my region, which has the Polaroid 600 cool cam and it's price is 250eur, which is insane

slenz89

Again: If you‘re willing to spend 100-150€ on a Polaroid camera and you are new to this topic I would recommend the new and actual Polaroid cameras. You get warranty, less expensive iType film, multiple exposure and a lot of additional features to get creative with. :) But depends on you what you are looking for in general.

(Ebay) Kleinanzeigen is a really good place. Bought most of my cameras 2nd hand on this platform. It‘s sometimes a gamble because you won‘t know if a 30-40 year old camera is still working. But it‘s really cheap anyways and not a big loss if it‘s not working as intended if you just spent 20€ on it. That‘s part of the experience. :D

Sandrinaaa

I have not found a polaroid 600 cool cam on Kleinanzeigen for 20EUR, few for 60-70 EUR and like additional 50ish for shipping. But probably I am just not good in searching

slenz89

A lot of the Polaroid camera models are quite similar to each other regarding their functionality. I recommend not focus on one specific model. :) But if this is your favorite you have to be patient and keep an eye on the market. I check the platform almost daily.

Gabenism

The rainbow-stripe OneStep is prone to failure these days. Also sold as the 1000, and there was a similar, contemporaneous camera called the Pronto (or 2000). Both may be bought and used right now for some number of months but they inevitably fail. I believe the culprit has been old capacitors or a warped metal spring. You may have some luck shopping for those numerical model names if you just want your first Polaroid camera, and they should generally cost around $40 USD. For the prices you're looking at though, a folding camera, like an SX-70 Sonar, would serve all of your purposes.

Sandrinaaa

thank you for the ideas. I actually really like the 600 cool cam, but since I am not in the US I am not able to get it for 40-50$. The price range is what I see people selling them for on Etsy, Ebay and Amazon

Thredded

For a camera to actually use, I would definitely recommend a 600 type camera (any 600 camera) over an SX70 model like the One Step - the film is easier to get, the cameras are a little newer and potentially more reliable, and the higher ISO is much easier to shoot with, especially indoors. There’s also the possibility of (easier) conversion to itype film to save money. The only exception would be the original, iconic SX70 SLR which I’d love to own one day, but even that I’d ultimately want to convert to 600 (or itype).

Sandrinaaa

thank you

Frap_Gadz

Get a 600 camera, if you're going down the road of using SX-70 film you might as well invest in a SX-70 SLR. Is there not much a used market for 600 cameras in your region? What about eBay? Here in the UK used 600 cameras from the 80s/90s (eg 660 AF, Closeup, or even Impulse AF) can be had in used/working condition for \~£20-30. I don't know what the market is like in other European countries, but even with shipping that shouldn't be as much as €100-150 total.

Sandrinaaa

nope, not really. You can find some older vintage cameras but mostly Russian brands. I will check the UK ebay - thank you

Frap_Gadz

Damn that's a shame, there's loads on eBay here in the UK, Brexit makes customs a thing that might add a bit on to the cost so it might also be worth checking out other EU countries too.

Sandrinaaa

I just checked the UK Ebay and there are some really good offers, but I get like £67.56 for the camera and + £73.01 postage from United States, and most of them are with postage from the US. Is there a way I can look for postage from the UK?

Frap_Gadz

There should be an "item location" filter (left side on PC browser or under "filter" in the app) for eBay.co.uk there are options for UK, EU, continental Europe, and worldwide. UK, EU, or Europe should filter out the American ones.

goldblumspowerbook

For the price I would get a new Polaroid now. But between your options, definitely the cool cam. I have one I got for $30 and I’m loving it.

Sandrinaaa

Lucky you! The thing is that I love vintage stuff in general, so the new ones don't really appeal to me.
