This hasn't stopped them charging 120,000 other people with 'non-crime hate incidents' since 2018.

The [Peelian principles](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peelian_principles) of policing works perfectly fine in high trust, homogeneous countries, which tbf we're fast unbecoming.
This is less a problem with the specific method of policing and more with a government that acts against the interests of native British people. There's nothing here to "reform" specifically that doesn't begin from the top down.
You guys need a real constitution. One that’s written down and hard to change. And one that protects British subjects from their own government. I don’t see that happening soon unfortunately.
Does the US Government follow the Constitution in anything but name? Without true leaders (which politicians usually aren't), who are willing to stand on principle and pay real costs to prevent tyranny, a Constitution is just a piece of paper.
Look at the current crop of Conservatives in the UK. Their base wants them to completely roll back the Tony Blair reforms, cut off immigration from the continent, and end the government's advancement of the Critical Theory agenda. Instead, they just sometimes tiptoe around saying that Labour wants to go a bit too far, but man, they really shouldn't make dramatic changes in these trying times. Just can't get the votes, even though they have a historic majority.
Do you think people like that would stand up and defend the 2nd Amendment?
No I don’t think any British politicians would defend the 2A. The beauty of the 2A is it doesn’t need politicians to defend it against existential threats. As for the politicians following the constitution, they try to bend it all the time, but they know they can’t break it because if they do it’ll get thrown out by SCOTUS. If they try to push it anyway, they have to deal with the 2A. That’s why there were a lot of cases in Canada of the government shutting down churches, but none of that happening in the US except in states with democrat governors and generally a lot of gun control.
That's the point, though. It's not the document doing any of that. It's the cultural understanding that the government can only push things so far.
As for "they know they can't break it because if they do it'll get thrown out by SCOTUS," two things.
First, the case of Andrew Jackson's famous (and possibly apocryphal) statement, "John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it!" This is a recognition that the Supreme Court doesn't have any mechanism to enforce its will. It relies on the other branches of government respecting it in order to have the opinions of the Court carry any meaningful weight. As we saw recently in New York, if states don't like a SCOTUS decision, they'll just pass laws that blatantly violate it, and dare the Supreme Court to intervene.
Also, take a look at the case of Wickard v. Filburn, a personal favorite citation of mine. In that case, a farmer was fined for the heinous criminal act of growing wheat on his own property to feed his farm animals. This violated a provision of the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938, a New Deal program where FDR was trying to run the entire country's agriculture. The Supreme Court found, in an absurd breach of the rules of logic, that the phrase "commerce... among the several States" in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, applied to subsistence farmers growing food for their own use, because them choosing not to buy the food instead had an impact on interstate commerce. The Supreme Court only throws out breaches if they see it in their own interest to do so.
If anything, the Supreme Court has enabled the continuing infringement on such things as gun rights, where there would rightly be uprisings, by offering the label "Found to be Constitutional by the Supreme Court" as a stamp of approval on violations, which quieted the unrest, because after all, these high justices found it to be fine, so who are you, you mere factory worker, to say that they're wrong.
A Scottish guy was convicted because the judge said he turned his little dog into a nazi leader. There was no way that it was a joke according to the judge.
So no, they haven't been OK for a while.
It was even worse than that. The judge stated that context does not matter.
A journalist/comedian (not sure) made a joke about how that means the judge himself is guilty, because he quoted hate speech. Sure, it was to present what happened, but context does not matter, right?

youre actually right on this! The Communications Act in 2003, (not long after the Patriot Act) states the following:
127 Improper use of public electronic communications network
(1)A person is guilty of an offence if he—
(a)sends by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character; or
(b)causes any such message or matter to be so sent.

source - [https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/21/section/127](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/21/section/127)
Try knocking on someone's door in the US and say you're arresting them because your social media posts 'caused gross offensive' and 'made someone feel anxious'. It will end very differently.
The maddening thing is that the British police can literally tell the caller "this isn't a police matter" and none of this would've happened.
Honestly, if that ever happened here, you *might* be able to win the case if you straight-up shot the officers, since they were acting on a clearly unconstitutional law and therefore shouldn't have been considered agents of the US government, but instead people coming to your house to kidnap you.
They arrested the pleb who shared the meme, but not Laurence who posted the meme. They did this because they thought they'd get away with arresting the pleb, and knew they couldn't do it to someone as famous as Laurence.
Hey lefties, can we abolish the police [and restore firearms rights to the UK]?
Yes. Being LibRight here is pain. Especially due to our history; Locke, Smith, Mill, etc. **We** should be the crazies screaming about owning private nukes, instead we arrest people for potato peelers.
*Soros breaking the bank of England, oligarchs flooding into the country and Tory members repeatedly violating their commitment to conservative values:* I sleep.
*A single gun owner being violent:* Real shit?
I mean, it's not like they didn't arrest people for just the slightest hint of dissent in the colonies back then too. It's basically the same thing but more absurd and pointless because of internet culture.
Don't forget that when BLM protestors took over part of our capital, many BLM protestors arguably supported white [redacted] and even if they didn't, they supported many radical policies, the police allowed them to vandalise Churchill's statue and burn Union flags. Some police officers even took the knee.
When extinction rebellion blocked motorways and glued themselves to buildings, the police were slow to act.
Yet you get arrested for a meme. What a joke our country is!
I'm no libertarian and very supportive of the concept of state policing but we need to clear out the current establishment and hit the reset button and start over.

British Police: *Purposely ignore massive rape gangs of British girls by “Asian” men so as to not be called racist.*
Also British police: *Arrest some dude for sharing a meme calling gay people Nazi’s*
>Nazi Germany: you displayed sympathy for Jews which is a betrayal of the race and so we are going to lock you up
>”Great” Britain: you posted a bigoted(tm) joke about sexual minorities so your going into the slammer
Horse shoe theory in practice, i don’t know why leftists in Western Europe talk about being opressed and that their not in power when every Western European government is leftist. Nice to know the police would rather have your kids raped then someone dare be offended on funny bird app
New policing guidelines say not to do this, hopefully the people that were in charge of this get some shit.
Also, there has been a landmark case recently in the UK saying it is perfectly within someone's right to say trans(x) is not biologically (x) and not only can the government not do anything, you legally can't get fired for that either. I haven't seen anyone talk about this.
It's not his fault the "updated" Pride Flag looks atrocious. Surprised no-one thought of checking to make sure the updated lines couldn't be used to form some kind of subliminal message.
People out here literally defending it saying he’s a fascist’s that’s putting queer lives at risk for retweeting a meme, then hit you with that “hate speech isn’t free speech”. The amount of authoritarians out there is legitimately terrifying.
This is a problem in more than just the UK now. People want the police to have to be concerned with protecting their emotions, and the result of that is going to obviously have a severe chilling effect on freedom of expression. This is because people are no longer expected to be able to get used to tolerating even a little bit of offence or hurt feelings any more; which means that society has to be policed like a nursery school (kindergarten) to reflect the emotional maturity levels and sense of entitlement of the population. Except with real punishments, not 15 minutes in the naughty corner.
Since when were the coppers auth left? Last time I checked my towns community officers were pretty auth right. Or maybe lib right seeing how much time they spend hanging round the school.
Not really. Or better our police just doesn't really care as long as no politician forces them to. They have actual problems to solve and 99% of them think this laws are completely idiotic.
Oh forgot that our courts don't want these stupid things being investigated either. They are already overworked and really don't have the time for that stupid shit.
This isn't a new policy. Mearly the consequence of a long overdue law that needs reform or scrapped. The Conservatives seem to prefer to use it as a talking point rather than use the super majority to fix the issue.
Also it's less government and more a continued issue with UK policing.
The law that is used to target stuff like this was passed under Tony Blair's government, and the Tories (even with a super majority) aren't doing what they bloody well should be doing - gutting all these Blairite artefacts.
The current conservatives in charge of the UK aren't even right wing at all. They are leftists by voter standards. Plus the vague laws that dictate "hate speech" were written before Boris waddled his stubby fat legs into parliament.
If they were written anytime in the last decade they'd still be from the 'right-wing' party though...
They moan about all the right wing talking points regularly- they just don't do anything about it because why the fuck would they, that's work, they'd rather spend that time looting the country, and they don't actually believe any of it- its just to get the voters on board.
Blair resigned in 2007, and the Tories have been in since 2010 - so what's their excuse for not making the changes in the last 12 years (despite constant complaining)?
They have made good use of that time giving lucrative contracts to their mates though, maybe they'll get to it eventually, probably around the time they actually level up the north. Just one more Tory government wont hurt, right?
If we're doing the whole no true scotsman 'they're not really right-wingers' thing, shall we bring up Tony Blair again?
>Blair resigned in 2007, and the Tories have been in since 2010 - so what's their excuse for not making the changes in the last 12 years
They're not Conservative, and they like the many ways in which Blair fucked the country.
Right so because they're a joke they're not on your team. Got you.
Why is it that the right wing consistently elect them as their representatives again?
Are we pretending that Blair is *anywhere* near Boris on the 'fucking the country' scale? He's fumbled the bag so badly its blatantly obvious to anyone with a pulse how much quality of life has fallen in only the last 4 years.
Nah you're right, one dumb law passed 3 years before twitter even existed thats enabled some wank policing is way worse.
edit: I got super mad about the Tories and misread your comment a bit I think. Yeah, they do like a lot of what Blair did, like a lot of Leftists don't.
>Why is it that the right wing consistently elect them as their representatives again?
Less shit than Labour. Welcome to FPTP.
You think I like voting for those retards? Well it's them or John "my job is to dismantle Capitalism" McDonnell types in Labour. I'll take cucked NeoLibs over psychotic Marxists any day.
>Are we pretending that Blair is anywhere near Boris on the 'fucking the country' scale? He's fumbled the bag so badly its blatantly obvious to anyone with a pulse how much quality of life has fallen in only the last 4 years.
Yes. Blair changed the country radically. Boris just ran the status quo in a shit manner.
QoL in the last 4 years? More so last 2. A lot to do with Covid and Ukraine.
>Nah you're right, one dumb law passed 3 years before twitter even existed thats enabled some wank policing is way worse.

https://www.standard.co.uk/hp/front/the-blair-years-new-law-passed-every-three-hours-6587775.html
Blair was charismatic enough to force a paradigm shift. So far, no one else bar maybe Corbyn has had what it takes to do the same. Thankfully Corbyn wasn't elected, because that potential paradigm shift would've been a disaster.
An actual Tory, with the majority that Boris had, should have laid waste to Blair's legacy of retardation.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 956,993,320 comments, and only 191,035 of them were in alphabetical order.
This law was passed by Tony Blair's Labour party and you're absolutely right, the Cons have a majority and so could repeal any Blair-era law they desired and it would pass. But the current UK Conservative Party are only Conservative in name.
'We're in charge everywhere and those Wokists are still infiltrating our police! Harassing our war veterans, jailing them for even existing! Buy a subscription to our newspaper so you can keep your eyes on the culture war the Wokist Mainstream Media doesn't want you to know about'
They're not even subtle about it.
Not commenting on the country or government really. Moreso the actions of certain police forces who take liberties with stupid legislation to act as thought police, very 1984. Frankly I just more have just painted them as Auth but I thought with the subject matter it fit into the Lefts narrative.

Police Commisioner critises own force for meme- arrest: [https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/police-commissioner-criticises-own-force-over-social-media-arrest/ar-AA106AU8](https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/police-commissioner-criticises-own-force-over-social-media-arrest/ar-AA106AU8) its not happening again.
But it in fact happened. And no laws changed. So it will happen again.
laws generally dont change here, its their interpretation in the courts that changes
Until some hardo interprets it wrong again
youre actually right on this! The Communications Act in 2003, (not long after the Patriot Act) states the following: 127 Improper use of public electronic communications network (1)A person is guilty of an offence if he— (a)sends by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character; or (b)causes any such message or matter to be so sent. \- unfuckin believable! **i live in a Police State!!** source - [https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/21/section/127](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/21/section/127)
A succulent Chinese meal?
I see you know your judo sir
THIS. IS. DEMOCRACY. MANIFEST!
An armed society is a polite society.
I would cry tears of joy if firearms rights were present in Britain.

Yes. Being LibRight here is pain. Especially due to our history; Locke, Smith, Mill, etc. **We** should be the crazies screaming about owning private nukes, instead we arrest people for potato peelers.

.............. That's the point, genius.
What the fuck happened to you guys? You used to rule the world, now you arrest people for memes and “non-crime hate incidents.”
Tony Blair happened.
Something happened in the 1990s

There was nothing illegal about 99% of migrants to the UK after Blair?
Thatcher tho
That's not how the Coldplay song goes
I mean, it's not like they didn't arrest people for just the slightest hint of dissent in the colonies back then too. It's basically the same thing but more absurd and pointless because of internet culture.
Apparently the freakish horror that was at the center of Pax Britannica and the rest of the dorks in those old war games never went away
I'm no libertarian and very supportive of the concept of state policing but we need to clear out the current establishment and hit the reset button and start over.
lmao how the fuck do you guys have BLM protests when you have like 3 black people in the country and refuse to arrest any minorities because you're afraid it's gonna look racist
I guess im libright

British Police: *Purposely ignore massive rape gangs of British girls by “Asian” men so as to not be called racist.* Also British police: *Arrest some dude for sharing a meme calling gay people Nazi’s*
We are living an a society…
>Nazi Germany: you displayed sympathy for Jews which is a betrayal of the race and so we are going to lock you up >”Great” Britain: you posted a bigoted(tm) joke about sexual minorities so your going into the slammer Horse shoe theory in practice, i don’t know why leftists in Western Europe talk about being opressed and that their not in power when every Western European government is leftist. Nice to know the police would rather have your kids raped then someone dare be offended on funny bird app
Orwell rolling in his grave somewhere
New policing guidelines say not to do this, hopefully the people that were in charge of this get some shit. Also, there has been a landmark case recently in the UK saying it is perfectly within someone's right to say trans(x) is not biologically (x) and not only can the government not do anything, you legally can't get fired for that either. I haven't seen anyone talk about this.
I read it like how internet historian does “it turns out, he… did not.” And it’s like 10 times funnier
It's not his fault the "updated" Pride Flag looks atrocious. Surprised no-one thought of checking to make sure the updated lines couldn't be used to form some kind of subliminal message.
Anyone in the UK still questioning if the yanks were right to tell the crown to piss off?
When a clockwork orange is irl
I do not live in a free country
People out here literally defending it saying he’s a fascist’s that’s putting queer lives at risk for retweeting a meme, then hit you with that “hate speech isn’t free speech”. The amount of authoritarians out there is legitimately terrifying.
We need to spread that image as far and wide as we can as protest.
Aren't the Tories in charge since 2010?
Yes, and they've been wildly incompetent since 2010.
What is the charge? Enjoying a meme? A succulent natzi meme?
Bazza is a blessing to the English people
is this true?
it is
There will be severe consequences for any ‘police’ that come knocking at my door over memes I assure you that.
E\*ropoos call America a third world country and then pull shit like this
Since when were the coppers auth left? Last time I checked my towns community officers were pretty auth right. Or maybe lib right seeing how much time they spend hanging round the school.
Uk is going downhill very fast. Good. # Gott Strafe England!
You have similar laws and crackdowns in Germany too, you fucking moron.
Not really. Or better our police just doesn't really care as long as no politician forces them to. They have actual problems to solve and 99% of them think this laws are completely idiotic. Oh forgot that our courts don't want these stupid things being investigated either. They are already overworked and really don't have the time for that stupid shit.
Don't conservatives in the UK have a super-majority? Why is it being treated like these policies are coming from the left
This isn't a new policy. Mearly the consequence of a long overdue law that needs reform or scrapped. The Conservatives seem to prefer to use it as a talking point rather than use the super majority to fix the issue. Also it's less government and more a continued issue with UK policing.
Well, of course, why fix an issue and get rid of a platform to stand on? Seems like you would make a bad career politician.
Well, of course, why fix an issue and get rid of a platform to stand on? Seems like you would make a bad career politician.
The law used to target stuff like this is the Communications Act of 2003 (specifically Section 127), which was passed under Tony Blair's government.
>Blair resigned in 2007, and the Tories have been in since 2010 - so what's their excuse for not making the changes in the last 12 years They're not Conservative, and they like the many ways in which Blair fucked the country.
>Nah you're right, one dumb law passed 3 years before twitter even existed thats enabled some wank policing is way worse. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2007/jun/04/houseofcommons.uk https://www.standard.co.uk/hp/front/the-blair-years-new-law-passed-every-three-hours-6587775.html Blair was charismatic enough to force a paradigm shift. So far, no one else bar maybe Corbyn has had what it takes to do the same. Thankfully Corbyn wasn't elected, because that potential paradigm shift would've been a disaster. An actual Tory, with the majority that Boris had, should have laid waste to Blair's legacy of retardation.
Uk conservatives are far left by my standards
The Tory party has a collective IQ of less than 100
The ~~Tory party~~ population of england has a collective IQ of less than 100
And Caleb has 95 of them
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
Buy a subscription to our newspaper so you can keep your eyes on the culture war the Wokist Mainstream Media doesn't want you to know about' They're not even subtle about it.

we a literally a monarchy under a conservative government, how is this auth left Edit: why you booing i’m right
There's nothing right wing about the cuckservative government.
there is… 💀
Maybe in your delusional mind. The UK is run by two internationalist parties. I'd rather be run by Danish socdems than either Labour or Tory.
Not commenting on the country or government really. Moreso the actions of certain police forces who take liberties with stupid legislation to act as thought police, very 1984. Frankly I just more have just painted them as Auth but I thought with the subject matter it fit into the Lefts narrative.
Uh because the authoritarian left are the ones obsessed with controlling speech…
