shook_not_shaken

Frankly she's an inspiration. I truly hope to one day be as good as she is when it comes to predicting which laws will increase the value of my portfolio and trading accordingly.

[deleted]

My favorite part about her is she keeps convincing the holy mecca of progressives to keep reelecting her. Truly a master of her craft.

TheStormlands

Every challenger gets fucking smeared like no other by the media. There was a decent candidate on the left who ran against her but he couldn't get the traction.

[deleted]

Incumbents are very hard to unseat and she has a lot of political capital built over the decades.

LingLingWannabe28

Did…did Monoby say something intelligent???

shamblaza

The fuck just happened?

[deleted]

No way??? 🤯🤯😱 It’s not as though this helps her case either. So what if she has “friends in the right places” if she’s not producing results for her party or her constituents? I guess Pelosi is the safe bet for Cali voters, but the power she holds isn’t fair… or consistent with what Democrats say they want. Generally, incumbency privileges are cringe. *This is just a thought. I know nothing about the political landscape west of the Sierra Nevada*

[deleted]

I’m going to use a Pelosi quote she said against AOC and direct it back at Pelosi: You could put a glass of water with the letter D on it and everyone in her district would still vote for that over a Republican. Quote is loosely what she said, but exact same idea

No kidding, in my state conservatives are so entrenched that more libertarians run against them than democrats. Which is weird and refreshing all at once.

She had the skills of a master pimp, keeping her stable in line.

Parkwaydrive777

She saw district voting strageties and was like, "Yeah, I can turn that to 11" "Why not just make 10 louder?" Every politician then said, "These go to 11!"

papi_chonk

she’s an inspiration for what i hope to not be if i decide to get involved in politics

Apes-Together_Strong

This is like Rahm Emanuel saying Obama had the most difficult presidency of any president as if he somehow had a harder presidency than Abe Lincoln, Wilson, FDR, GWB, or really any president who was assassinated in office or who had to deal with the Cold War. It’s just so utterly ridiculous that even the most ardent supporters of the person in question will find it to be a ridiculous statement.

Picholasido_o

Washington didn't have a difficult presidency per se but he had it pretty rough too

TheKingsChimera

I mean he had to personally stop a rebellion from happening after winning against the greatest military in the world at the time.

anonamus7

And had the balls to step down from power on his own accord thus setting us on the path of peaceful power transfer!

What a fucking gigaChad

Heydensan

He's a major reason we have a nation

CountLecter

You’re telling me.. that our founding father George Washington, the General of the continental army, and first president of the US, is a major reason why we have a nation? Shocked

Heydensan

I'd say fighting a war hands on to determine the survival of our nation is a difficult presidency is what I'm saying. He was a major player before the position was even formed.

CursedWithFibro

This comment came from a place of true wisdom.

Clam_chowderdonut

I'd say many through history would find it difficult to turn down being King.

Apes-Together_Strong

Yeah. His presidency was a lot of, “How can I just not do anything because I’m tired and don’t even really want to be here... Guess I’ll make a cabinet that will function like a royal council that can just suggest things that I can approve so I can not actually do anything but make it look like I am.” His service as a general is what he deserves all the credit for. Even the good things he did as president like not wanting political parties was quite, “I’m tired and don’t want be here and don’t want to deal with that.” Still a fantastic general though.

milkypirate111

He was always fairly big on delegation but also kind on nitpicky with outsized expectations. That being said not doing much and meddling into different areas set a decent precedent.

Revydown

Yeah and it took this long for that precedent to deteriorate to this degree

RileyKohaku

We was my favorite president precisely because he saw the value of doing as little as possible. Congress passed the laws and he just enforced them. He'd be the ideal libertarian president if it wasn't for the whole whiskey rebellion taxes issue

Appropriate_Act4016

He was actually a shit general

Appropriate_Act4016

Andrew Jackson by far

PsychWard_8

Politicians like Nancy Peloci and Chuck Shumer are reasons #1 and #2 why we desperately need term limits for congress

Suitable_Self_9363

Mitch is #3

PsychWard_8

Yup

SickleWings

We should just ban all reptiles from Congress entirely. Turtles and komodo dragons alike.

[deleted]

Not term limits, age limits, no one over 65 may serve

PsychWard_8

I'd also be willing to accept that too, but I think term limits is overall better. Prevents people from making a career out of it, that way theoretically you'd only get in the people who actually want to make a difference, not gild their trust fund

PrinceWoodie

I want term limits too, but you’d still get people going into it for clout, to join a think tank after, speaking engagements; there’s still a lot of benefits either way.

Disasstah

There needs to be a drastic overhaul in how terms work and how money in politics functions as well. But it's not going to happen from within, we need to force them to do this somehow.

BigKnowledge1234

uhhh what the reason to not have term limits is so they don't use their power to set up their lives for after their limit is up. you don't have to abuse your power for profit if you can keep your job

PsychWard_8

That's great on paper but in reality career politicians almost universally use their power to expand their sources of income, despite having a "stable" job. Look at the salary of Pelosi vs her net worth, it's insane. The woman has managed to outperform the best financial firms for decades, it's almost as if she's got an inside scoop on any legislation that might cause sudden market shifts... In today's world anyone who actually makes it to congress isn't going to be wanting for a job after their term is over, it's better to limit the time they have to prevent them from making backwards laws to benefit corporations just to secure funding their 10th consecutive term and guaranteed profits in stocks in said corps

BigKnowledge1234

why do you think I'm fuckin lib brother

PsychWard_8

And this is why I'm right center.

Spoonman500

Well, as it stands they use their power to set up their lives, reap all the benefits, *and* keep their jobs. Shit needs to change.

[deleted]

That works, but I want people who aren't past their prime in office. *looks at joe biden, trump, Feinstein, Pelosi, McConnell*

raidersfan18

More like they put SSN ping pong balls in some giant hole somewhere and pull out one for each position and a random citizen is 'elected'

The ACA didn’t fundamentally change any brunt, just slightly changed the system to get more people coverage with private insurance. It’s not like there’s virtually anyone in congress who supports abolishing Medicare and Medicaid which are actual public health insurance programs.

Pelosi is a criminal that should be in jail for corruption along with many of her fellow elected officials and the fact that they will face no consequences shows how deeply corrupt our electorate has become.

darkestbrandon

No she shouldn’t and she didn’t do anything illegal. Insider trading is illegal. You people automatically assume that if a democrat isn’t in jail for a crime you accuse them of then that means that the system is corrupt. You can’t imagine that any of your conspiracy theories could possibly be wrong.

[deleted]

lmao get a load of this bs she and her husband have made a fortune off trading, with performance far exceeding all the investment banks and other industry players out there she literally knows and controls the insider political information that could sway markets, such as timing of investigations or bills against certain companies/industries > You people automatically assume that if a democrat isn’t in jail for a crime you accuse them of then that means that the system is corrupt so if Trump doesn't face any consequences for all the crimes he's accused of, I take it you won't consider the system corrupt or broken in any way?

Hilorenn

I bet one hundred bucks that news will come out about her husband. Possibly involving naked drug dealers in San Francisco. And a hammer. And her husband is also naked. And the police were involved.
