exposed yourself as a yank, bud. In the US, clubs are franchises. They are singular entities. In the UK (or almost literally anywhere else in the world), clubs are clubs. They are plural entities.
Example: 'The staff team is working hard' (US English) compared to 'The staff team are working hard' (UK English)
Nice squad player for Villa. I guess he will start a lot mid/late season when there's congested fixtures, injuries, and suspensions. Early season he probably plays cup games and warms the bench during champios league.
Villa bought one chelsea player, who happened to play in the champions league final and be in the champions league team of the season. Wouldn't exactly call that "buying chelseas u21s"
Barkley was excellent for Luton last season but that doesn't change the fact he has an awful lot to prove after his last stint at Villa.
Emery knows exactly what he wants for the profile of player in each role, so I'm more confident he'll be a success this time around.
As a Villa fan. I'm not "delighted" at all. We have a huge Brazilian shaped hole to fill and I don't think Barkley is the guy. He'll be a good depth piece, but I will be shocked if he is anywhere near our starting 11.
My guess is he wouldn’t have gone to Villa if not given the prospect of game time there, if u don’t sign another midfielder then he is luiz replacement?
Barkley's output for Luton last year in a deep role was extremely impressive, could be a very shrewd signing - statistically he was very similar to Luiz. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't add a direct Luiz replacement and use Barkley, Tielemans or McGinn in that role.
I get it, I just still can’t shake off the previous version of Barkley who was literally incapable of defending and very injury prone.
We’ve got 50+ games and many will be at a very high level. I would be comfortable with him as back up but as first choice? That’s a risk.

Really good signing. Really good player. A different player to douglas luis, but for me he is just as good.
Good player. Aston Villa will do good to make the champions league next year.
Excellent signing. He'll be squad depth and he'll be reliable when called on.
Would it really be the "Premier League" without him? Dude just doesn't go away... 😆
Very handy signing
Good buy, but he can't be a replacement for Douglas. They should dig deep in the market for that.
Hi My Name is Jamie Daniel Iam supporting aston villa and I am a big fan of ross barkley welcome to Aston villa
Why American grammar? Aston Villa *are* delighted
“Aston villa are delighted” is definitely incorrect grammar though

The Grammar Police **are** coming (ps. it isn't. It's British style vs. US style)
He's a great addition for squad depth of Villa. I think he's a good buy.
Maybe as a squad player.
They are all squad players you know 😂
Why?
Depth.
Aston Villa doing their business while everyone is still watching Euro and Copa America
Emery is not here to joke.
He’s a baller, I remember Arsenal vs Luton away he was destroying us that game. Still got some class in those feet
I know, the number of times he skilled up their players was insane. Went totally unnoticed though.
He's good, but Villa needs to spend more if they want to compete better in UCL.
As well as maatsen, illing jr, barenechea we have about 70 mil to spend
Yes absult

Congratulations Aston Villa 2024 Audi Cup pre-season champions
Great signing
When he’s good he is so, so good. Really hoping he does well just because he can be so much fun to watch.
I hope he settles down quickly.
Good move for zidane with a tan
How have they funded that though? Shady a f.
He was five million and the financial year just ended. Wtf is shady about it lol
Our financial year ended yesterday. We have another 365 days to ensure we are within PSR before the next deadline. Lots of trading in and out to do.
Just keep buying Chelsea’s under 21 and then they’ll do the same and your sorted

Embarrassing
I hope he does well, top professional
What a turn around for him
Ross "The Brazilian" Barkley. Back again.
Ross The Boss! Your preseason will be magnificent!!
Last time he came to Villa he was very good for about 10 games and just fell off a cliff. Really hoping he can keep his head right this time
Boss, do something boss
How much they pay for that SoaB
Seems to be undisclosed at the moment
Think it was reported at £ 5 million.
Deserves it. He's a top professional
Fly high in the champions league king!!
I hope they don't let him take a penalty.
Ross Barkley's resurgence continues.
Did they make sure this was alright with The Prem and Man United before they did it?
Jim sacked 5 people and killed a cat to approve.

They are in the champions league now, they need more depth
I think he'll get plenty of minutes but agree, we need a proper Luiz replacement or we will be leaving ourselves too short of quality in the middle.

I think we already have our replacement in Tielemans.
Good business
